In this post I am presenting a ‘Qawwalee song’ from the movie ‘Truck Driver-1970’. This movie was directed by Dharam Kumar for ‘Bharat Chitra, Bombay’. The cast of this movie included Dev Kumar, Indrani Mukherjee, Surekha, Rohit Kumar, Helen, Mohan Choti, Jayshree T., Sushma, Ram Mohan, S.K. Prem, Shery and others.
Here is a brief about this movie which is mentioned by our in-house encyclopedia Shri Arunkumar jee, while commenting on the first song from this movie on the blog.
TRUCK DRIVER (1970), a ‘Bharat Chitra darshan film directed by Dharam Kumar (Capt. Sheroo, Chalen Hain Sasural, Road No.303, Rustom Kaun etc), Music by Sonik Omi and lyrics by, Nash Lyallpuri, Verma Malik, Indeevar, Amar Chaturvedi and Jan Nisar Akhtar.
Cast was, Dev Kumar, Indrani Mukherjee, Jayshree T., Rohit Kumar, Mohan Choti etc.
The story was, Balwant (DK), a truck Driver marries Sharabati, after saving her from rape. Balwant’s sister Vidya gives tuition to the son and daughter of his Sethji. There Seth ji’s son Vinod falls in love with poor Vidya. Balwant gets some papers to prove that the Sethji is smuggler and anti-national element. Balwant is murdered while trying to expose Sethji, but Vinod finally exposes his own father and marries Vidya.
It was very funny to see the 6’2″ tall Dev kumar wooing 5’2″ Indrani Mukherji. The people in the theatre used to laugh loudly.

This movie ‘Truck Drive-1970’ has six songs which were composed by music duo Sonik-Omi. As many as five lyricists contributed to writing lyrics for the songs in this movie which are Verma Malik, Naqsh Lyallpuri, Amar Chaturvedi, and Indeevar who all wrote one song each for this movie and Jaan Nisar Akhtar who wrote two songs for this movie.
Today’s song is a ‘Qawwalee song’ as mentioned above. Verma Malik is the lyricist of this song. Only audio of this song is available which is in two parts.
All the links of this song ‘indexed’ the part-1 as part-2 and part-2 as part-1 which is clear to once we listen to both the songs. Also HFGK Vol-IV mentions the title of this song as ‘tu to hai musaafir safar teraa kaam ha, jahaan teree subah waheen teree shaam hai…’.
Singers for the song are Jaani Babu Qawwal and Mahendra Kapoor with chorus accompanying them. Music is composed by Sonik-Omi.
I guess that this movie was an obscure movie of its time and it is not available (as of now) on internet. Knowledgeable readers who have watched this movie can throw more light on this movie and its songs.
I would also like to mention what Atul ji has said about the songs of this movie in his post of the first song of this movie on the blog.
What kinds of songs does one expect in a movie titled “Truck Driver” ? From the title, one would expect the movie to be a B grade movie and the songs to be of chaalu variety.
One can have this feeling while listening to the ‘second part’ of this song though its’ first part has nice meaningful & philosophical lyrics. 🙂 In the second part the lyricist have given a ‘free hand’ to the feelings of the ‘truck drivers’ 🙂 and again taking them back to ‘what their life is’ … aage badhh jaanaa zindagee ka usool hai… rahaa jo bhee peechhe wo hi raahon ki dhool hai …
