“Nishchaiy”(1992) was produced by Bhappie Sonie and directed by Esmaayeel Shroff. The movie had Vinod Khanna, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Moushmi Chatterjee, Sudha Chandran, Avtar Gill, Rajeev Kumar, Reema Lagoo, Roopa Ganguly, Saeed Jaffrey, Kishore Bhanushali, Sarla Yogelkar, Shammi Kapoor, Mahesh, Goga Kapoor, Rajendra Nath etc in it.

This movie had six songs in it.

Today (28 october 2018) is the 11th death anniversary of O P Nayyar (16 january 1926- 28 january 2007). On this occasion, here is the first song from “Nishchaiy”(1992) to appear in the blog.

Only the audio of this song is available. Still, one ca readily tell that this song is an archtypical O P Nayyar style ghoda gaadi song. It is sung by Md Aziz. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movi as well as on the picturisation of this song.

With this song, “Nishchaiy”(1992) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Chal mere ghode chal chal chal(Nischaiy)(1992) Singer-Md Aziz, Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics

chal mere ghode
chal chal chal
chal mere ghode
chal chal chal
duniya mein chain kahaan aan
yaar wahin ruk jaana
yaar wahin ruk jaana
miley tujhe pyaar jahaan aan
chal mere ghode chal chal chal

o o
aa ha ha
aa ha ha
aa ha ha
pyaar hi dard hai pyaar dawa
pyaar nahin hai tujhse juda
pyaar hi dard hai
pyaar dawa
pyaar nahin hai tujhse juda
wo hi to khuda ka banda hai
bandon ko jo samjhe khuda
wo hi to khuda ka banda hai
bandon ko jo samjhe khuda
chal mere ghode chal chal chal
duniya mein chain kahaan aan
yaar wahin ruk jaana
yaar wahin ruk jaana
miley tujhe pyaar jahaan aan
chal mere ghode chal chal chal

o o o
aa ha ha
aa ha ha
aa ha ha
duniya teri shaad rahe
pyaar tera aabaad rahe
duniya teri shaad rahe
pyaar tera aabaad rahe
khwaabon ki is basti mein

khwaabon ki is basti mein
aaye thhe hum yaad rahe
chal mere ghode chal chal chal
duniya mein chain kahaan aan
yaar wahin ruk jaana
yaar wahin ruk jaana
miley tujhe pyaar jahaan aan
chal mere ghode

“Mangni”(1992) is a movie of recent vintage by the standards of this blog, but this movie has ended up becoming totally obscure. I do not seem to have heard of this movie during the time it was released. The movie must have flopped spectacularly. Search on internet throws up some sketchy details about this movie. The movie was directed by B R Ishara (production house is not known). The movie had Pallavi Joshi, Sahil, Raja Bundela, Satyan Kappu, Tiku Talsania, Shammi Kapoor, Mukesh Khanna, Raman Trikha etc in it.

The movie had eight songs and these songs too ennded up becoming as unsung as the movie itself.

Here is the first song from “Mangni”(1992) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by S P Balasubrahmaniyam. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.

The song is picturised as an “expression of love” genre of song on the hero of the movie who I guess must be Sahil (going by the cast) who sings this song for the benefit of the heroine Pallavi Joshi.

The song sounds similar to most O P Nayyar compositions that used to get sung in the golden era of HFM by Rafi. But this song came much after the golden era and the magic of golden era music is sadly missing in this song.

This movie is one of the missing movies of O P Nayyar in the blog and that was the main motive behind introducing this song (and the movie) in the blog.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie whose detals seem to be conspicuous by their absense online.

With this song, “Mangni”(1992) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Kabhi na mitega mera pyaar (Mangni)(1992) Singer-S P Balasubrahmanyam, Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics

kabhi na mitega mera pyaar
duniya saari chaahe mit jaaye ae
kabhi na mitega mera pyaar
duniya saari chaahe mit jaaye ae
kabhi na mitega mera pyaar

ho ho ho
aa haa haa
hey hey hey
aa ha ha
har rang mein main tujhko
chaahta rahoonga sanam m
jaan bhi de doonga
tere liye teri qasam
tu hi pyaar hai
tu hi yaar hai
tere pyaar par aitbaar hai ae
kabhi na mitega mera pyaar
duniya saari chaahe mit jaaye ae
kabhi na mitega mera pyaar

ban jaaye tu meri
karta raha main dua aa
pyaar banaane waale ne
sun li hai meri sada
mera dilruba
mujhko mil gaya aa
na karoonga main
ab kabhi dua aa
kabhi na mitega mera pyaar
duniya saari chaahe mit jaaye ae
kabhi na mitega mera pyaar
duniya saari chaahe mit jaaye ae
kabhi na mitega mera pyaar

Hullo to Atuldom

2nd November is the birthdate of Anu Malik, son of famous yesteryear music director Sardar Malik. Sardar Malik who is one among the forgotten stars of yesteryears and is not counted among the top five, but his works are still remembered. How can one forget “main gareebon ka dil hoon watan ki zuban” or “saranga teri yaad mein” or the Talat Mehmood classic “ae gham-e-dil kya karoon”; every one of them dipped in pure emotion and melody.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

A very belated Happy Diwali to all those who I missed to wish. Hope it was sweet and well lit for all. We are into the new Samvat and here is the first birthday.

We all know this birthday boy as a winner of 14 filmfare awards. He has a significant fan following in Asia and among the Indian Diasporas across the globe. He is one who dared to pick villainous roles early on in his career –something like say Vinod Khanna or Shatrughan Sinha of the previous generation. He is the pet of the film maker who is considered the king of romantic films in the current era. His paternal grandfather was a Pathan and the family moved to India post 1948. He grew up in Delhi and was educated from schools and colleges there but his road to fame and fortune began when he joined the Theatre Action Group and was mentored by Barry John. Oh yes I am speaking of Badshah alias Raj (naam toh suna hoga?) alias Rahul alias Shahrukh Kkkkhan –like the way he said KKKKiran in one of his early movies.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

I thought of putting down a few thoughts; that came to me in the last few days; on record. For one who is constantly Bangalore- Bashing as regards to the infrastructure etc, I must admit that it has given me a few PLUSes. I have been able to go for a few musical shows at some of the lovely Halls that Bangalore has. It all began with a show which was titled “Suno Mere Bandho Re” which paid tribute to S.D. Burman to the last one; about which I cannot stop myself from repeating about- where I saw my all time favourite Basanti. This is probably because of the changed working hours of the family members. I have found a little more free time here than in the period when I was a Mumbai-mother. Again the free time could be due to that fact that I go out very little on Social visits. So all things put together I find at least an hour or two to sit at my Desktop and read, listen to songs etc. This has also been the cause of my associating with the blog and getting to know a whole new set of Human Beings who have interests similar to mine. Of course for this I should whole heartedly Thank my daughter who stumbled on the blog.

I grew up in a small town where everybody knew everybody and also knew each other’s ‘kartoots’. I was young enough not to understand some conversations of grownups. On one occasion when I was at a fruit sellers shop, with my father, a prominent person came to buy mangoes. It was beginning of the mango season and they were very dear. The shop keeper asked him “Sir, is it for house no. 1 or for house no. 2?” I looked at my father and he warded off my questioning look and started examining mangoes on the rack.

Hullo atulites

I just returned from work and saw that we have a post for remembering Jaidev on his death anniversary. But none to wish the AR Rahman on his birthday today. So I thought let me do my bit. So here is a song from the 1992 “Roja” starring Madhu, Arvind Swamy, Pankaj Kapoor etc. This I had seen when my son was a little boy in arms and we were living in this tiny township in Tamil Nadu. The waterfall shown in the movie is in hills that were right behind our mill colony there. And I have visited it a few times in my 5 year stay there. Also today happens to be my son’s 25th birthday. All together a day of nostalgia. So I think this song fits the occasion as far as I am concerned.

“Khel” (1992) was inspired from the English movie “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”. This movie was directed by Rakesh Roshan for Producer R A Singh’s Shiv Shakti Films. The movie had Mala Sinha, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, Sonu Walia, Bharathi(south), Prem Chopra, Sujit Kumar, Dinesh Hingoo, Mac Mohan, Shashi Kiran, Satyen Kappu, Aparajita, Alok Nath, Satish Kaul, Yunus Parwez, Vijayendra Ghatge, Kamal Deep, Bharat Kapoor, Vivek Vaswani, Rakesh Roshan, H.L.Pardesi etc in it.

I start this article with a confession that Hindi film songs of post-1980 period, by and large, are not on my search radar unless I come across some of them by chance. It was one of such chances that took me to a song ‘rooth ke hamse kahin jab chale jaaoge tum’ from the film JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDAR (1992). I was attracted by its first line of lyrics. The song was written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and that made me to watch the video clip. And what a sentimental song relating to brother-brother relationship! As I watched the video clip, some reminiscences of my childhood days flashed before my moist eyes like a slide show.

Bollywood songs of 1990s and onwards do not quite strike the same chord with me as the songs of earlier decades do. But there are some songs of even 1990s onwards that are just wonderful to listen to.
