“Pyaara Dushman” (1980) was produced by Subhash Sagar and directed by Anand Sagar. The movie had Rakesh Roshan, Sarika, Amjad Khan, Vidya Sinha, Vinod Mehra, Yogita Bali, Jagdish Raj, Paro, Baby Khushboo, Nazir Hussain, Suresh Oberoi, Kalpana Iyer, Dev Kumar, Master Bhagwan, Dulari, Master Don, Birbal, Habib, Javed Khan, Kamalnath, Tika Singh, Ramesh Kumar, Yogee, Jezebel, Master Sagar, Master Sonu (today`s playback Singer Sonu Nigam), Master Bittoo, Jugnoo etc in it.
The last song posted from this film gave the above list of actors in the film. I only have a few loved songs in the film, I don’t have any idea about the story of the film. I have seen a few scenes, a long time ago, and I vaguely remember there was a lost-and-found angle in the story; Rakesh Roshan-Vinod Mehra- Vidya Sinha being the separated siblings. Also, Amjad Khan played Shiva- a criminal- who’s past catches up with him to disrupt his happily married life; he marries Vidya Sinha who is a tawaif (dancer).
Bappi Lahiri was the music director with Anjaan, Indeevar & Kulwant Jani as the lyricists. Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Usha Iyer (Uthup) & Rafiq Sagar (never heard of him before) were the playback singers used for the seven songs in the film. The following two are there on the blog.

There was one song in the film, which was very popular back then, and people still cannot resist shaking a leg to the beats of that song after so many years. It was sung by Usha Uthup and Kalpana Iyer was the dancer. We can call it an inspired song or a copy of “One way Ticket” which was sung by Neil Sedaka & popularized by British Disco Band “Eruption”.
“HARI OM HARI” from “Pyaara Dushman” popularized ‘One way Ticket’ in India. Also, it put the careers of Kalpana Iyer & Usha Uthup on top gear. The association of Usha Uthup & Bappi Lahiri came up with many popular songs in the 1980s with Kalpana Iyer dancing in many og them. I think it was this particular song that put Bappida on the road to be called “King of Disco Music” in Hindi films, songs from Mithun Chakravarthy’s “Disco Dancer” came in 1982. “Hari Om Hari” was written by Anjaan. I love the way Usha Uthup sang the english words in the song & her “shibdiya” during the cross-music between the antaras & at the close of the song.
I learnt a new term this morning, thanks to fellow Atulite- Shenoyji. The word is ‘Mondegreens’ which means ‘Misheard lyrics’. As a youngster, when I heard ‘Hari Om Hari’, I used to sing many parts of the song to my own words, which I realized today as I heard it along with this post. Specially the English words of this song, along with ‘kaise dhal jaaye kahin roop’ for ‘jaise dhal jaaye chadi dhoop’ – maybe because the preceding line in the song is ‘khilti kali sa khila roop’.
We are wishing the singer Usha Uthup a (belated) birthday (it was on 7th November) with this song & Thanking BappiDa for making us dancers with his songs. It is his birth anniversary today, he would have been 72.
