#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 168 # Missing Films of 1972 – 20#
——————————————

Today, I bring on blog the last of 1972 films that were not yet available on the blog. Yes, some films are still missing, as is detailed later below, but for those films, the songs and other information is not available so far.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Zameen Aasmaan’ (1972). This movie is the 129th film of 1972, taken in alphabetical order, as per the Geet Kosh. There are a total of 131 movies listed for 1972. There are two more movies after this one. At 130 is the movie ‘Zaroorat’. This movie has no songs. And the last movie alphabetically in this list is ‘Zindagi Zindagi’ which had already been Yippeee’d on the blog.

Movies with the same title ‘Zameen Aasmaan’, were also released in 1946 and in 1984. Both these movies have been represented on the blog with their songs. I guess that the today’s movie was a forgotten movie even though its music was composed by Kishore Kumar and its’ having a decent star-cast too.

‘Zameen Aasmaan’ was directed by A Veerappan for AV Films. Eesmayeel Shroff was the Chief Assistant Director. Veerappan was also the producer of this movie. He also wrote the story and the screenplay. He developed the story based on the Malayalam play and film – ‘Kadal Paalam’ by KT Mohammed. Dialogues were written by Rajinder Singh Atish. Editing of this movie was done by R Bhaskar. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 10.07.1972.

The star cast of the movie is listed as Ashok Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Rekha, Yogeeta Bali, Ramesh Deo, Indrani Mukherjee, Achala Sachdev, Dulari, Ashim Kumar, OP Sharma, SK Sharma, Kiron, Sushil Kumar, Master Tarun Kumar Gupta, Baby Charulata, Gemini Balu, Sharad  Kumar, and others.

This movie has six songs written by two songwriters – Indeevar (five songs) and Anand Bakshi (one song). Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Asha Bhonsle were the playback singers for the songs. Music was composed by Kishore Kumar. Basu Chakraborty was the assistant music director. Here is the list of songs in this movie as provided in HFGK – Vol-V (1971-1980).

With this post today, ‘Zameen Aasmaan’ of 1972 makes its debut on the blog.

Let us review the list of movies of 1972 alphabetically after adding today’s movie which is the 129th film in the alphabetical list of films of 1972, as per Geet Kosh. For brevity the list given below includes the list of movies missing on the blog and list of all movies from the last post “Hai Jo Teri Tamanna Hai Wohi Meri Tamanna” from movie ‘Ustaad Mera Naam’ (which is the 125th in list) to today’s movie song-post.

*Notes:

  1. Songs for ‘Bachche Mere Saathi’, ‘Gunfighter Johnny’, ‘Hunterwaali’, ‘Lady James Bond’, ‘Miss Chaalbaaz’ (Tingoo Agent 000) and ‘Rajdhani Express’ seem to be unavailable as of now.
  2. There is no information about the songs in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) for the movies – ‘Aakraant’, ‘Bharat Darshan’, ‘Fighter Sheela’, ‘Jaadu Nagari’ and ‘Maaya Darpan’ as mentioned above.

So, with the addition of today’s movie, we have added all the ‘so far’ missing movies (of which the songs are available) from the year 1972 on the blog. This year i.e. 2022, we are celebrating the fifty years of 1972 movies. We have brought on and discussed at a glance 20 movies that were missing from our blog, and for which songs are available. Also, the 21st such movie of 1972 viz., ‘Kavi Sammelan’ is being discussed as a separate series, bringing in all the available ‘poetry based’ songs of that movie.

Today’s song is a special song as this song is sung by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar under the baton of Kishore Kumar – the music director. I think this is the only song she sung under the baton of Kishore Kumar (hope I am correct). The song is lip-synced on screen by Yogeeta Bali. (Other than Yogeeta Bali we can see a dog and a horse in the picturisation of this song). Lyrics are by Indeevar and music is composed by Kishore Kumar.

I would request knowledgeable readers to kindly throw light on this movie and its songs.

Let us now listen to the today’s song, and welcome ‘Zameen Aasmaan-1972’ on the blog.

Song – Na Ro Ae Mere Dil Yahaan (Zameen Aasmaan) (1972) Singer – Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics – Indeevar, MD – Kishore Kumar

Lyrics

na ro ae mere dil yahaan

na ro ae mere dil yahaan
tera nahin ye jahaan
fursat kise hai ae
samjhe jo koi
tere aansuon ki zubaan
na ro ae mere dil yahaan
tera nahin ye jahaan
fursat kise hai
samjhe jo koi
tere aansuon ki zubaan
na ro ae mere dil yahaan

deewaani duniya rishte dilon ke
daulat se kyon jodti hai
deewaani duniya rishte dilon ke
daulat se kyon jodti hai
samaajon ke jhoothe rivaazon ki khaatir
apnon ke dil todti hai
koi nahin saath dega aa
sab to hai parchhaiaan
aa aa koi nahin saath dega aa
sab to hai parchhaiaan
aisa gar hai jahaan
to jeene ke qaabil kahaan
fursat kise hai ae
samjhe jo koi
tere aansuon ki zubaan
na ro ae mere dil yahaan

aise jahaan mein rahe koi kaise
lage pyaar par jis mein pehre
aise jahaan mein rahe koi kaise
lage pyaar par jis mein pehre
gila auron se kya lagaaye hain dil par
apnon hi ne ghaav gehre
kho ja andheron mein aise ae ae
jaise gagan mein dhuaan
aa aa aa kho jaa andheron mein aise
jaise gagan mein dhuaan
zaroorat hai teri kisey
mita de tu apna nishaan
fursat kise hai ae
samjhe jo koi
tere aansuon ki zubaan

na ro ae mere dil yahaan
na ro ae mere dil yahaan
tera nahin ye jahaan
fursat kise hai ae ae
samjhe jo koi
tere aansuon ki zubaan
tere aansuon ki zubaan

Hullo Atuldom

‘Adhikaar’ meaning ‘Rights’ is a title that has been used four times by Bollywood. This information I gathered from the blog’s ‘List of songs- Moviewise’ tab. Of the four films titled ‘Adhikaar’ the ones released in 1938, 1954, and 1971 have already made their debut on the blog; in fact the ones released in 1954 and 1971 have been Yippeee’d too. The 1938 ‘Adhikaar’ has four out of seven songs on the blog. Today’s post sees ‘Adhikar’ (1986) make is debut on the blog. The song with this post is the one that plays as the movie’s titles play on-screen and we can see this ‘Adhikar’ is an ‘a’ short.

“Adhikar” (1986) was a movie that I recall having seen in a cinema theater. It had the standard, run-of-the-mill story, popular in that period.

A rich girl loves and marries a not so rich man. Her parents initially agree to the wedding but cracks begin to appear in the marriage when the girls’ parents start interfering in the couple’s daily life.

This is the two-line synopsis of movies like ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahi’ (1985), ‘Pyar Ke Kaabil’ (1987) etc.

The common element between ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahin’ (PJN), ‘Pyar Ke Kaabil’ (PKK) and ‘Adhikar’ is Bindu- she played the heroine’s interfering mother in all the three films. PJN had Padmini Kolhapure play a simple girl born to rich parents, and PKK had her (Padmini) play a lady working in her mother’s business venture. ‘Adhikar’ was slightly hat ke in the sense that Tina Munim played a simple girl born to an ambitious mother who wants her to be a singer and become rich & famous. So that should give a brief idea about what the movie was about.

‘Adhikar’ had Tina Munim and Rajesh Khanna play the parents to a sweet boy credited as Master Lucky on some sites (even in the titles of the film) and Baby Bulbul on others. Zarina Wahab, Bindu, Danny, Raza Murad, Murad, Sulochana, Yunus Parvez etc. form the supporting cast. Tanuja is there in a special appearance. Bappi Lahiri is the music director and Indeevar is the lyricist. Lata Mangeshkar, Chandrani Mukherjee, Anupama Deshpande, Uttara Kelkar, Kavita Krishnamoorthy and Kishore Kumar are the playback singers used in the movie. The movie is directed by Vijay Sadanah and produced by Jawaharlal Bafna and Vasant Doshi. It is the last movie that Rajesh Khanna and Tina Munim came together for and then the hit pairing came to an end.

The song with this post plays at the start, establishing Rajesh Khanna’s (Vishal’s) single parent status. The song shows Lucky developing interests in horses etc. Oh, I forgot to add that Rajesh Khanna plays a retired jockey. The sad version, in Kavitha Krishnamurthy’s voice, occurs at the end, when the child sings it to try and revive an unconscious Vishal. Vishal has had an hemorrhage after winning his last race as a jockey, and the doctor has given little hope of his survival. But Vishal survives and the film has a happy ending with the misunderstandings between the couple clearing up.

This song showcases Rajesh Khanna at his emotional best. His charming smile, that reaches his eyes and the mustachioed look, at the start of the song is what I liked about Rajesh Khanna – remember the look he sported at the start of ‘Dushman’ (1971). He was the heart throb of a whole generation of movie goers in the early 70s and he had ardent followers who were loyal to him forever – whatsay Avinash ji, Raja ji, and others!!!! We were upset when Amitabh Bachchan dislodged him but there were people, like yours truly, who loved to see ‘Anand’, ‘Namak Haraam’ as much for Kaka as for Amitabh Bachchan. I loved AB Sr. in ‘Inquilaab’ as much as Kaka in ‘Aaj Ka MLA Ram Avatar”. I am sure there were fans who didn’t know who to choose as favorite. The careers ran parallel for some time. But then all these have been written a number of times and will be written forever till the 70s generation decides who they loved more —- that means forever I suppose.

Thinking of Kaka a.k.a Rajesh Khanna on his birth anniversary. He would have gone a year closer to 80.

Five songs (out of 9) have been covered in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie to appear in the blog.

This song is sung by Lata. Indeevar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Mukrsh.

Only the audio of the song is available. It is clear that the song was picturised on the leading lady viz Usha Kiran.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Will this song, Indeevar, almost unnoticeably, has reached 300 songs in the blog as a lyricist.

4281 Post No. : 15526 Movie Count :

If there was a category like ‘post inspired by fellow Atulite’ or ‘post inspired by Atulite WA group chat’, this post would have been included under that category. This past Sunday there was a discussion between me and Peevesie’s Mom ji regarding the theme of the ‘Rangoli’ this week, which was Jaya Bhaduri/Bachchan, and so I messaged to her that I was expecting a post from her. Instead, she asked me that even I can do a post. And she also pointed out the birth anniversary of actor Jeetendra (and so if there was a song of Jaya Bachchan and Jeetendra, it would have been suitable for the post).

But then, few days back I myself had sent a song to Atul ji requesting to post it on the birth anniversary of another Jaya i.e. Jayaprada whose birth anniversary was on 3rd April. And that thought inspired (? 😊) me – Yes, I can do this post combining the anniversaries of both Jayaprada and Jeetendra – and yes, this song, which I liked, was already there and the film has not made a debut on the blog. And one more purpose was getting achieved i.e. to introduce ‘movie with the same title’ on the blog. So here is a song from ‘Tohfa’ (1984). One movie with the same title ‘Tohfa’ was released in 1947 and this movie has already been represented on the blog with seven songs covered out of total ten songs in it.

The 1984 film ‘Tohfa’ was directed by K Raghavendra Rao for Suresh Productions, Madras. It was produced by D Rama Naidu. The star cast includes Jeetendra, Sridevi, Jayaprada, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Mohan Choti, Urmila Bhatt, Leela Mishra, Jagdeep, Aruna Irani, Jayshree T, Master Rinku and others. Asrani makes a friendly appearance in this movie.

Dialogues for this movie are written by Kader Khan and editing of this movie was done by KA Marthand. The movie was passed by Censor Board on 21.01.1984.

The film has five songs (including one two-part song). Lyrics are written by Indeevar. Music of this movie is composed by Bappi Lahiri. Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and SP Balasubramaniam have given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar and lip syncing it on screen are Jeetendra and Jayaprada respectively.  Also seen in the picturization of this song is Master Rinku who gets to lip sync few lines in between the song in the voice not credited in the movie titles and also not mentioned in HFGK Vol-VI (1981-1985).

3rd April was actress Jayaprada’s fifty eighth (born on 03.04.1962) birth anniversary and here on the blog we are wishing her a belated Happy Birthday and a happy, healthy and peaceful life ahead.

Also, Jeetendra celebrates his seventy-eighth birth anniversary today on 7th April (born on 07.04.1942) and we wish him too a very Happy Birthday today and a happy, healthy and peaceful life ahead.

Now coming back to 1984. This year, Jeetendra and Jayaprada were seen together in the following movies;

S No Movie Name Music Director Passed by Censor Board
1 Haisiyat Bappi Lahiri 10.08.1984
2 Maqsad Bappi Lahiri 30.04.1984
3 Tohfaa Bappi Lahiri 21.01.1984

If we consider the annual ‘Binaca Geetmala’ list of 1984 as many as four songs from the movie ‘Tohfa’ were represented there. Today’s song ranked at number twenty-seven, while other songs ranked at number 3 – “Pyar Ka Tohfa Tera, Bana Hai Jeevan Mera” (title song), number 4 was “Ek Aankh Maaroon To”, and number twenty-six was “Gori Tere Ang Ang Mein’.

And if we consider movies with music composed by Bappi Lahiri, the annual list Binaca Geetmala of 1984, contained as many as eight movies – ‘Sharaabi’, ‘Tohfaa’, ‘Mawaali (1983)’, ‘Maqsad’, ‘Haisiyat’, ‘Wanted’, ‘Kaamyaab’, and ‘Qaidi’.

Let us now enjoy the today’s song, which I like most from this movie. In the movie, the second stanza of the song is repeated when Jayaprada dies, leaving a child behind to Sridevi and Jeetendra also present there.

With this song ‘Tohfa’ (1984) makes its debut on the blog.

Editor’s note:- This song happens to be the 200th duet of Lata and Kishore Kumar in the blog.

aakhri aarzoo kya hai
tujh se pehle main utth jaaun
maine ye socha hai
agley janam mein, , ,
donon milenge. . .
apnaa ye waada hai
apnaa ye waada hai
albela mausam
kehta hai swaagatam
albela mausam
kehta hai swaagatam

mehki kyun gali gali
khili kyun kali kali
kya kehti hai hawa

tujhe har khushi miley
lambi zindagi miley

# The Special Voices of the Decade (1971-1980) – 5 # Suresh Wadkar #
———————————————–———————————–——————

Welcome all to this fifth article in this series where we are discussing Special Voices that made their debut in HFM in the Seventies and carved their own niche on the HFM scene.

Some of them enjoyed success for a little while only to fade away with passage of time. Some of them became popular and continued to remain so for considerable time.

No matter how they fared at the HFM scene, all of them contributed in enriching HFM. All of them provided music lovers with many memories to cherish and savour.

Today we will be discussing about one such talented artist- Singer- who made his debut in 1977 and over the years has given us many memorable songs and who is active even now (I think his latest film song was from ‘Bramhaand Nayak Sai Baba-2016’ and a NF -ghazal album sung by him was released in 2016 in memory of his guru ‘Acharya Jiyalal Vasant’ i.e. ‘Chupke Chupke’) In addition, he is active in singing Marathi and other regional language songs as well.)

In his career spanning almost forty years, he has more than five hundred songs to his credit (if the sources I am referring to are correct). And given the number of songs he has sung I can say that his must be the most prolific artist among all the artists who will be featuring in this series …

Incidentally I get a chance to share one of his songs for our ASAD – 10th anniversary celebrations. And regulars to this blog who have listened to this song ‘Kaale kaale baadal jab bhi chhayenge’ and the male voice in it, I am sure must be still feeling the sweetness, the magic and the melodious range of this voice lingering in their ears still now or for that matter of any songs sung by him leave this impact on the listeners as usual.

***

Suresh Ishwar Wadkar was born on 7th August’1954 in Kolhapur (Maharashtra).
We wish him a belated happy Birthday and healthy and peaceful life ahead…
(Belatedly as I could not finish the write up in time and send it to our editors in time).

Another story of coming from a very humble background and scaling newer heights through sheer dedication, sincerity and perseverance in the field of music.

Suresh Wadkar’s father was a ‘mill worker’ in Sitaram Mills. His father was very fond of music and particularly ‘bhajans’. And the surroundings in which he grown up was traditional and cultural as all festivals were celebrated with fervour and music being an intrinsic part of it.

His father was very fond of ‘bhajans’ and he used to attend many programmes of ‘bhajans’ where Suresh then 4/5 years old used to accompany his father in these programmes of ‘Bhajan’. That is where he got with in all our traditions and cultures and listening to talented singers. And as it happened he was singing something and that was noticed by his father, and thus started his formal training classes in music when he was five only.

His guru from Sangli Shri Digrajkar was then giving him lessons in singing. He advised Suresh’s father to let Suresh continue with music and singing.

When he was eight he come to Acharya Jiyalal Vasant’s gurukul and Acharya ji groomed him into what he is today. He took care of all of his education and all. And looking into his passion when he was only thirteen years old his guru Jiyalal ji advised him to give training to other students in his institute.
Looking at his understanding of music, Acharya ji advised Suresh Wadkar to pursue education and degree in music. Following his guru’s advice Suresh Wadkar joined Prayag Sangeet Samiti and secured his degree of ‘Prabhakar’ in music and later joined ‘Arya Vidya Mandir’ in Mumbai as a ‘Music Teacher.

Suresh Wadkar, naturally, has great respect and admiration for his Guru ji and other disciples at the ‘gurukul’ – his ‘guru bhai’ and ‘guru behen’ and his elder sister i.e. daughter of Acharya ji – Prem Vasant– he speaks about them with great love and passion. And he has in deep sense all the gratitude for whatever his ‘guru ji’ has given to him and that is why after his ‘guru ji’ passed away being an elder among all the disciples he has shouldered the responsibility of his ‘guru ji’s legacy’ in the form of the school of music founded by his guru – ‘Ajivasan’ (this also gives online training in music).

He also started an online music school, called SWAMA (Suresh Wadkar Ajivasan Music Academy), (an innovative initiative) under Ace Open University continue to impart training in music in New Jersey. He, his wife, and his ‘guru sister’ visits every three months to supervise the operations and classes going on there.

and for him ‘music’ is the most difficult and greatest form of art which needs more dedication, seriousness and religiousness in efforts.

He has very high regards towards all the music directors who had given him the opportunity to sing and specially for the Mangeshkars he speaks about them with respect and gratitude. In his interview here one can listen his thoughts and just imagine what kind of a ‘noble’ and ‘pure’ character must be and that is what I think we finds in his voice too.

He was also present in the recent Jaidev Birth Centenary celebrations held at NCPA (NCPA Bandish music festival) Mumbai where our Respected Senior Shri Bharat Bhai was also present.

***

How this ‘anokhi aawaaz’ make his debut in the Hindi Film Industry is another interesting story.

It so happened that in 1970s (in 1976 to be specific) a big musical competition organised by ‘Sur-Singaar Sansad’ was held where participants aspiring to be singers from all over India participated this competition.
However, Suresh Wadkar’s singing impressed everybody and he was awarded ‘Madan Mohan Puraskar’.
Famous music directors like Jaidev, Ravindra Jain, Pt Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Sudhir Phadke and Pt Shivkumar Sharma and Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia (Shiv-Hari) were the panel of the judges who judge the competition and selected the winner.

Ravindra Jain while announcing Suresh Wadkar as winner also announced that he will be singing a song in his next movie and thus happened ‘vrishti pade taapur tupoor’ …

The next opportunity for Suresh Wadkar came straight way from the most respected and talented Music director Jaidev ji who given him the opportunity to sing in ‘Gaman-1978’. Later on, Suresh Wadkar also worked with him as his assistant and sing for him whenever he was given an opportunity to do so.

While assisting Jaidev ji he got to learn many things of music and the nuances of composing music.

Somehow as they say it was destined to be, Lata Mangeshkar is said to have heard about this voice and she was so impressed by his singing that she recommended him to the famous music duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal and also to Khayyam Saab and Kalyanji bhai-Anand ji bhai.

After that, it was no looking back for Suresh Wadkar and he keep getting many opportunities from all music directors ruling the HFM at that time.

***

For me, I have vague memories of this song ‘vrishti pade taapur tupoor’ being frequently heard on radio & loudspeakers and I do like it very much.

Then ‘seene mein jalan’, I remember I liked it very much and may be that was the time when for the first time I must have been got to know about the singer or we among friends must have discussed about this voice (looking my interests in HFM since childhood, I think I can say that).

Then I remember this song from ‘Krodhi’ in 1981 ‘chal chameli baag mein’ was a regular at the ‘Binaca Geetmala’ and it stood 16th in the annual programme of the Binaca Geetmala that year.
However, the next year’s – 1982’s ‘Binaca Geetmala’ in its annual programme saw as many as four songs having Suresh Wadkar’s voice viz. ‘Main hoon Prem Rogi’, ‘Meri qismat mein tu nahin shaayad’, ‘Muhabbat hai kyaa cheez hamko bataao’ all from ‘Prem Rog-1982’ and ‘Megha re megha re’ from ‘Pyaasa Saawan-1981’.

I think with the songs of ‘Prem Rog-1981’ Suresh Wadkar became a household name and almost all of its songs were a huge hit though ‘bhanware ne khilaaya phool’ is my favourite. It is different thing that not this song but the other songs of ‘Prem Rog’ (couple of which I don’t like then), make to the annual ‘Binaca Geetmala’.

Before that we had ‘megha re megha re’ from ‘Pyaasa Saawan’ taking us to reach out the clouds about to rain ‘the message of love’ … and we got soaked in the melodious voice of Suresh Wadkar …

Surprisingly before that we had his voice at number seven of annual ‘Binaca Geetmala-1979’ singing ‘Jijaaji jiaaji honewaale jijaaji’ in which he lent voice for Vinod Mehra in ‘Saajan Bina Suhaagan-1978’.

In 1981 we also have the magical ‘ye aankhen dekh kar ham saari duniya’ from ‘Dhanwan’ which spelled its magic on audience and it was too very popular and is also one of my favourite songs. (and this was his first song to appear on our blog).

After that I remember may be sometime around 1982-83 when I was on a visit to Nagpur (may be for watching the cricket between India and Pakistan at my Uncle’s home, on TV which had just reached us then, and into the old city market I heard this song playing on Radio ‘shaam rangeen huyi hai’ and I was totally taken away by this song. At that time, I was not knowing which movie it was from. Many years I keep searching for this song which I later got to know (I think it was because of this blog only) it was from. It was from the 1981 movie ‘Kaanoon Aur Mujrim’. Once again, a gem of song but not rewarded and forgotten in the midst of other popular songs then.

Also, I cannot forget ‘ae zindagi gale lagaa le’ from ‘Sadma-1983’, so close to our hearts and may have been liked by many many like me.

‘Likhne waale ne likh daale’ from Arpan from the same year was on 19th while meri qismat mein tu nahin shaayad was on 12th in 1983 annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’.

Later on, we have ‘aur kyaa ahad e wafaa hote hain’ from ‘Sunny-1984’, ‘saanjh dhaley gagan taley’ from ‘Utsav-1984’, then we have gems of songs from ‘Sur Sangam-1985, popular songs coming from ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili-1985’, ‘Khaamosh sa afsaana paani se likhaa hota’ from the UR – Libaas -1988, ‘sooni sooni ankhiyon mein’ and ‘rakibon se habibon se’ from ‘Laal Dupattaa Mal Mal Ka’, ‘lagi aaj saawan ki phir wo jhadi hai’, ‘surmayi shaam is tarah aaye’ from ‘Lekin-1990’, ‘Dil-1991’, ‘Sangeet-1992’, and there are many.
Many are my favourites too… like ‘tumse mil ke aisaa lagaa’, ‘dhadkan zaraa ruk gayee hai’, ‘husn pahaadon ka’ and many …

And how can I forget ‘hamraahi mere hamraahi’ and ‘aur is dil mein kyaa rakhaa hai’, then I had also watched this movie ‘Yaadon Ki Kasam-1985’ which had ‘Baithh mere paas tujhe dekhta rahoon’.
I also remember ‘chaudhavin raat hai, ab chaand dikha de apna’ from ‘Yaadon Ke Mausam-1990’ which was frequently heard and popular then …

Not to forget ‘chappa chappa charkha chale’ and ‘chhod aaye ham wo galiyaan’ both from ‘Maachis-1996’.

There are many … and I would like to note here that the list of his Marathi songs is another long list where I have my favourites and many gems of songs which he has sung in Marathi.

The list goes on and on and we cannot list them all (at least the popular ones) here due to space constraint (and if I have missed to mention any prominent one I would like readers to forgive me for that).

After coming into the contact with this blog initially I had shared few of his songs (in 2012-13) like ‘Goron ki naa kaalon ki’ (from Disco Dancer, which I think was also quite popular in those years), then ‘Kabhi ajnabi thhe (Title Song), and ‘Surmayi shaam’ from ‘Lekin’ which remains to be posted yet. And there are many of songs still to be posted on the blog and the reason may be that since his career started at the end of seventies and picked up later in the eighties, we still have a long way to go to represent his songs on the blog (as of now 57 only).

So, I will stop the listing them here and come back to the today’s post now …

For this post, selecting a song was very difficult because as I said above, we still have a long way to go and there are many songs to choose from.

However, I had this song ‘Ram Dulari maike gayi’ 🙂 from ‘Meri Biwi Ki Shaadi’ in my mind since many years and I had decided that I will select only this song and not any other. (And it was from a movie of seventies and nostalgic for me too 🙂 )

But, while I was browsing through the filmography of Suresh Wadkar songs I came across this movie and when I listened to this song I was totally taken by it and it started growing on me as I listened to it again and again. This was from the movie ‘Bhayaanak-1979’ composed by Usha Khanna.

I had not watched this movie earlier and even now. From the star cast I can guess that this song is lip synced on screen by Ravi Kumar, a newcomer, who was paired with Razia Sultana, another newcomer. The picturisation of this song and its singing by Suresh Wadkar makes it very special.
As the movie didn’t fare well at the box office, I think this and other songs of this movie were forgotten easily.

‘Bhayaanak-1979’ was directed by S.U. Saiyed for ‘AVM Arts International’.

It had Mithun Chakravarty, Sadhoo Meher, Niloo Phule, Chandrashekhar, Mushtaq Merchant, C.S. Dubey, Jagdish Raj, Shaheen Khan, Sushila Raut, Annu Dhawan, Sadhna Khote, Hamid Rakesh, Major Anand, Fatima, Mannu Arora, Master Danny Jr., Master Abid, Master Anis, M. Miquel, and Madan Joshi and Om Shiv Puri were the other star cast of this movie.

Ranjeeta had a special appearance in this movie. Sharad Saxena makes a Guest appearance in this movie.

The movie introduced Ranjan Garewal, Shashi Ranjan and a ‘fresh romantic pair Ravi Kumar and Razia Sultana’ (as per the movie titles 😊)

Warsi Ahmed Siddiq was the Chief Assistant Director of this movie.

Harish Choudhry was the editor of this movie, and he was assisted by Sudhir Deshpande.
M.Maroof wrote the script of this movie. Munir Shah was the Dialogue Director.
Dialogues were written by Madan Joshi, while the story was by the AVM arts story department.

It was passed by Censor Board on 23.08.1979.

It was a suspense movie released for restricted viewing with ‘A’ certificate.

Lyrics of the five songs in this movie were penned by Indivar and music was composed by Usha Khanna.

Suresh Wadkar, Hemlata, Anuradha Paudwal (wrongly spelled Paduwal in the titles of the movie) gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

(Source of Information for this post – I have used the various YT links giving biographical details of Suresh Wadkar, then his Interview available here, which I would like interested readers should visit and listen to his story in his own voice.
I also referred to Wikipedia and other information on internet and songs in my memory 
When I thought of this write up considering the information available I thought I would be able to send it before 7th Aug, however after going into the details of his life and career I doubt whether I have been able to do justice to the feelings and thoughts going in my mind, as the enormity of his talent, his struggle and what he has achieved is such that it requires a detailed study or a ‘full biography’ in the form of a book (at least for me).

Let us now enjoy today’s song … and savour this ‘magical voice’ of Suresh Wadkar. I would once again request readers to forgive me if I have from my side not been to that level in bringing this biographical sketch here. For me the memories of the voice and nostalgia, of course, is the first thing close to my heart and this is my endeavor in return for all the beautiful memories this voice and the other voices have given to me …

Earlier we had the following four posts in this series, I am listing them below for interested readers …

Yoon lagne lagi aajkal zindagaani

Blog Day : 3604 Post No. : 14383

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 68# Singer – Kishore Kumar
———————————————–——————–

My personal opinion is that wherever and whatever field we are we should have a purpose and we should contribute to enrich that surroundings we are, for however long or short a period we are there. It was not that I was so ‘intelligent’ since my younger days. The thinking is a result of my experience or you can say ‘mistakes’ 😊 which have taught me a lot and yes ‘age should not be the price one should pay for being experience’ (as Wise people say). But some people like me took years to realize the ‘world around’ and learn only from mistakes 😊

Ok, whatever it is!! Here on this blog ever since I have been associated with, I am trying to do so. And simultaneously I continue to keep adding something. As and when I notice it, I also try to bring to the notice of our ‘editors’ the small or big corrections and or missing links which we need to correct and or re-install. Well, it is a different matter, that since they are much busier and already loaded with lot of requests and mails, sometimes my requests just keep lying in the mail boxes (may be for years or more 😊).

Few days back when I was browsing through my pending list I noticed the song under discussion today was pending since long. And when I just glance through some statistics of interest, I find that sharing this song with a post is going to serve some purpose.

When I was drafting this post the number of Kishore Kumar solo songs posted on the blog was at 498, so I thought I should push one ahead so that the milestone of 500 is achieved. But, in the meantime, I could not send the post and this milestone was already achieved on the blog. Later I thought maybe I send it for the auspicious ‘501’, but that also was not achieved. However, the ‘bigger reason’ to share this post was still there and posting of this song here today will push this movie- of which the today’s song is from – one step ahead in the ‘Yippeeee land’ as after this song only one song from this movie ‘Kaaran’ will be remaining to be posted on the blog.

‘Kaaran’ is a movie of 1980. Yes, as per HFGK and movie’s Censor Certificate, its movie of 1980 passed by Censor Board on 18.11.1980, maybe it was released in theatres in 1981 which is all possible. (So, this needs to be corrected on the blog and this is yet another purpose of this post).

‘Kaaran’ is directed by BR Ishara for Bhagyalakshami Chitra Mandir Combine, Bombay. It was produced by Gopi Rohra. It had Raj Kiran, Shoma Anand, Master Bittu, Arun Irani, Seema Deo, Ramesh Deo, Ashok Khanna, Sanu Sanyal, Shankar, Pardesi, PM Maniyar, RS Chopda, Shirvastava, Sunder Taneja, Kamal Thakur, Mona Sayeed, Ashish Oza, Soman Randhava, Amit Kumar, Shyam Solanki, Amarchand, and Naveen Nischol in a ‘special appearance’. Satyen Kappu, Dheeraj Kumar, Manhar Desai and Gulshan Arora make a ‘guest appearance’ in this movie. The story is written by Jyoti Swaroop and BR Ishara (spelt as B AAR Ishara in the movie titles 😊). Editing for this movie was done by LD Bhatia.

The movie has three songs – all solo songs sung by male singers viz. Kishore Kumar, Yesudas and Mohd Rafi. Lyrics for all the three songs are penned by Indeewar and music is composed by Usha Khanna. One song sung by Yesudas from this movie has been posted to cover a ‘major milestone’ on the blog i.e. 1000th lyrics Contribution of Prakashchandra ji.

Today we present the second song of this movie, which in the movie is the first song. I came across this song almost more than five years back when I was a ‘newcomer’ on the blog 😊. I have not watched this movie so can’t say much about its story and its performance at the box-office. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the movie and its songs.

With a ‘purpose’ and ‘reason’ for this presentation and continuing with the journey of Kishore Kumar’s songs from the ‘decade of seventies’ let us now enjoy this poignant song. . .

kaaran naa jaane koi…

Song – Kaaran Na Jaane Koi (Kaaran) (1980) Singer – Kishore Kumar, Lyrics – Indeewar, MD – Usha Khanna

Lyrics

kaaran na jaane koi
dil royaa aankh na royi
kaaran na jaane koi
toofaan dubotaa
to shikwaa na hotaa

khewaiyya ne naiyaa duboyee ee ee
kaaran na jaane koi
dil royaa aankh na royi
kaaran na jaane koi

apna kaha na mujhko kisi ne
kya main itna paraaya hoon
chalte hain sab mujhse bachke
kya main gunaahon ka saaya hoon
phir na jaagi kismat aisi
maut ki neendiya soyi ee ee
kaaran na jaane koi
dil royaa aankh naa royi
kaaran na jaane koi

patthar ko bhi chot lagey to
aag ugalney lagta hai
jag ko jalaakar dam leta hai
jab dil jalne lagta hai
phool bana hai bahaar ka dushman
baagh bachega na koi ee ee
kaaran na jaane koi
dil royaa aankh na royi
kaaran na jaane koi

aa ha ha ha aa ha
ho ho ho o ho ho o

pyaar jinhen milta hain kisi ka
wo sansaar sajaate hain
thukraaye jaate hain jo
duniyaa mein tabaahee laatein hain
suraj ne bhi andheron mein pal kar
roshni kaise khoi ee ee
kaaran na jaane koi
dil royaa aankh na royi ee
kaaran na jaane koi

ped binaa phal
phool binaa phulwaari adhoori hoti hai
jaagti hai jab mamta mann mein
naari poori hoti hai
mom ke jaisa patthar pighla
dil royaa aankh bhi royi ee ee
kaaran na jaane koi
dil royaa aankh bhi royi
kaaran na jaane koi
kaaran na jaane koi

Blog Day : 3490 Post No. : 14019

The film ‘Sushila’ of 1966 – and a peculiar turn of events as we tried to ‘Yippeee’ this film, earlier on 26th January. And then there is another very interesting quirk related with this post and this Yippeee action today.

After having done our due diligence and concluding that about 10 days back, we were ready to Yippeee this film, I was preparing the post for the song “Satyamev Jayate”, the then final pending song of this film. It is a nationalistic song, and I was working to publish this song on 26th Jan, and also do the honors of Yippeee-ing this film.

Just a chance examination of the folder of the songs of this film in my collection, and I was surprised to see that there is an extra song sitting in there. A little surprised, I started checking for more information. After some back and forth across the pages of Geet Kosh itself, I was able to locate the information. Actually, this song is listed in the corrigenda (appendix of corrections) of the volume IV, as an addition to the list of songs of this film. And so, we established that the film ‘Sushila’ actually has seven songs and not six. So the plans for that day were changed. A different film was Yippeee’d that day. And now, today is the turn of this film to join the band of Yippeee’d films.

As we take a look the list of songs of this film, I must say that it is a very impressive list of some very wonderful songs. Check out the list of songs posted so far.

Gham Ki Andheri Raat Mein Sushila 2552 22-Jun-10
Bemurawwat Bewafaa Sushila 3755 9-Apr-11
Bahut Khoobsoorat Hain Aankhen Tumhaaree Sushila 5216 29-Dec-11
Nazar Nawaaz Nazaaron Mein Kho Gaya Hoon Main Sushila 5274 9-Jan-12
Gori Milna Ho Milna Re Nadiya Ke Paar Sushila 6539 29-Aug-12
Satyamev Jayate Satyamev Jayate Sushila 13978 26-Jan-18

Each one of the above listed songs is a wonderful gem. And so is the final addition to this list, being uploaded and posted today. This song was hitherto not available online. Well let me correct that. The song is available on YouTube, albeit as a part of the 4th Nov, 2017 edition of Bhoole Bisre Geet broadcast on AIR FM Gold, which is a special program honoring the music director C Arjun.

The song is sung by Asha Bhosle. Lyrics are from the pen of Indeewar. It is a very poignant mother-child song. It could have been a lorie, a lullaby in the film, but I cannot be sure. I request our more knowledgeable readers to kindly add more information about the on screen performance of this song, and also about the film itself.

Now let me add one more very peculiar twist to this scenario. Based on information in the footnotes, it seems that the film ‘Sushila’ was possibly re-released with a different title, at a later point in time. There is a film from 1977, listed in the Geet Kosh – titled ‘Subah Zaroor Aayegi’. As we compare the information entries for these two films, we find that the list of songs is identical. The information about singers of individual songs, the names of the lyricists, and the name of music director, are also identical.

The other item of information that is identical is the name of the director of the films. Interestingly enough the production banner is different. ‘Sushila’ is released under the banner of Shri Vinayak Chitra of Bombay, whereas ‘Subah Zaroor Aayegi’ is released under the banner of Shri Devo Films, Karnataka. The cast of actors, which is listed only for the latter film, reads like Kumar, Ram Kumar, Harman, Sheila, Lal Bahadur, Ranjeet Budhkar, Shivaji Jadhav, Ashu, Mahesh Raj, Prabhakar, Moolchand, Sandeep, Uma Khosla, Jeet, Dubey, Sinha, Firoza, K Raghunath, Krishan Duggal, Shobha, Dilip Dutt, Chhotu Sawant, Chandrakant, S Jairaj, Surekha Naik, Inderkumar Bhatia, Prakash Inamdar, Ramdas Padhey, Shabana, and Nayan Tara.

So now I have a poser specifically for Atul ji. As per the Geet Kosh information, it is a possibility that these two films are actually the same. Looking at the list of songs, well they are identical. And yet, being released separately under different production banners, and also being titled differently – are these two films?

So then, is it the case that we have the most peculiar and a most unique circumstance, wherein we are Yippeee’ing two films – at the same time. Wo wo. . . this is going to be a first, and probably the last such occasion where we are able to Yippeee two films that are distinctly and separately listed in the Geet Kosh. Most interesting circumstance. If yes, then this post has to be marked as a very unique post indeed.

What say Atul ji, – shall we Yippeee two films with this one post, today. 🙂

Song – Mere Aanchal Ka Diya  (Sushila) (1966) Singer – Asha Bhosle, Lyrics – Indeewar, MD – C Arjun

Lyrics

mere aanchal ka diya tu
meri aankhon ki kiran
tere badle mein agar chaand miley
to bhi na loon
mere aanchal ka diya tu
meri aankhon ki kiran
tere badle mein agar chaand miley
to bhi na loon
mere aanchal ka diya

mere jaisa koi duniya mein hi
khushaal kahaan
oo ooo oooo
mere jaisa koi duniya mein hi
khushaal kahaan
tere jaisa hai mera laal
main kangaal kahaan
main kangaal kahaan
mere anmol rattan ae
mere badhte huye dhan
tere badle mein agar chaand miley
to bhi na loon
mere aanchal ka diya

tere kaajal ki lakeeron mein hai
taqdeer meri
oo ooo oooo
tere kaajal ki lakeeron mein hai
taqdeer meri
teri soorat mein nazar aati hai
tasveeer meri
haaye
tasveeer meri
mere aangan ki kali ae
mere jeevan ki lagan
tere badle mein agar chaand miley
to bhi na loon

mere aanchal ka diya tu
meri aankhon ki kiran
. . .

Today, 13th August is the birthday of Sridevi, as she turns 54.

For this celebration, here is a wonderful dance song performed by her, from the film ‘Jaag Utha Insaan’ (1984). The setting for the song is a stage performance, likely at a religious function. On stage, Sridevi is accompanied by Mithun Chaktravarty playing the flute and Beena signing the vocals. We also see Sudhir Dalvi, sitting next to Beena. In the audience we can see Yunus Parvez, sitting in the chair right up front, Sujeet Kumar and Kaanan Kaushal sitting  in the audience, Rakesh Roshan and Deven Verma, standing at the back, with Somayaajulu making an entry, while the program is in progress.
