Hullo Atuldom

“Jaaneman” (1976) was a film produced by Navketan Films -meaning Dev Anand was the producer with his brother Chetan Anand as director. The songs were composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal & written by Anand Bakshi. The playback singers used for the songs were Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Anand Kumar C, Vinod Sharma, Hemlata, Mukesh & Mohd Rafi.

The film had 8 or 9 songs with the title song being a multi-version song appearing three times in the movie. ‘Aayegi aayegi aayegi kisiko humar yaad aayegi’ was also a multi version song in the voices of Anuradha Paudwal & Lata Mangeshkar.

The following songs, from the film are on the blog:-

As can be seen from above the last song from this film came in 2022 when the Navarati celebrations had begun. This year Sharad Navartri begins next week.

“Jaaneman” had Dev Anand & Hema Malini playing the lead with Premnath, Ajit, Durga Khote, Iftikhar, Gautam Sarin, Sudhir, Jankidas, Bharat Kapoor, Jagdish Raj etc in the supporting cast.

Hema Malini played a double role of sisters Santo & Banto. Santo comes to Mumbai in search of her sister Banto who had come to the city to be a tutor but has ended up as Ramkali a nautch girl. Dev Anand (as taxi driver Ronnie) tries to help Santo, gives her a place in his house till his mother (Durga Khote) returns from pilgrimage (like he had looked after Kalpana Kartik in ‘Taxi Driver’ in 1954).

Santo also falls in love with Ronnie (natural for an Indian movie). Banto (as Ramkali) is eventually tracked down with the help of Ronnie’s fellow taxi drivers one of whom (Premnath) is her fan. There is a smuggling angle in the story involving Ramkali & Gulbahar Singh (Ajit) as also a love triangle with Banto also falling for Ronnie. The film comes to a close with Banto (Ramkali) taking her revenge from Gulbahar Singh, Ronnie helping the police in busting the criminal gang, Banto dying but after the sisters unite & Santo marrying Ronnie with his mother’s approval.

This was a film that Chetan Anand directed for Navketan after 20 years, and was made in the 25th year of the production company. That year the brothers collaborated in ‘Sahib Bahadur’ too. The film was an adaptation of the 1954 Navketan Film “Taxi Driver”. An interesting trivia that I found on the internet was that Kalpana Kartik (heroine of ‘Taxi Driver’ Dev Anand’s wife) was the associate producer for this film.

26th September is the birth date of Dev Anand, he would have turned 101. Remembering him with this duet in the voices of Kishore Kumar & Lata Mangeshkar.

There are 66 songs of Dev Anand that Kishore Kumar has given playback for on the blog, the Last of which was with a down-memory-lane post by Atulji.

I have nothing additional to write about the stylish, super energetic Dev Anand that his fans don’t know of. And if I go to include a list of all of the Dev Anand songs that I like to hear then the post will get too long. So, lets get straight to this song which opens with the Punjabi words- ‘Ki gal hai?’.

Song-Kee gal hai koi naheen (Jaaneman)(1976) Singers-Kishore Kumar, Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

maine kya ji
oy kee gal hai
koyi naheen ji koyi naheen

kee gal hai
koyi naheen
aji kee gal hai
koyi naheen
kee gal hai
koyi naheen
aji kee gal hai
koyi naheen

teree aankhon se lagta hai ke tu kal raat ko soyi naheen
kee gal hai
koyi naheen
aji kee gal hai
koyi naheen
neend hai kya hai kaun si cheez
jo maine tere pyaar mein khoyi naheen

kee gal hai
koyi naheen
aji kee gal hai
koyi naheen

gal da matlab baat
ho o gal da matlab baat
vich na baat naheen koyi aisi
dil ki aag bujhaaye jo barsaat naheen koyi aisi
jee bhar ke ham milen hon jab
mulaaqaat naheen koyi aisi
jab main saari raat na jaagi
raat naheen koi aisi
arre ye to meri himmat hai
haan
ye to meri himmat hai main tadpi jaagi oy royi naheen

kee gal hai
koyi naheen
aji kee gal hai
koyi naheen
kee gal hai
koyi naheen
aji kee gal hai
koyi naheen

ik ham aaj akele
ik ham aaj akele
us pe mausam ye mastaana
jaag uthha hai dil mein shaayad
dard koyi puraana
tu jo kuchh bhi aaj kahegi
hoga ek bahaana
main tujhko chhedoonga varna chhod de ye sharmaana
dekhne-sunane waala haan
dekhne-sunane waala dooja
aur yahaan par koyi nahin
oy kee gal hai
koyi naheen
ae kee gal hai
koi naheen
teri aankhon se lagta hai
ke tu kal raat ko soyi naheen
neend hai kya hai kaun si cheez
jo maine tere pyaar mein khoyi naheen

kee gal hai
koyi naheen
aji ho kee gal hai
koyi naheen
hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm
