Hullo Atuldom

A few months back our in-house encyclopedia a.k.a Shri. Arunkumar Deshmukhji had given us a post. This post gave us information about the various actors, down the years, who were connected to successful artists of the film industry but who’s career could not proceed beyond their first few films. That list included Raj Kapoor’s son Rajeev Kapoor, Premnath’s brothers etc. I can add numerous names of the current generation, who had successful first films & medium-success in their next few films but could not produce hit films later in their career- IMO the biggest example being Kumar Gaurav (no hard feelings, I was mighty impressed by him in “Love Story” so many years back.

I know people love to add Abhishek Bachchan, Tusshar Kapoor, Esha Deol, Twinkle & Rinkie Khanna, and a few more to the list of One-film wonders. But that is not actually correct. Abhishek Bachchan made his debut in 2000 & his work has been appreciated even in his not-so-successful films & he is getting good work even now.

Tusshar Kapoor had a successful debut film “Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai” with Kareena Kapoor & Rinki Khanna as his co-actors. Post that he was seen in films like “Shootout at Wadala”, “Shootout at Lokhandwala”, “The Dirty Picture “, “Shor in the City” and some more such not-so-conventionally themed films. He was appreciated as the “mute” Lucky in Rohit Shetty’s “Golmaal” series. He has been seen in many multi-hero films.

I can write about many kids of the film world who are “short of success” inspite of being good actors, with good starts. In comparison with the careers of the so-called outsiders like say- Shahrukh Khan or Akshay Kumar- there are many children of the industry who are not ruling the marquee & people accuse the film industry being a bed of Nepotism. If we look closely at other industries, there too we will find parents trying to guide their children on the paths they themselves have walked; why? Because it is easy to give guidance as and when the children need them. Is there any harm in this thinking I don’t know, but from personal experience I know it makes things easier for parents to understand the problems if they are in the same fields.

But enough of such heavy talks.

Since I spoke of Tusshar Kapoor above let us have a song featuring him. It is from the 2002 released “Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa”. It had a very interesting cast. Rajesh Khanna & Smita Jaykar play parents of Rahul (Tusshar Kapoor) who is in love with Esha Kapoor (Esha Deol) who is the daughter of Raj Babbar & Nina Kulkarni. Shammi aunty played Esha’s granny. Ashok Saraf, Atul Parchure, Dilip Joshi, Razzak Khan played important characters.

Any guesses why I found the casting interesting? It had Rajesh Khanna – a childhood friend of Jeetendra in real life- playing Tusshar’s reel-life father. Then there was Esha Deol- another star kid whose parents have a standing in the film industry & a connect with Jeetendra. Tusshar Kapoor was born in 1976 & Esha in 1981, so they have grown up knowing the ways of the entertainment world.

As I was writing this post, I realized that both the star kids -Esha Deol & Tusshar Kapoor- are November kids. Esha had her birthday on 2nd November & today (20th November) is Tusshar’s birthday. Another reason that makes this a special song.

A word about Atul Parchure (who played Tusshar’s friend in this film) is due. He was born on 30th November in Mumbai in 1966. He was seen in many Hindi & Marathi films in predominantly comic roles. He was also active on the stage and seen in some television serials & ads too. He received Best Actor and Best Comedy Character Awards in Zee Marathi Utsav Natyancha Awards 2019 due to his serials “Bhaago Mohan Pyaare” & “Jaago Mohan Pyaare”. The entertainment world lost this actor to Liver cancer on 14th October 2024. He was only 57.

“Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa” was a film directed by Sanjay Chhel & produced by Sanjay Chhel along with G. Adiseshagiri Rao. It was a remake of the Telugu blockbuster film “Swayamvaram” (1999). The music was by Himesh Reshmmiya & Sanjay Chhel (himself) was the lyricist. Shaan, Sanjeevani Bhelande, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Kavitha Krishnamoorthy & Jaspinder Narula were the voices behind the 7 songs.

Here is wishing Tusshar Kapoor on turning a year older. He turned a producer in 2020 with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Laxmii’ & is single parent to Laksshya Kapoor – a child that he had through IVF & surrogacy in 2016.
(Extremely) Belated birthday wishes to Esha Deol too.

This song was very popular in party circles in that period and the two kids dance well in Tandem.

Song-Nikamma Kiya Is Dil Ne(Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa)(2002) Singers-Jaspinder Narula, Shaan, Sanjivani, Lyrics-Sanjay Chhail, MD-Himesh Reshammiyaa

Lyrics

is dil ne kiya hai nikamma
oh yeah

yaadon mein khoya rehta hai
vaadon mein dooba rehta hai
mushkilen paida karta hai
bada badnaam karta hai
nikamma kiya is dil ne
is dil ne kiya hai nikamma
nikamma kiya is dil ne
is dil ne kiya hai nikamma
aashiqui chaahta hai
zindagee ujaadta hai
ho aashiqui chaahta hai
zindagee ujaadta hai
roke ruke naa kabhee ye
kisee ki kahaan maanta hai
maanta hai
manata hai
o o
nikamma kiya is dil ne
is dil ne kiya hai nikamma

o o o
o o o
o o o
o o o

dhadkanen
kartee hain kaisa halla
kya kahen
tumse ham khullam khulla
dooriyaan nazdeekiyaan bhi gum ho jaatee hain
sab kuchh mitaata hai
nikamma kiya is dil ne
is dil ne kiya hai nikamma
aashiqui chaahaa hai
zindagi ujaadta hai
o
aashiqui chaahta hai
zindagee ujaadta hai
roke ruke naa kabhee ye
kisi ki kahaan maanta hai
maanta hai
maanta hai
o o
nikamma kiya is dil ne
is dil ne kiya hai nikamma

??
forget it

khaam kha
aankh mein aansoo laaye
aur kabhee
chaahaten bhi barsaaye
jeene ko haraam karke
marna sikhaata hai ye
kayaamat laata hai
nikamma kiya is dil ne
is dil ne kiya hai nikamma
aashiqui chaahta hai
zindagee ujaadta hai
o aashiqui chaahta hai
zindagee ujaadta hai
roke ruke naa kabhee ye
kisee ki kahaan aan maanta hai
maanta hai
maanta hai
o o nikamma kiya is dil ne
is dil ne kiya hai nikamma
I love your touch
I love your voice
I love your style
I love your heart

o o o o o
o o o o o
o o o o o
