(Khayyam Saab’s Sixth ‘Remembrance Day’ 19th August’2024)
Today 19th of August’2024 is the fifth ‘Remembrance anniversary’ of legendary music director Mohammed Zahur “Khayyam” Hashmi Saab. He was born on 18th February 1927 and passed away on 19th August’2019.
As a tribute to him today, we are covering songs composed by him today on this blog. So far four songs have been discussed today.
For this post I was looking for a ‘debutant movie’ where by Khayyam Saab was the music director. Here is a song from the movie ‘Devar Bhaabhi-1986’ which is making its debut on the blog today.
“Devar Bhaabhi-1986” was directed by Dev Kumar for ‘Goodluck Films, Bombay’. (I am not aware if this Dev Kumar is the same we know i.e. actor Dev Kumar). The producer of this movie was Mrs. Namrata Devi. This movie has in its cast Arun Govil, Shoma Anand, Prema Narayan, Pradeep Kumar, Dev Kumar, Rakesh Pandey, Satyen Kappu, Jalal Agha, Urmila Bhatt, Shekhar Purohit, Leela Mishra, Bhagwan, Sudhir Dalvi, Raju Desai, Ranveer Raj, Sayeed Allahabadi, Kamaldeep, K.N. Singh, Gulshan Bawra, Asha Chandra, T.P. Jain, Agha, Birbal, Bhatia, Advocate R.P. Sethi, Ram Swaroop, Krishna Desai and others.
“Devar Bhaabhi-1986” has four songs. Three are written by Naqsh Lyallpuri and one by Falak Dehalvi. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, and Mahendra Kapoor are the playback singers for this movie. Music is composed by Khayyam Saab.
Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mahendra Kapoor. Lyrics are by Naqsh Lyallpuri. Only the audio of this song is available. I had never heard about this movie. The only place where it is mentioned is in the book on ‘Khayyam- The Man – His Music’.
The song being discussed is a lesser heard or never-heard category of song. This movie seems to be an obscure movie of its time as I could not find video of the movie or its songs on internet. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.
