# Lyricist Javed Akhtar’s Birthday #

Today 17th January 2020 is the 80th birthday of Writer, Poet and Lyricist Javed Akhtar who was born on 17th January 1945 at Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh). We on this blog are wishing him a ‘very happy birthday today and a healthy and peaceful life ahead!!
On this occasion I will be presenting a few songs penned by Javed Akhtar where the music was composed by the genius R.D. Burman. Though Javed Akhtar and R.D. Burman collaborated in only eight films, they have given us some unforgettable musical gems. ‘Saagar-1985’ and ‘1942-A Love Story-1994’ where they worked together have already been YIPPEED in the blog. Nevertheless we still have songs available from other movies where they collaborated.
I am presenting a song from the 1992 movie ‘Drohee’. It was directed by Ram Gopal Verma for ‘Drishya Creations, Hyderabad’. Ram Gopal Verma was also the Producer of this movie. The cast of this movie has Nagarjun, Urmila Matondkar, Danny Denzongpa, Salim Ghouse, Sunaina, Akash Khurana, Ravi Patwardhan, Silk Smitha and others. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 20.10.1992. Ramgopal Verma was the writer of this movie, and dialogues were written by Akash Khurana. The editing of this movie was done by Shankar. This film is said to be inspired by the James Hadley Chase novel ‘My Laugh Comes Last-1977’. ‘Drohee-1992’ was made simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu. In Telugu, the film’s title was “Antham”. Sources on internet mentions that six songs were common in both the versions of the film. Out of the six songs the Telugu version has two songs composed, one each by Keeravani aka M.M. Kreem, and Mani Sharma.
Here is in very short the plot of this movie.
Raghav (Nagarjuna) is working for underworld under J.P. Shetty (Danny Denzongpa). Shetty hires Raghav for murder too. It so happens that when Raghav is leading his life secretly, he meets Bhavna (Urmila Matondkar). Bhavna is an ornithologist student. Raghav is attracted by her charm, and he keeps meeting her by another name, i.e. Shekhar hiding his real identity. While everything is going normal, Bhavna comes across the real identity of Raghav and what happens later is what the movie is all about.
Sources mention that in spite of some good performances by the cast in this movie, this movie was a failure at the box office. The director of this movie Ram Gopal Verma later made ‘Satya-1998’ based on the same theme and learning from whatever went wrong with his venture ‘Drohee-1992’.
I am presenting a song sung by Asha Bhonsle which is picturised on Urmila Matondkar around some beautiful green locations or forests (is it?). This is a nice song ‘welcoming the morning’ in the forest.
