#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Debutant Movie- Kismat/Qismat-1980)
——————————————-——————————

With this post we introduce the movie ‘Qismat-1980’ on the blog.

Movies with this title-Kismat or Qismat were made and released in the years ‘1943’, ‘1956’(Qismat), ‘1968’, ‘1980’(Qismat), ‘1995’(Qismat) and in the year ‘2004’.

(I hope all them brought good ‘fortunes’ to the ‘producers’ of the movies 🙂 ).

Out of these the movies released in ‘1943’, ‘1956’ and ‘1968’ have already been represented on the blog.

I was longing to present this movie on the blog as it serves the purpose of bringing ‘movies with the same title on the blog’ (at least till the decade of 1971-1980).

‘Qismat-1980’ was directed by Bhishm Kohli for ‘Pashupati Pictures, Bombay’.

It had Ranjeeta, Mithun Chakravarty, Shakti Kapoor, Shivangi Kolhapure (debutant movie), T.P. Jain, Urmila Bhatt, Dulari, Gautam Sarin, Tarun Ghosh, Vimal Chopra, Rajeev, Bholu Vadhawan, Gurbachan, Om Shivpuri, Baby Pinki, Master Bobby, Neelofar, Birbal, Rajat, Lateef and others.

Jalal Agha had a guest appearance in this movie.

This movie was a ‘social movie’, passed by Censor Board on 18.08.1980.

‘Qismat-1980’ has six songs written by Amit Khanna and composed by Bappi Lahiri. Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey, Yesudas, Kishore Kumar and T. Meena had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Here is the list of the songs in this movie with their respective singers.

SNo. Song Title Singer/s
01 O… kuchh chhup chhup ke aate hai Asha Bhonsle
02 Aa… arey masti… masti kahaan hai mastaana aa gaya hai Manna Dey
03 Ye zindagi chaman hai Yesudas, chorus
04 Gir ke sambhalte hain ham Kishore Kumar
05 Ik to main jawaan us pe tu yahaan Asha Bhonsle
06 Mehboob ki mehbooba ko lalkaaro nahin T. Meena

Today we present a song sung by Yesudas from this movie. I became aware of this song more than one decade later when I got to listen to it on radio.

I have not watched this movie ‘Qismat’ and also not aware of how it did fare at the box office then.

A partial video of the tsong is available where we can see Mithun Chakravarty lip-syncing this song and trying to console and motivate Ranjeeta on the screen.

Lyrics for the song are by Amit Khanna. Music is composed by Bappi Lahiri. This must be one of the best songs that Bappi Da has composed in the decade of 1971-1980.

Let us now listen to the song…

#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
————————————————————————

The song being presented in this post is from the ‘1983’ movie ‘Pasand Apni Apni’.

I have no recollection of having watched this movie anytime.

This movie had made its debut on the blog way back in ‘2012’ on 26.08.2012. So this movie has already completed its ‘ten-year’ run (and more than that) on the blog.

“Pasand Apni Apni” was directed by Basu Chatterjee for ‘Cine Eye’ Films. Basu Chatterjee also produced this movie and had written its screenplay and dialogues too.

The star cast of this movie included Mithoon Chakravarty, Rati Agnihotri, Utpal Dutt, Subiraj, Kumud Tripathi, Javed Khan, Manik Choudhury, Madhumita Das, Roopdarshini, Ranjana Sachdev, Manik Dutt, Subroto Mahapatra, Khoka Mukherjee, Reetu Saha, Meena Shrivastava, Gajendra, Dev Sharma, Azmat Khan, Sahgal, Kartik, Jemini Kumar, Sov Sen, Gautam Chakravarty, B.N. Bhattacharya, Bankey Vishwanath and Lakhan Singh.

This movie introduced Anjali Naidu and child artiste Atul Agnihotri.

Ashok Kumar, Jayshree T., Shibani, Dinesh Hingoo, and Asha Lata had a guest appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Teerth Chatterjee and Eric Martin. And editing of this movie was done by Kamal Saigal.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 07.10.1983.

This movie has six songs. Three songs each werewritten by Anjaan and Yogesh.

As mentioned above one song from this movie – arre wo dene waala –has been posted on the blog more than ten years ago.

Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is background song. It is poignant song which happens in the movie when the two lovers have developed misunderstandings I guess. Part of the song is picturised in ‘local train’ (Mumbai?).

We can see Rati Agnihotri, Mithun Chakravarty, Ashok Kumar, and others in the picturisation.

Lyrics for this song are by Anjaan and music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Lyrics of this song were sent by Prakashchandra.

Let us listen to the song which is a nice song. I don’t think I am familiar with the other songs of this movie so I would listen to them now. 🙂

#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
————————————————————————

During the months of November-December 2022, I had presented couple of ‘drunkard’ category or ‘drink driven’ category songs on the blog. The last one was posted on 03.12.2022. I think the blog is ‘overdue’ 🙂 for another such song.

So, here is a song from the movie ‘Ashaanti-1982’.

‘Ashaanti-1982’ was directed by Umesh Mehra for ‘Eagle Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Parvesh C. Mehra.

The movie had Rajesh Khanna, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi, Mithun Chakravarty, Kanwaljeet, Amrish Puri, Jeevan, Narendra Nath, Monty, Mac Mohan, Kishore Kapoor, Yusuf Khan, Ram Sethi, Nadira, Satyen Kappu, Bob Christo, Mohan Choti, Avtar Gill, Ajay Agrawal, Amir Jambra, Yusuf, Ganesh, and others.

Prem Kishan and Ramesh Deo make a special appearance in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 01.05.1982.

Here is a brief about this movie as mentioned by Peevesie’s Mom ji in her post while discussing a song from this movie.

“Ashanti” was one of the multi-starrers of that year. It had Rajesh Khanna heading a cast of Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Mithun Chakravarthy, Kanwaljeet, Amrish Puri, Satyen Kappu, Jeevan Ramesh Deo, Nadira, Pinchoo Kapoor, Narendranath, Monty Nath, and many more known faces that formed the supporting cast. It was an action film and was the story of an honest & dedicated police officer played by Rajesh Khanna who intercepts a bank robbery but is himself caught with the suitcase of stolen money, tried in the court and jailed. Further twists in the tale lead him to losing a leg too. On his release from prison he seeks out the wrong doers and for this he has help from the three heroines and Shankar Dada played by Mithun. If my memory is correct, one of the heroines is also the lost daughter of Amrish Puri who is the cause of all the troubles of the police officer. The movie comes to a close after a lot of drama and high voltage action.

This movie had five songs composed by R.D. Burman. Lyrics for all the five songs were penned by Anand Bakshi.

Following is the list of songs in this movie:-

S.No. Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01. Ru ru ru ru … Dil diya hai maine dil diya hai Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar 29.12.2022
02 Main hoon sharaabi, nahin ji nahin Shailendra Singh
03 Naa tujhse naa mujhse oye naa mujhse naa tujhse, hamse hai yah duniya Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Shailendra Singh 29.12.2021
04 Suniye main jis shahar mein jaati hoon… laungi mirchi main Kolhapurchi Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle 19.11.2017
05 Shakti de ma … o pag pag thokar khaaun chal naa paaun … Chandrashekhar Gadgil, chorus 29.12.2012

So far four songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. Today’s song is the fifth and final song from this movie.

This song is sung by Shailendra Singh. Mithun Chakravarty performs on this song. The picturisation shows Mithun at a ‘sharaab thheka’ with Mohan Choti with him. Also seen in the picturisation is Parveen Babi who seems to be on some ‘sceret agenda’out to take advantage of Mithun’s intoxicated condition. 🙂

With this song all songs of ‘Ashanti-1982’ get covered on the blog and this movie joins the ‘list of movies-all songs covered’.

Let us say ‘Y i P p Ee eE’ to ‘Ashanti’ as the movie ends its journey on the blog on a “high” with this ‘drunkard’ song. 🙂

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

(#Music Composer-Singer-Bappi Lahiri#10)

Today 27th November’2022 is the seventieth birth anniversary of Composer Singer Bappi Lahiri (27.11.1952-15.02.2022). He passed away this year on 15th February leaving behind the legacy of his ‘disco’ music and many other memorable songs in Hindi Film Music.

He made his debut as a singer in a Bengali movie ‘Daadu’ in 1972 and if we considered this first assignment of him in Bangla movie ‘Daadu’ which came to him in 1969 (as told to Anupama Chopra in an interview). He has many records on his name and he has been conferred by many many awards time to time.
The first Hindi movie as a music composer was ‘Nanhaa Shikaari’ which came to him in 1971 and this movie was released in 1973.

I had mentioned in my earlier post on the blog that the song ‘Bambai se aaya mera dost’ from ‘Aap Ki Khaatir-1977’ was my first introduction with Bappi Lahiri. This song was very popular then and was played frequently on radio and loud speakers or in orchestras.

After that I remember it was the songs of ‘Pyaara Dushman-1980’, ‘Armaan-1981’, ‘Waardaat-1981’, ‘Namak Halaal-1982’ etc. I liked the songs from ‘Armaan’, ‘Waardaat’, though I never had watched these movies until now. But these songs had become very popular then. I also liked the songs of ‘Disco Dancer-1982’ very much, and I specially remember them because in that summer vacation of 1983 after appearing the 10th board exams our group of friends would be listening to the songs of ‘Disco Dancer’ and ‘Nikaah-1983’ on cassette player.

Later on after getting connected with this blog and in the recent years I have come across many of his songs before the ‘disco era’ which in those years I was not aware that they were composed by him, but I liked them and have also shared few of them on the blog.

Still there are many of his songs which I get to listen on radio during my daily listening. There are many such songs which I had been listening and liking without knowing that they have been composed by Bappi Lahiri. I am trying to share them on the blog as possible.

Today I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Suraksha-1979’. Music for this movie was composed by Bappi Lahiri. I vaguely remember the posters mentioning ‘Gunmaster G-9’ of this movie in those years. I have yet to watch this movie.
This movie is going to make its debut on the blog today.

In the year ‘1979’ the following nine movies where Bappi Lahiri had composed the music were released.

Sno Name of the Film(Year) Date of Censor Board Certificate Lyricist/s
1 Aangan Ki Kali(1979) 15.05.1979 Shaily Shailendra
2 Ahsaas(1979) 23.10.1979 Indeevar, Ravindra Peepat
3 Aur Kaun?(1979) 05.01.1979 Amit Khanna
4 Do Hawaldaar(1979) 06.01.1979 Shaily Shailendra
5 Iqraar(1979) 10.09.1979 Kulwant Jani
6 Jaan E Bahaar(1979) 10.08.1979 Gauhar Kanpuri
7 Lahu Ke Do Rang(1979) 11.09.1979 Farooq Qaiser
8 Shikshaa(1979) 28.12.1978 Gauhar Kanpuri
9 Surakshaa(1979) 01.06.1979 Ramesh Pant, Farooq Qaiser

“Surakshaa-1979” was directed by Ravikant Nagaich for ‘Gopi Enterprises, Madras’.

It had Ranjeeta, Mithoon Chakravarty, Jeevan, Jagdeep, Aruna Irani, Prema Narayan, Mala Jaggi, Suresh Oberoi and others.

Tej Saproo and Balaji were introduced on the screen with this movie.

This movie has five songs released with seven sound tracks including one dialogue and one music sound track.

Ramesh Pant wrote four songs and Farooq Qaiser had written one song for this movie.

Today’s song is written by Farooq Qaiser. Singer of the song is Bappi Da himself with Annette and chorus.

This song is played while the titles of the movie are rolling. On screen we can see Mithoon Chakravarty lip-syncing the songs with beautiful girls around him.
This song is heard more nowadays in the musical reality shows where ever there are special episodes on Bappi Lahiri and Mithoon Chakravarty is special judge on the shows. He is a regular feature as ‘special jury’ at many such musical reality shows.

I don’t remember to have listened to this song frequently during those years when the movie was released. However this movie is said to be one of the successful movies of Mithoon Chakravarty then.

Let us now listen to today’s song and pay our tributes to Bappi Lahiri.

(Note – the second stanza mentioned below is not on the audio of this song it is played in the movie though.).

(#Music Composer-Singer-Bappi Lahiri#8 – The magic of Bappi Da & Kishore Kumar)

Regulars on the blog must be remembering that I had presented some Bappi Lahiri songs on the blog.

As I said earlier I am not a big Bappi Da fan but I do like many of his compositions. There was a time which I would like to mention as ‘Justice Chaudhary-Mawaali times’ when I was irritated of the songs composed by Bappi Lahiri and didn’t like them. Even today I didn’t like many of his compositions of those years.

But then there are some Bappi Lahiri songs which I liked and was aware of them since before, and some of the songs are those which I like and I was listening to them since years, but I was not aware that they were composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Today’s song is one such song which I recently get to listen on Radio (Vividh Bharati). And I was not aware that this was composed by Bappi Lahiri.

I like this song and thought that it must have been posted on the blog earlier. But that is not the case. This song is yet to be covered on the blog. I remember olistening to this song before and I think it was quite liked by the public too. May be the movie, the song is from, didn’t do well so this song was also forgotten easily.

This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and that makes it more special and enjoyable and that is another reason that I like this song very much.

The song is from the movie ‘Tai Chor -1980’.

‘Taxi Chor-1980’ was directed by Sushil Vyas for ‘L.D. Enterprises, Bombay’.

It was produced by Lachhman H. Tulsiani, Prakash Bathija and Dilip J. Pariyani.

It had Zarina Wahab, Mithoon Chakravarty, Madan Puri, Abhi Bhattachaya, Bharat Bhushan, Chandrashekhar, Sajjan, Sulochana, Poornima, Indira Bansal, Bhagwan, Rajendra Nath, Dhoomal, Polson, Prem Sagar, Raj Mehra, Murad, Shaikh, Mohammad Ali, Jagdeep, Keshto Mukherjee, Jayshree T., Padma Khanna, Mukri ( in special appearance) and others.

The movie also had the new discovery Anita Sarin and Brajesh.

It also had child artists Baby Lata Malik, Kiran Seth, Sagar Brothers, and Naseer.

Story of this movie ‘Taxi Chor-1980’ was written by Dilip J. Pariyani.
Screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by Vishwanath Pande. Editing of this movie was done by Baburao Barodekar.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 18.08.1980.

Anjaan was the lyricist for this movie who had written all the four songs in this movie.
Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Usha Mangeshkar, Shailendra Singh, Suresh Wadkar and Anwar had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

As mentioned above music for this film was composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and on screen it is lip-synced by Mithoon Chakaravarty. From the picturisation of this song it is clear the song happens in a stage show. We can also see Zarina Wahab, Jagdeep and many other female artists in the picturisation. I could not identify the other female artist in this song. (we can also see another Mithoon Chakravarty coming to watch this show 🙂 which means this movie could be having a double role of Mithoon Chakravarty. I have yet to watch this movie).

Let us now enjoy today’s song …

Hullo Atuldom

A special birthday. A landmark birthday. Don’t know what it is called in other parts of the country or world; but I know it as ‘Saptadi‘ meaning 70th birthday. And this post is to wish the concerned celebrity-entertainer who is an all rounder as far as emoting is concerned. He can be a repentant son (as in ‘Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni’ (1989)), cute and lovable father (as in ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai’ (2000)), mean police officer (remember Inspector Laxman Bhide of ‘Insaaf’ (1987)) and the most lovable characters of Nandu to Raja Babu & Crime-Master Go-Go. These are just a few of the varied roles he has enacted in his 47 years in the film industry. I am sure the readers would have guessed that today is the 70th birth date of Shakti Kapoor.

Shakti Kapoor (birth name Sunil Sikanderlal Kapoor) is married to Shivangi Kolhapure which makes him jija of Padmini Kolhapure and Tejaswini (both are actors). He is father to Shraddha Kapoor (she made her Bollywood debut in 2010) and Siddhanth Kapoor (he debuted in 2013 as an actor prior to which he was assistant to director Priyadarshan). As we can see Shakti Kapoor has passed on his passion of acting to his children too. He is an actor who is fairly good at dancing. He made a great team with Kader Khan and Asrani in the films of the 80s and 90s. For the amount of time that he has been in the public sphere there will be many of his roles, scenes, even songs filmed on him that trigger memories.

Today’s song is one such song-dance sequence which I have dug out from memory. It is from the 1987 film ‘Dance Dance’, produced and directed by B Subhash. It hads Shakti Kapoor playing friend and troupe member with upcoming singers/siblings that Mithun and Smita Patil played. He falls in love with the sister (Smita Patil) and also marries her.

The plot has Resham (Shatki Kapoor) going a little wayward after the marriage viz. having extra-marital affairs, ill-treating the pregnant wife etc. Smita Patil dies and towards the climax, Resham reforms and saves Mithun from being shot by Amrish Puri & dies.

‘Dance Dance’ had songs that were essentially dance numbers (what else, the title is a giveaway) written by Anjaan and composed by Bappi Lahiri who was also the playback singer along with Vijay Benedict and Alisha Chinai. The blog already has the song “Everybody Dance With Pa Pa Pa” from this film.

With this song we also remember Lalji Pandey who passed away this date in 1997. He started his journey in Bollywood in 1953, wrote a lot of good songs through the 60s till the 90s. Many of the songs he wrote are still popular viz. “Bina Badraa Ke Bijuriya Kaise Chamke“; “Aapke Haseen Rukh Pe Aaj Naya Noor Hai“; “Aap Ki Inaayaten Aapke Karam“; “Luk Chhip Luk Chhip Jaao Na“; “Jis Ka Koi Nahin Uska To Khuda Hai Yaaro“. If I mention “Jis Ka Mujhe Tha Intezaar” and “Khaike Paan Banaras Waala” the readers will realize that Lalji Pandey is famous as Anjaan.

He was a lyricist who worked with composers from Datta Dawjekar to OP Nayyar, RD Burman, Laxmi-Pyare, Anu Malik, Chitragupta, and all music directors of his time

Wishing Crime-Master Go-Go a very Happy Birthday and thank you Anjaan ji for this song.

Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) -5 (1985)
——————————————————————

In today’s post we move on to Pancham’s music in 1985.

Pancham Da continued to give his best in this year too like the previous years. He composed music for eighteen movies in 1985, one more than the tally of seventeen in 1984.

His music of 1985 was a mix of some excellent, very good and good music. Songs of ‘Alag-Alag’, ‘Saagar’, ‘Arjun’, ‘Savere Waali Gaadi’, ‘Zabardast’, ‘Laava’, ‘Sitamgar’, ‘Raahi Badal Gaye’ (ik baat dil mein aayi hain) were quite popular and frequently heard.

The list of eighteen movies where Pancham composed music in 1985 is given below.

For today’s presentation we have a song from the movie ‘Aar Paar-1985’. This movie will make its debut on the blog today. This was one of the reasons to select a song from this movie. The other reason being that the song is sung by R.D. Burman himself. Another reason is that this song is a lesser-heard song as well. But if one listens to this song a few times it grows upon you. It is a very nice hummable philosophical song.

Today (4 january 2022) happens to be the twenty-eighth ‘Remembrance Day’ (27 June 1939 – 4 January 1994) of our beloved Pancham Da. It has been twenty-eight years since he left us forever. But the music that he created will remain with us forever as long as HFM is around.

This is the fifth song in this series. I had kept this song up my sleeve for this day after drafting it more than one month back.

The song being posted today is our tribute to ‘Pancham Da’ and his ‘music’ in HFM.

The song is from the movie ‘Aar-Paar’(1985). ‘Aar-Paar'(1985) was directed by Shakti Samanta for his home productions ‘Shakti Films, Bombay’. Shakti Samanta was also the producer of this movie. It was an Indo-Bangladesh Co-Production. And Syed Hasan Imam (of Chitrangan-Dhaka) was the Co-Producer of this movie from Bangladesh.

‘Aar-Paar'(1985) had Mithun Chakravarty, Rosina, Nutan, Asit Sen, Utpal Dutt, Manik Dutt, Tarun Ghose, Ghulam Mustafa, Hasan Imam, A.T.M. Shamsuz Zaman, Ahmed Sharif, Ghulam Rafique, Madhu, Shekhar, Amal Bose, Kali Pada Sen, Bullet, Qutub, Mohammad Ali, Chunnu, Minhaz, Barua, Nurul Islam, Sumita Devi, Shahre Banu, Maya Ghose, Reena, Papiya and others.

Story of this movie was written by Shakti Pada Rajguru. Screenplay of this movie was jointly written by Shakti Samanta and Shanu Bannerjee.

Dialogues of this movie were written by Pradeep Roy Chowdhury. Bijoy Chowdhury was the editor of this movie.

This movie had six songs written by Anand Bakshi and composed by R.D. Burman. kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Shailendra Singh, Sabeena, Yasmin and R.D. Burman had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 19.11.1985.

Let us now listen to today’s song which is played in the background while we can see some policemen taking Mithun Chakravarty with them while some villagers (including friends of Mithun Chakravarty in the movie) are seen watching them.

As mentioned above today’s song is sung by R.D. Burman. lyrics are by Anand Bakshi. Music is composed by R.D. Burman.

(This post also serves of bringing movies with same title on the blog. With this song Aar-Paar(1985) joins the well-known movie ‘Aar Paar-(1954) in the blog.

Hullo Atuldom

Time for a yearly roundup!!!! 2021 coming to a close. 2022 just a sunrise away. Hope we have different experiences in 2022, experiences that make us glad and bring a smile to our lips which stays the whole year.

I am sure Atulji or Sudhirji or one of the other blog-contributors, who have the patience to go through the statistics etc., will give us a table of how many new movies debuted on the blog in 2021, and other related info about which date saw how many posts etc. But the best that happened this year, IMO, is the series that Atulji undertook to enlist all the movies, music directors etc that Lata Mangeshkar was associated with in her looonnngg career.

On the way out of 2021 here is a song from the 1993 release “Shatranj”. A movie that I saw at the time of its release on cable TV, before the Satellite TV Tsunami hit us. It was produced by Arun S. Thakur, directed by Aziz Sejawal, had music by Anand Milind, and Sameer was the lyricist. S P Balasubramaniam, Abhijeet, Udit Narayan, Jolly Mukherjee, Kumar Sanu, Sudesh Bhonsle, Jayshree (popular as Bombay Jayshri in classical music circles), Poornima, Sadhana Sargam (i.e. all the good singers of the 90s) were used in the movie.

Kadar Khan was the dialogue writer of the movie which begins like “Chalti ka Naam Gaadi” (CKNG) which means we have three brothers -bachelors- who are reared by the eldest brother Dharamraj (Kadar Khan), the other two brothers being Dino and Dinky (Jackie and Mithun). The eldest brother has a problem with the female gender of the populace (like Ashok Kumar in CKNG), the other two don’t have any such issues and Renu & Radha (Divya Bharaati and Juhi Chawla) are their girl friends. Then there is a female called Rosie (Jamuna who appeared in a few films in the 80s and 90s, not much is known about her) who is shown to like the elder brother Dharamraj since childhood (Sarfaraz Khan, Kadar Khan’s own son played the younger Dharamraj). The reason for Dharamraj’s problem with females is shown as his step-mother who was nasty to him and his brothers as children.

The story has the necessary villain in the character of Prajapati (Kiran Kumar) the manager to the brothers’ father’s (Vikas Anand) business and also his killer. He is cheating the brothers’s step-mother and step-brother (Shakti Kapoor) and using their business as a front for his illegal activities (what else). The brothers have some misunderstandings with Dharamraj when Renu & Radha enter their lives, which get resolved; then the hard-feelings towards the step-family also is sorted out and the cause of all the problems in their lives (Prajapati) is brought to his logical end. And then “The End”.

Oh I forgot to mention a few more tributes that the movie paid to CKNG. CKNG had ‘Mohan Garage’ here the brothers have ‘Dharam Garage’. There was a ‘car’ in CKNG even this movie had a ‘car’ important to the story. CKNG begins with a song on the pet car, this one too begins with a song on the car. Additionally the brothers have a pet Monkey/ Chimpanzee. So let us have the movie debuting on the blog with the film-opening song that shows us the bonding between the brothers. This song is in the voices of SPB, Abhijeet and Udit Narayan.

There used to be a show called ‘Superhit Muqabla’ on Doordarshan Metro of those years (28 years back) which was on the lines of the legendary Binaca Geetmala. The show used to retire songs from the list of popular songs, which were complied based on vinyl records and cassette sales & and viewership of the show as such, after a 25 week run to make place for newer songs, very much like Binaca Geetmala. And songs of “Shatranj” (1993) were on this show for many weeks.

With this song we also say thank you to the entertainer Kadar Khan who left us today, in 2018, in Canada, where he was staying with his sons following his retirement from Bollywood. His last release was ‘Hogaya Dimaagh ka Dahi” in 2015 October (after a gap of seven years when ‘Mehbooba’ and ‘Deshdrohi’ released). He was a recipient of three Filmfare awards viz:

Best Dialogue for “Meri Awaz Suno” in 1982.

Best Comedian for “Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri” in 1991.

Best Dialogue (again) for “Angaar” in 1993.

He was conferred the Padma Shri, posthumously in 2019 by the Government of India.

He was 81 when he passed away.

Hullo Atuldom

Today’s post takes one more movie to YYIIPPEEEEHood.

“Khwaab” (1980) was a crime, court room drama genre movie with some romance and great songs thrown in for making it a complete entertainer. It had a cast of Ranjeeta, Yogita Bali, Mithun Chakraborty, Naseeruddin Shah, with Ashok Kumar, Madan Puri, Utpal Dutt leding the supporting cast which also had Chaman Puri, Birbal, Jagdish Raj, Sujit Kumar, Yunuz Parvez, Dinesh Thakur etc. It was directed by Shakti Samanta, had dialogues by Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza, songs were written and composed by Raindra Jain. Hemlata, Yesudas, Suresh Wadkar, Jaspal Singh and Mohd. Rafi were the playback singers.
The movie had four songs three of which are on the blog as follows:

Song Date of posting Remarks
Tu hi wo haseen hai 31 july 2015
Ek aas luye vishwaas liye 20 July 2020
Ham khwaab ko badal denge haqeeqat mein 22 September 2020 a very good post by Nahmji where she spoke about the usage of the English alphabet ‘K’ in Indian languages

Today’s song is an ‘outdoors song’ possibly inspired by the “jootaa hai japani” song from “Shri 420” (1955). We see Mithun walking, singing and dancing his way to Bombay (as it used to be called back then) and Raj Kapoor’s potli on a stick is replaced by a suitcase. On the way he sees Ranjeeta zipping past in an open Red car complete with sunglasses and Red Hat etc. These aspects -the open car had to be Red and two seater; the driver dressed smartly and slightly haughty- were mandatory to establish character-traits. And by the time the song comes to a close Mithun sees that Ranjeeta’s car has stalled- another mandatory. 🙂 The singer is K J Yesudas.

We are having this song to Wish Mithunda a very Happy birthday- may the song and dance and entertainment continue forever.
