Today 27th November’2024 is the seventy-second birth anniversary of Composer Singer Bappi Lahiri (27.11.1952-15.02.2022). Bappi Da as he was fondly called has been known for the legacy of his disco music that he brought to the Hindi Films. But apart from disco based songs there are many other memorable songs in Hindi Film Music which were composed by Bappi Lahiri.
Bappi Lahiri made his debut as a singer in a Bengali movie ‘Daadu’ in 1972. The first Hindi movie he composed music was ‘Nanhaa Shikaari’ which was released in ‘1973’. For me the song ‘Bambai se aayaa meraa dost’ from ‘Aap Ki Khaatir-1977’ was my first introduction to Bappi Lahiri. This song was very popular then and was played frequently on radio and loudspeakers or in orchestras during my growing years.
Thereafter I remember it was the songs ‘Pyaaraa Dushman-1980’, ‘Armaan-1981’, ‘Waardaat-1981’, ‘Namak Halaal-1982’ etc. wherein I liked some songs from these movies. Songs from these movies had become very popular then. I also liked the songs of ‘Disco Dancer-1982’ very much, and I specially remember them because in that summer vacation of 1983 after appearing the 10th board exams our group of friends would be listening to the songs of ‘Disco Dancer’ and ‘Nikaah-1983’ on cassette player. And then gradually there were songs from ‘Himmatwaalaa-1983’ and many other movies where music was being composed by Bappi Lahiri in the decade of eighties.
After getting connected with this blog and in the recent years I have come across many of his songs before the ‘disco era’ or songs before ‘Himmatwaalaa-1983’ and after ‘Himmatwaalaa’, which I had not listened to earlier and have come across them in recent years.
Today I am presenting one such song which I was not aware till couple of weeks back and just come across it recently. The today’s composition seems to be a lesser heard or rarely heard composition, but I find it very nice and specially for the ‘fast’ music and beats by Bappi Da, this song needs to be listened to more.
This song is from the movie “Jeet Hamaari”. I guess that it is a forgotten movie and maybe it lost in the spate of other well-known and successful movies of that year ‘1983’. Let us have a look at the list of movies from the year ‘1983’ where music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.

From the above list one can see that the music for movies like ‘Himmatwaalaa’, ‘Jaani Dost’, ‘Naukar Biwee Kaa’, ‘Wanted’, ‘Justice Chaudhary’ and ‘Mawaali’ was likened more by people that time. Though I personally do not like the songs of ‘Mawaali’ and ‘Justice Chaudhary’.
“Jeet Hamaari-1983” was directed by R. Thyagarajan for Devar Films, Madras. It was produced by C. Dhandayuthapani. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 30.05.1983. It has Rakesh Roshan, Rajinikanth, Ranjeeta, Anita Raj, Om Shivpuri, Madan Puri, Shakti Kapoor, Satyen Kappu, Jagdish Raj, Aruna Irani, Padma Chavan, Silk Smitha, Vijay Kumar, Gur Bachan, Ram Krishnan, Jestin, Rudhramurthy, Jaggu, Rajkumar, Pitchai, Gemini Balu, Sundar, Kannan, Narayanan, Badrinath, Richard, Munny, Suryakala, Athilakshami and others.
The story and screenplay for this movie is by ‘Devar Films-Story Department’, and dialogues are written by Ram Govind while editing of this movie is done by M.G. Balurao. The lyricists for the songs in this movie are Indeevar and Maya Govind.
And the list of playback singers for this movie includes Kishore Kumar, K.J. Yesudas, S.P. Balasubramaniyam, Asha Bhonsle and S. Janaki.
I have yet to watch this movie ‘Jeet Hamaari’, so can’t say much about its’ storyline or the situation of the today’s song. However, watching the video of this song gives us the impression that the story of this movie has some ‘twist’ 😊in it.
Let us now enjoy today’s song picturized on Ranjeeta. We can also see Jagdish Raj, Rajinikanth, Rakesh Roshan and one lady actress (whom I am unable to identify) in the picturisation. This song reminds me of some familiar tune, maybe by Bappi Da himself, but I am unable to identify that song 😊 ). Lyrics for the song are by Indeevar and singer is Asha Bhonsle.
