This post is the 18500th song post for the blog.

Blog Day : |
5901 | Post No. : | 18500 |
Regulars who notice the day and post number of our posts may have noticed that today is day number 5901 for the blog. It means yesterday the blog completed 5900 day of its existence.
Regulars who noticed yesterday’s day number may have also noticed that yesterday’s post number was 18497. In the past, when I pursued “records” more keenly, I would have posted the century post 18500 on the blog day 5900. But with time, you stop giving too much importance to these landmarks.
When I think about it, I have stopped taking interest in maiden centuries of artists. There are several artists who are in their eightees and ninetees. Then there are some who complete their century and I fail to notice that.
As is the case with me for several years now, I start worrying about the century song only at the eleventh hour. This time the eleventh hour had arrived, suitably opportunity (5900th day) had also presented itself, but I, like Indian cricketers of the past, failed to grab the opportunity. 🙂 I thought that posting four posts in one day was too much of a hassle.
Today, on the 5901th day of the blog, I have published the two guest posts that I received yesterday evening, and so the post count is on 18499. It means I need to exert only slightly to take the blog to its next century !
With so many special songs being covered on the past blog century occasions (there have been 184 such occasions in the past), the number of special songs suitable for the occasion and still available for publication could well have been shrinking.
On this occasion, I was seeking to find a song that was rare enough and at the same time that would cheer the listeners the very first time they listen to it. First I came up with a cheerful song from 1969, but its picturisation made it a let down. So I looked for another song. This time I found a song older by two decades and in this case only audio was available, so there was no question of being able to watch its video and feeling let down, if so was the case. 🙂
The song is from a very obscure movie called “Dhoom Dhaam”(1949). HFGK mentions that the movie was a stunt movie which was directed by Rajaram for Shama Productions, Bombay. The movie had Agha, Baburao, Leela Kumari, Urvashi, Girdhari, Vasantrao etc in it. Apart from Agha, most names are unfamiliar to me.
“Dhoom Dhaam”(1949) had eight obscure songs in it. K Dewan and Aziz Kashmiri are listed as the two lyricists. I wonder if K Dewan is same as Karan Dewan. Several online sites, that easily fall for same name confusion, have indeed mentioned the lyricist as Karan Dewan. The uploader had played safe and mentioned the lyricist as K Dewan. HFGK has not mentioned the name of the lyricist for this song.
HFGK mentins the singers as Bano and Shanti. Uploader is more specific and metions the singers as Hamida Bano and Shanti Sharma. The song also has chorus in it.
Music is composed by Sufi Samaj. This name will stump everyone. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this music director whose name sounds like a community rather than an individual.
Though the movie and its songs are obscure, we have already covered two songs from the movie in the past.
Here is this third song from “Dhoom Dhaam”(1949) to appear in the blog. This song is a lively wedding song that is typically sung by the sahelis of the dulhan on her wedding. It is not a ron dhona kind of bidaai song (which is also one kind of wedding song) but a song with positive vibes. I loved the song the very first time I got to listen to it.
As mentioned earlier, only audio of this song is available. In absense of the video, we can only guess how and on whom the song may have been picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of the song.
While at it, I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us who this K Dewan is who penned the lyrics of this song and who (or what) was Sufi Samaj, the music director.
With this song, the blog reaches at the landmark of Song post number 18500. We are 500 songs adrift from 19000 mark after which the mindblowing figure of 20k would appear on the horizon. Our journey may be slow, but it is steady and we will hopefully keep touching new landmarks and we will keep discovering as yet undiscovered music gems from the past. The song under discussion is certainly one such forgotten musical gem from 75 years ago. Let us savour this wonderful song that is the song for song post number 18500 of the blog.
With this landmark achieved, the bandwagon now moves on towards newer destinations as it has been doing for the past 16 years and more. I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their continued and continous support, encouragement and contributions in various forms that is serving as the fuel for this musical bandwagon.
