(Khayyam Saab’s Sixth ‘Remembrance Day’ 19th August’2024)
Today 19th of August’2024 is the fifth ‘Remembrance anniversary’ of legendary music director Mohammed Zahur “Khayyam” Hashmi Saab, whom we fondly know as Khayyam Saab. He was born on 18th February 1927 in a village Rahon in the District of Jalandhar- Punjab, and passed away in Mumbai on 19.08.2019.
As a tribute to the great composer we will be posting songs composed by him on this blog today. In this post I am presenting a song composed by Khayyam Saab for the film ‘Tere Shahar Mein-1986’. It was directed by Sagar Sarhadi for ‘Mahesheka Films Pvt Ltd., Bombay’. S.S. Broca was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie had Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Dipti Naval, Marc Zuber and others.
This movie has four songs composed by Khayyam Saab. Naqsh Lyallpuri penned two songs, Bashar Nawaz and Amir Minai penned one song each.

I guess that this movie was not released at all. Very less information is available about the movie. Video of the songs are not available. The ‘Hindi Filmography -1986-2000’ mentions only the names of the Producer, Director, and Music Director for this movie title. But luckily audio of the songs from this movie is available. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.
The singers who lend their voices to the songs in this movie are Lata Mangeshkar, Jagjit Kaur, Bhupinder Singh and Asha Bhonsle. One song sung by Bhupinder Singh has already been posted on the blog. Today’s song is the second song from this movie to appear. It is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Lyrics are by Naqsh Lyallpuri.
