Blog Day : 3611 Post No. : 14401

It appears that Mohan Pictures, Bombay were on a spree to make movies begging with the word “Jaadui”. They had released three such movies in 1948 which went under titles like “Jaadui Shehnaai”, Jaadui Angoothhi”and “Jaadui Sindoor”. They were followed by “Jaadui Chitra” and “Jaadui Bansari”.

Advertisement given in magazines those days suggest that these movies were smashing the box office. 🙂 When I search for the songs of these movies, I find that not a single song from these “Jaadui ..” movies is showcased in the blog. In other words, the songs of these movies failed to make it big and they are not available all that easily.

“Jaadui Angoothhi”(1948) was directed by A M Khan. The movie had Husn Ara, Anil Kumar, Devraj, Kesari etc in it. This movie , a “musical thriller”, had 10 songs in it.

Here is the first song from “Jaadui Angoothhi”(1948) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Hamida Bano and A R Qureshi. Roopbani is the lyricist. Music is composed by A R Qureshi, who was none other than the famous tabla player All Rakkha Qureshi, father of another Tabla wizard Zakir Hussain.

Here is this lovely romantic song from “Jaadui Angoothhi”(1948). Only the audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of the song.

With this song, “Jaadui Angoothhi”(1948) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Hamaari gali aaya na karo (Jaadui Angoothhi)(1948) Singers-Hamida Bano, A R Qureshi, Lyrics-Roopbani, MD-A R Qureshi

Lyrics

Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo
baaman ke chhore
na gore na kaale
najariya na hamse ladaaya karo
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo

khidki mein aa kar chunariya hilaa kar
khidki mein aa kar chunariya hilaa kar
ishaaron se hamko bulaaya na karo
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo

chalte ho jab tum seena nikaale
chalte ho jab tum seena nikaale
dil mera kehta hai usko bulaa le
dil mera kehta hai usko bulaa le
aankhon se jaadoo chalaaya na karo
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo

chalti hai jab tum ghoonghat nikaale
chalti hai jab tum ghoonghat nikaale
uspe hain man mein laakhon uchhaale
maathe pe bindiya lagaaya na karo
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo

baaman ke chhore
na gore na kaale
najariya na hamse ladaaya karo
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo o o
Hamaari gali aaya na karo

“Rajputaani”(1946) was directed by Aspi for Ranjeet Movietone, Bombay. This “historical” movie had Veena, Jairaj, Bipin Gupta, Ghulam Mohammad, Altaf Hussain, Azeem, Baby Mumtaz, Noorie, Usha Devi etc in it.

The movie had nine songs in it. Two songs from the movie have been covered in the past.

Here is the third song from “Rajputaani”(1946) to appear in the blog. this song is sung by Hamida Bano. Pt Indra Chandra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Bulo C Rani.

Hamida Bano had lent her voice in five out of nine songs. That plus the words of this and other songs sung by her makes me guess that she had sung for the leading lady playing the title role, which had to be Veena. So my guess is that this song was picturised on Veena.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

morey hirday ki phulwaari mein chitchor boley ho

Today’s song is from film ‘Anban’ (1944) (pronounced as un-bun). So far, only one song from this film has been discussed on our blog in 2011. This is, therefore, the second song from this film. No songs of this film are available anywhere like You Tube etc. Then, how did I get introduced to  this song ? There is a story behind this.

PARAAYI AAG (1948) was produced under the banner of Great India Pictures and was directed by Najam Naqvi. The star cast included Munawwar Sultana, Ulhas, Mumtaz (Madhubala), Sheri, A Shah, W M Khan, Jilloo Bai etc. The story of the film revolves around the mistaken identities of the two prospective brides and bridegrooms. Sometimes, things can’t get more rare than this. As we look for rare combination of artists, and especially singers, we come across combinations where two artists have worked together in a song, once or maybe twice in the entire history of Indian cinema. This song today, is one such song. It is a duet, rather I should correct myself, it is a trio of singers. There are two female voices, and one male voice. The male voice is not identified, even in the Geet Kosh listings. The female voices are Shamshad Begum and Hamida Bano. And the year is 1948.
