Hullo Atuldom
“Sirf Tum”- 1999 released; was a pure, soft romantic film. It was different from regular love stories. It had Sanjay Kapoor playing Deepak Rai & Priya Gill played Aarti. They never meet each other in person till the last scene. They get to know of each other through a strange incident. Deepak finds a bag/ envelope containing a girl’s certificates, bio-data etc. He finds the girl’s address and sends it by speed-post to her. Aarti is relieved on getting her documents & she sends him a “thank you” letter. This starts a chain of letters between the two. Deepak is employed in a firm that is headed by Neha (Sushmita Sen). She is impressed by Deepak and his straight-forwardness. She reveals her feelings for Deepak – to him. But he tells her that he is in love with a girl called Aarti whom he has never met. It is a story of “love that starts from the heart & not from the eye”.
Mohnish Behl, Jackie Shroff, Tej Sapru, Shagufta Ali, Jaya Bhattacharya, were in important supporting roles. Kadar Khan, Johnny Lever, Shobha Khote were in guest appearances & Salman Khan had a special appearance.
“Sirf Tum ” was a remake of the Tamil film “Kadhal Kottai”. The film was directed by Agathian ( a new name for Bollywood but well-known in Tamil films). It was produced by Boney Kapoor. It had music by Nadeem Shravan & Sameer was the lyricist. Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal, Jaspinder Narula, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Gurdas Maan and Farid & Ameen Sabri were the playback singers used. The movie had nine songs with the Title song appearing a few times in the film.
In the song with this post, we have Sushmita Sen expressing her love for Deepak before she actually reveals it to him. I mean she is fantasizing that she is singing it to him. She looks very pretty, lovely, beautiful or any adjective that her fans may choose to describe her. Small wonder that she was a Miss India who went on to win the Miss Universe crown too. She was only 19 then. She made her Hindi Film debut through Mahesh Bhatt’s “Dastak” in 1996. She may not have been a great dancer like some of the actresses of her time but she definitely knew how to be in sync & rhythm. Some of her dance numbers were very popular like today’s song, the ones in ‘Fiza’ and ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’. She was comfortable in comic scenes too. She has the distinction of being the adoptive mother to two daughters.
