Today’s song is from the movie “Hero No. 1”. Govinda is the lead actor in this movie and today is his 61st birthday (born on 21.12.1963). On this occasion we wish him a very happy birthday and a very happy, healthy, and peaceful life ahead. I am not a great fan of Govinda. In fact initially I hated watching his movies coming in those years of end eighties or early nineties. However I liked some of his movies that I watched viz. ‘Raja Babu’, ‘Swarg’, ‘Hum’, ‘Deewaanaa Mastaanaa’, ‘Bad Miyaan Chhote Miyaan’, ‘Marte Dum Tak’, and ‘Aankhen’. I may not have watched some of the movies which according to his fans are his best or prominent movies of his career. I was never interested in watching them and I was more inclined towards other type of movies in those years. I might have watched his other movies too but I could not recollect them now.
Recently when I was travelling back from my work place to home (which is about 46 kms from my place) I was reminded of this song and I break into humming this song. This song has a catchy tune and a nice foot tapping music. Thereafter I watched this song and listened to it more than twice. Govinda has been excellent when it comes to doing mimicry of actors of yesteryears’ especially of actor Sanjeev Kumar (which I liked most). In today’s song too he is mimicking Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar. The way he enacted the ‘jigs’ of Kaka (Rajesh Khanna) is what I liked the most in the picturisation of this song.. Thissong may not be a great song or boast of great lyrics but it is a nice entertaining song. And today we have this special occasion of our musical blog celebrating its 6000 days of existence on the internet and also today it will surely be clicking 18700 songs figure on the blog. So, this makes a perfect combination to celebrate and enjoy this song sung by Kumar Sanu.
The today’s movie ‘Hero No.1’ was directed by David Dhawan for ‘Puja Films’. Vashu Bhagnani was the producer of this movie. The story of this movie was inspired by Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s “Baawarchi-1972”. And sources mentioned it that this movie ‘Hero No.1’ was remade in Telugu as ‘Goppinti Alludu’ in the year ‘2000’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 14.02.1997. The movie also pays tribute to Govinda’s mother Late Smt Nirmala Devi Ahuja. The cast of this movie included Govinda, Karisma Kapoor, Kader Khan, Paresh Rawal, Satish Shah, Tiku Talsania, Anil Dhawan, Omkar Kapoor, Rakesh Bedi, Himani Shivpuri, Shagufta Ali, Reeta Bhaduri, Prachi, and in special appearance we have Shakti Kapoor and Harish in this movie. Vikas Anand, Dinesh Hingoo and Shashi Kiran had a guest appearance in this movie. Rumy Jaffery was the writer of this movie, while editing of this movie was done by A. Muthu. Lyricist Sameer wrote the songs for this movie and music was composed by Anand Milind.
‘Wikipedia’ mentions on this movie page that “Anand-Milind came up with a chart-topping score yet again for a Govinda-David Dhawan film. The music, especially the song, “Sona Kitna Sona Hain”, emerged a winner on countdown shows and is remembered till date. The other songs also gained popularity like “Saaton Janam”, “Maine Paidal”, “Main Tujko Bhagaa Laaya”, “Mohobbat Ki Nahi” and “U P Waala”. Poornima earned herself a Zee Cine awards nomination for “Sona Kitna Sona Hain” but lost to Lata Mangeshkar for ‘Dil To Paagal Hai’.
Let us now enjoy today’s song where Govinda is lip-syncing in the voice of Kumar Sanu. Karisma Kapoor and Himani Shivpuri are also present in the picturisation of this song. Lyrics are by Sameer and music is composed by Anand Milind. With today’s song this movie ‘Hero No.1-1997’ makes its debut on the blog and joins its ‘हम-नाम’(namesake) movies “Hero No.1-1939’ and ‘Hero No.1-1959’ that are already present on the blog.
