#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 71 #Remembering Kishore Kumar on his birth anniversary#
——————————————

Today 4th August (2018) (4 August 1929 – 13 October 1987) is the 89th birth anniversary of the ‘Versatile Genius’ Kishore Kumar or Abhas Kumar Ganguly or as he always liked to introduce himself as – Kishore Kumar Khandwewaala. ( 🙂 I cannot forget Khandwa when I am writing about Kishore Kumar.)

I had already marked a song earlier to present on this occasion but could not finish the write-up as during past many days I had been facing a very hectic schedule on work front and also getting very less time in the evening even to browse the blog which otherwise is my daily routine activity in evening every day.

However, a little relaxation at work today gives me this opportunity to write this post. And I am writing it just eight hours before it will be 4th August there in India. And I sincerely hope that our ‘Editors’ get enough time to review it.

There were two posts on the blog recently reminding me of the song which I am going to present here today.

One was when Atul ji posted a ‘disco based song’ from the movie ‘Dil-E-Naadaan’ sung by Kishore Kumar for Rajesh Khanna, and another one was Peevesie’s Mom sharing a song from ‘Suraag-1980’, my memories of listening to today’s song got refreshed.

So, when I was finding myself unable to present a writeup on this occasion, this song comes to my rescue and here I am, presenting this song with a brief write up.

As some of our regulars may be remembering and I also have mentioned this in my earlier write-ups, I was totally taken up by Rajesh Khanna and his movies starting in early eighties and I was trying to look for his other earlier movies and songs more and more. And whenever I came across a Kishore Kumar song I was trying to find out if it was from a Kaka movie and for Kaka.

My Uncles and other relatives would often teasing me on Rajesh Khanna subject and that is why when I wanted to know about this today’s song they told me that it was from the movie Suraag. And since Kaka had a guest appearance in this movie I thought it was possible that this song was picturised on him.

However, it was not a Kaka Song but a nice hummable Kishore Kumar song which was then available in Disco Songs Compilation on cassettes. And it was not from the movie ‘Suraag’ too.

It took me a few years to find out that this song was from the movie ‘Patita-1980’. Finally, when we arrived in the ‘digital age’ of internet and YTthen I came to know that this song was lip synced and performed by Mithun Chakravarty on screen.

So today, on the birth anniversary of Kishore Kumar let us enjoy this song …

The movie ‘Patitaa-1980’ was passed by Censor Board on 11.11.1980. It was directed by I.V. Shashi for ‘Tristar Movies, Bombay’. It had Shoma Anand, Vikram, Raj Kiran, Mithun Chakravarty, Shammi, Ram Sethi, Raj Mehra, Mac Mohan, C.S. Dubey, Birbal, Baby Shalu, Master Rajesh, Viju Khote, Madhup Sharma, Ramesh Deo, Seema Deo, Bramha Bharadwaj, Jagdish Raj.

Sujit Kumar, Sulochana, Madan Puri, Padma Khanna, and Bhawana Bhatt make guest appearance in this movie.

‘Patitaa-1980’ had five songs written by Anand Bakshi and music composed by Bappi Lahiri. Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

As mentioned in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) the records of this movies included the ‘Instrumental Disco Music’ based on the tune of the today’s song – ‘dil dhak dhak karne lagaa’ thus making the total number of songs of this movie to Six.

I have not watched this movie and would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

The movie makes a debut on the blog with the today’s song and this also serves the one of my purpose of introducing movies having the same title. We on our blog have the famous oldie ‘Patita-1953’ already ‘Yippeeeed’. The second ‘Patitaa-1980’ makes a debut today. 🙂

Let us now enjoy this foot tapping song and remember our beloved Kishore Da today …
And just listen the freshness in his voice and how he sings this one for Mithun Chakravarty in a ‘mellowed’ tone but in a ‘disco mood’ …

Song-Dil dhhak dhhak karne laga (Patita)(1980) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Bappi Lahiri

Lyrics

Dhak dhak dhak dhak
Dhak dhak dhak dhak
Dhak dhak dhak dhak
Dhak dhak dhak dhak

Koi jaadoo oo

Kitni baazaaron mein
Tum jaise hain hazaaron
Wo hai ek hazaaron mein
Dekhi

Main aahen bharne lagaa
Ho o o o
Aisaa lagtaa hai
Main kisi pe marne lagaa
Aa aa aa aa aa
Dil dhak dhak karne lagaa
Main dil se darne lagaa aa

Sochaa thha kheloonga
Main ek khilaune se ae
Ab kaise rokoon dil ko
uspe aashiq hone se
Main to
dillagi mein ae
Dil ka saudaa
karne lagaa aa
Ho o o o
Aisaa lagtaa hai
main kisi pe marne lagaa
Aa aa aa aa aa
Dil dhak dhak karne lagaa
Main dil se darne lagaa
Aisaa lagtaa hai
main kisipe marne lagaa
Haa

“Prem Pratigya”(1989) was produced by B Lognathan and directed by Bapu. This movie had Mithun Chakraborty, Madhuri Dixit, Vinod Mehra, Deven Verma, Satish Kaushik, Aruna Irani, Ranjeet, Neelu Phule, Kamal Deep, Jamuna, Farida Dadi, Darshan, Manmouji, Subhash, Sayeeda Khan, Jahangir, Renu Joshi etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. Here is the first song from the movie to appear in the blog.

The song is a party song where the hero is suipposed to steal the show. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar. Indeewar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.

The lyrics are nice and the music is wonderful. This song had the potential to be as memorable as the Kishore Kumar songs of “Namak Halaal” and “Sharaabi” songs of same genre. But then those songs were picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and this song under discussion is lip synced by Mithun Chakraborty. Chalk and cheese ! People less discerning than me in such matters may disagree. Nevertheless, it is my opinion that the great singing by Kishore Kumar, assisted by great lyrics and music, got wasted in this case.

I am unable to identify the female dancer seen in the picturisation. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

With this song, “Prem Pratigya”(1989) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Sheeshe ki umar pyaale ki aakhir bisaat kya(Prem Pratigya)(1989) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Bappi Lahiri

Blog Day : 3620 Post No. : 14427

16th June is the birthday of the disco dancer who had to struggle a lot in his career initially. But then “sabr’ ka phal meetha hota hai” and his stars changed after the success of B. Subhash’s “Disco Dancer” in 1982.

We are today wishing Gourang Chakraborty a.k.a Mithun Chakravarty on his 68th birthday.

He was a graduate from FTII and was the national award winner for his debut movie “Mrigaya” (1976) which was a Mrinal Sen direction. Then followed a spate of successful and semi-successful movies “Suraksha”, “Wardat”, “Wanted”, “Pyar Jhukta Nahi”, “Prem Vivah” etc. The last 2 named showcased him in characters that were diametrically opposite to what he played in the action-packed “Suraksha”, “Wardat” (a sequel to Suraksha) & “Wanted”. All these movies made him dear to those producers who couldn’t afford big stars like Amitabh Bachchan etc., as most of his successful movies were low-budget films to start off but in raked in the moolah at the Box-Office and that is what matters in the final analysis. The success of “Disco Dancer” went on to endorse his style of acting and dancing and youngsters copy his style to this day. He must have done close to 100 movies in the 90s itself in spite of it being the period when the Khans were on their upward movement. The turn of the millennium saw him in supporting roles that were comic, villainous, benevolent etc.

Rohit Shetty’s “Golmaal 3” had him re-visiting his “Disco Dancer” where he danced the song that made him popular. It was re-recorded and reshot with a few changes- the original was a stage song; this one was in a discotheque. And after the song we have a typical Indian film scene where the heroines’ rich father asks him to forget the girl in exchange for money & the self-respecting (swabhimaani) hero refuses to take the money. All-in-all a hilarious tribute to everything that Bollywood and Indian movies showcase.

Todays’ song from “Disco Dancer” is sung by Vijay Benedict written by Anjaan and music is by Bappi Lahiri. Kamal and Suresh Bhatt were the choreographers for the movie. People say that this song changed Bappida’s fortunes. Also though there are many who will cry that this movie and its songs changed the face of Bollywood music. But I will not get into that debate here. Let us all just say Happy birthday Mithunda. 🙂

“Kaun Kaise”(1983) was produced by Raj Valia and directed by Anil Ganguly for R V Productions, Bombay. The movie, which was a suspense movie, had Mithun Chakraborthy, Ranjeeta Kaur, Deepak Parashar, Anita Raj, Deven Verma, Ardhendu Bose, Prem Krishan, Narendranath, Bharat Kapoor, Beena, Ritika Singh, Asha Sharma, Dinesh Hingoo, Shubha Khote, Janki Das, Rajrani Sethi, Jagdish Raj, Neelu Arora, Zunuvia, Taneja, Ashok Gupta, A.A.Deepak, Indrajit Mukarji, Ratnakar, Prema, Dinesh.P., Kumari, Diwakar, Raju, Mohamed, Mehboob, Arpana Chowdhry, Gita Siddharth etc in it.

“Kaun Kaise”(1983) had five songs in it.

Here is the first song from “Kaun Kaise”(1983) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar. Gulshan Bawra is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

The song is picturised as a disco dance song on Mithun Chakraborty who is seen mobbed by girls. Mithun Chakraborty was known for figuring in disco dance songs those days in every movie, even in movies where his roles called for more restrained behaviour, as in this movie. Here he plays a police inspector who is out to solve a murder mystery. But then Hindi movie heroes and heroines cannot help but break into a song and dance routine even if they are shown deaf and dumb -for instance Jayaprada in “Sargam”(1978). So Mithun da, a police inspector singing and dancing in a rather un police official like manner should not, and did not raise any eyebrows. 🙂

This movie had come about at a time when I had stopped following Hindi movies and I was neither aware of this movie nor its songs. The song itself is quite hummable. This song is not counted among the best known songs of those days, so it means that this song and the movie may not have done all that well.

With this song, “Kaun Kaise”(1983) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Main akela aur dilbar hain kayi (Kaun Kaise)(1983) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Gulshan Bawra, MD-R D Burman

This article is Peevesie’s mom’s 200th writeup in the blog

Hullo Atuldom

I had a message from Atulji after he posted my last contribution: “Your next write-up will be your 200th. So, make that a special write-up. 🙂 ”. And my reaction was “oh maa”. I didn’t realise I had done 200 posts. I knew I was within touching distance of the double century but not just one run away. But then here it is and I must thank Atulji for posting 99% of all that I have written and sent him since 2012.

Mere yaar ko mere allah de ek chaand sa pyaara lalla was my first post ever in any blog. I remember what I had sent him was one long unstructured post. Atulji was good enough to edit it to look readable. Plus the lyrics that I had sent had to be corrected for spellings etc. Before the song from “Dacait” I used to only send lyrics of those songs which I thought everyone will like and enjoy.

The first person to tell me “now that you have started writing please don’t stop” was my daughter, our Peevesie. I think I have kept my promise to her. My next post came around 15 days later for the birthdates of Amitabh and Rekha and since then whenever I think of a song I try to write something around that particular actor or actresses’ birthdays. That means I don’t write daily but about once in a week or 10 days.

My 100th post came up with this Sanjeev Kumar-Vidya Sinha song from “Hiraasat” and that first 100 took me a little more than three years. Now this next 100 posts have come in two years, so, just goes to show how much addiction I have developed in writing “for the blog”. And no, I have never tried to find rare songs only tried for different combinations. I also try my best to write and send a post for some dates in the calendar of this blog in addition to birthdates of Amitabh, Rekha, Kishore Kumar etc.

Now today is also a birthdate of an actress of the time when I was growing up. She was a style icon in her times. She proved that a girl clothed in western outfits was as much an Indian as a girl in a saree or salwar suit. She was unconventional in her style of dressing as well as the roles she chose. Consider this- you debut in a sister role to a hero and in your next movie with the same hero you try to woo him. Cut to two years later you again pair up with the actor and this time as his romantic co-star, this was something unheard of in an industry which said once a sister always a sister.

But without rebelling against the norms of the industry she gained a foothold in Bollywood and went on to be the favourite of the masses. B.R Chopra (whose anniversary was on 8th of this month) cast her in the role of a lady caught in a difficult marriage early on in her career and later he showed faith in her and this time cast her as rape- survivor who kills her tormentor when she finds that he has committed the same crime on her younger sister. Okay I agree my preamble is getting very confusing. I am talking of Zeenat Aman or Zeenie baby as her fans used to call her. The two B.R. Chopra films are “Dhundh” and “Insaaf Ka Tarazu”. The other movies that I referred to were- “Hare Rama Hare Krishna”, “Heera Panna” and “Ishk Ishk Ishk”- all with Dev Anand (she did about seven movies with Dev Anand.)

Zeenat Aman was liked by the audiences no matter whom she was paired with whether Amitabh, Vinod Khanna, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar etc. Oh yes, she had paired romantically with Sanjeev Kumar too. Remember “Manoranjan” “Takkar” etc. She was friendly with her female co-actors too as could be seen when she appeared in an episode of “Koffee with Karan” with Hema Malini. There have been movies where she has co-starred with Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi, Moushmi Chatterjee etc.

I am spoilt for choice as to which song to present today. I can choose from any of the movies I have mentioned or a song with any of the co-stars I have listed. I am choosing a song with the co-stars I listed, in fact a song which features three talented ladies- Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi and our dear birthday girl Zeenie. It is from the 1982 Umesh Mehra directed “Ashanti”. It had a huge star cast led by Rajesh Khanna and Mithun Chakravarty with the above-mentioned ladies and Amrish Puri. The music director was R.D. Burman and lyricist was Anand Bakshi. Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar. We have Mithun and Rajesh Khanna in disguise for that matter even the girls are dressed as Lavani dancers.

Happy Birthday Zeenat dear. Wish you all health and happiness today and forever.

Lyrics

suniye
main jis sheher mein jaati hooon
kehte hai sheher ke log
arey saare seher ko lag jaata hai
mere prem ka rog
kehta thha ye ek paagal thaane ka pahreder
ho o o o
arey tere aashiq bhare hain andar
paagal hain do chaar aar
hhaa aaa aa aa
o bach ke rahna
phir na kehna
laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
lagi toh mushkil hogi
ho laungi mirchi main kolhapur chi
lagi toh mushkil hogi
si si karte phiroge ji ji
si si karte phiroge ji ee ee
lagi toh mushkil hogi

laungi mirchi main kolhapur chi
lagi toh mushkil hogi
laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
lagi toh mushkil hogi
si si karte phiroge ji ji
si si karte phiroge ji ee ee
lag gayi toh mushkil hogi

ho laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
daajiba
lagi toh mushkil hogi
haan

aisi tikhat main aisi karaari
kuchh mat poochho baat
ik baabu ne pakad liya thha
ik din raste mein haath
aisi tikhat main aisi karaari
kuchh mat poochho baat
ik baabu ne pakad liya thha
ik din raste mein haath

bechaare ki chutti ho gayi ee ee ee hi hi
bechaare ki chutti ho gayi
aisa ho gaya haal
log uthha ke le gaye usko seedha haspataal
bachke rehna
phir na kahna

laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
daajiba
lagi toh mushkil hogi
laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
pahuna
lagi toh mushkil hogi
haan

bade badon ke chhakke chhoote
sun kar mera naam
aate jaate karte hain sab
door se mujhe salaam

bade badon ke chhakke chhoote
sunkar mera naam
aate jaate karte hain sab
door se mujhe salaam
ek gali ka ladka mujhse
ae ae ae ae he
ek gali ka ladka mujhse
kar baitha thha preet
aaj talak gaata phirta
galiyon mein yahi geet

o bach ke rahna
phir na kehna
ho laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
pahuna
lagi toh mushkil hogi
ho laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
dajiba
lagi toh mushkil hogi
haan

waise to main sharmeeli hoon
lekin mere hazoor
mirchi mirchi hoti hai
nahin hoti koi khajoor
bhool se ik deewaana mera aa aa ho
bhool se ik deewaana mera
dil baitha thha maang
wahin hai baithha
jahaan pe maine
todi uski taang

o bach ke rahna
phir na kahna
ho laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
pahuna
lagi toh mushkil hogi
laungi mirchi main kolhapur li
lagi toh mushkil hogi
si si karte phiroge ji ji
si si karte phiroge ji ee ee
lagi toh mushkil hogi
ho laungi mirchi main kolhapur ki
dajiba
lag gayi toh mushkil hogi
haan

“Mujhko mere baad zamaana dhoondhegaa”.
“Caravaan guzar gaya gubaar dekhte rahe”.
These were words that proved to be prophetic. In the monsoon of 1980 we had to bid good bye to The Mohd. Rafi.

It has been 35 years since Mohammad Rafi left this world. Unbelievable. Our statistics page says that there are around 4845 songs sung by him in Hindi films. (Wikipedia puts a figure of around 5000). And we are past 2400 (as per the latest updation). So we still have around 2400 songs to go. That means fodder for our blog for another few years I suppose. And all the fans of Rafisaab in our Atuldom can get to work to reach out to all his songs. It is actually not that difficult a job.

Most Rakhi songs in this blog are from the golden era of HFM, viz from 1950s to 1970s, though Rakhi songs from 1930s, 40s and 80s have also been discussed in the past.

Here is a Rakhi song from the 1990s. This picturisation is intesteting. It shows a Mithun da covered from head to toes in Rakhis arrive at his residence where his three sisters are waiting for him. The sisters cannot even identify him, before the small kid accompanying Mithun da explains that Mithun Da had saved several girls from the clutches of baddies and the grateful girls had tied him with rakhis all over his body, including face. 🙂
