#The Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
————————————————————
(Khayyam Saab’s Sixth ‘Remembrance Day’ 19th August’2024)
‘Sawaal’ 1982 was produced by Yash Chopra under his own banner of ‘Yash Raj films’. It was directed by Ramesh Talwar. Music of this film was by Khayyam Saab and the lyrics were penned by Majrooh Saab. It had an impressive star cast including Waheeda Rehman, Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Poonam Dhillon, Prem Chopra, Helen, Padma Khanna , Kalpana Iyer, Jagdish Raj, Yunus Parvez, Mac Mohan, Gautam Sarin, Vikas Anand, Harjeet, Ranveer Raj, Avtar Gill, Anjan Shrivastava and others.
Manmohan Krishan and Madan Puri had a guest appearance in this movie whereas Randhir Kapoor & Swaroop Sampat had a special appearance in this movie.
This film had as many as seven songs (including one two part song). The singers for this movie are Lata Mangeshkar, Nitin Mukesh, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Dilraj Kaur, Anwar and Pamela Chopra. Out of these songs, one song sung by Anwar & Lata Mangeshkar is not included in the film. It is this duet song excluded from the movie that we are going to listen to today.
Here is a brief about this movie that I had mentioned while presenting the first song from this movie on this blog almost ten years ago. 🙂
Dhanpat Rai Mehta (Sanjeev Kumar) is a smuggler and his wife Anju (Waheeda Rehman) is aware of this but his children Vikram (Randhir Kapoor) and Sonia (Poonam Dhillon) are not aware of this fact. Ravi Malhotra (Shashi Kapoor) is an honest Police Officer who has vowed to destroy the smugglers and wipe out this social menace. He falls in love with none other than Sonia (Poonam Dhillon). Very soon Inspector Ravi gets to know about the real face of Dhanpat Rai Mehta. Meanwhile aware of Ravi’s intentions Dhanpat Rai also tries to clear him out but fails and the truth is out. Meanwhile before the real confrontation can happen, Vikram gets killed in Police-raids on their go-downs which he visits on a call from Yunus (Yunus Parvez) that the Police have raided the godown. Now Yunus communicated the message without knowing who had actually lifted the phone, since everyone is busy for Vikram’s engagement party (engagement with Reshmi (Swaroop Sampat)). Shattered after his son’s death Dhanpat Rai decides to surrender to Police, but Shamsher Singh (Prem Chopra) who is also his partner gets to know about it and kidnaps Dhanpat Rai’s wife and daughter. Dhanpat Rai now decides to tackle with Shamsher Singh one to one, while Inspector Ravi also reaches for the climax. Both of them fight to save the mother and daughter in which Dhanpat Rai gets killed while he saves the life of Inspector Ravi. Shamsher Singh is arrested by the police.
Today on the occasion of the sixth ‘Remembrance Day’ of composer Khayyam (18.02.1927 – 19.08.2019), I am presenting the second song from this movie ‘Sawaal-1982’. As mentioned above this song was not included in the movie, hence only audio of this song is available. Lyrics are by Majrooh and music is composed by Khayyam.
Music lovers are well aware of the music created by Khayyam Saab. His music carries his distinct mark and style. Today’s composition is one such composition in which the music takes one to a different world together -The ‘musical-world’ of Khayyam Saab.
Enjoy!!!

Thanks for your comments Sir jee. It’s my pleasure that you liked this presentation.
I had mentioned the following while presenting the first song from this movie on the blog.
“After Silsila – 1981 I think Yash Chopra had taken a short-break from Direction and his next directorial venture was Mashaal – 1984. In between there were two films under Yash Raj Films banner ‘Nakhuda’ in 1981 and ‘Sawaal’ in 1982. Music for both of these films was composed by Khayyam Saab.”
So, two movies came from Yash Raj Films which were directed by other directors i.e. Ramesh Talwar for ‘Sawaal’ and Dilip Naik for ‘Nakhuda’.
