Hullo Atuldom

Wishing everyone a Very Very Happy Holi!!! Let there be lots of colour & laughter all around.

Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan; born 14 March 1965, is an Indian actor, filmmaker, and television personality who works in Hindi films. Referred to as “Mr. Perfectionist” in the media, he is known for his work in a variety of film genres, particularly in films which raise social issues like education and gender equality, or which have a positive impact on society in India or abroad. Through his career spanning over 40 years (he has been around from 1984), Khan has established himself as one of the most notable actors of Indian cinema.

He first appeared on screen as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain’s film “Yaadon Ki Baaraat” (1973). As an adult, his first feature film role was in “Holi” (1984). He began a full-time acting career with a leading role in “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” (1988).

I can see the readers’ eyes lighting up “Oh! this post is about Aamir Khan”. He was born to Tahir Hussain & Zeenat Hussain. He has an younger brother (Faisal Khan, also an actor) and two sisters (Farhat & Nikhat Khan). Nasir Hussain was Aamir Khan’s father -Tahir Hussain’s older brother. Aamir Khan’s first leading role was in “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” which was produced by Nasir Hussain & directed by his son Mansoor Khan.

Aamir Khan’s family has roots from Herat in Afghanistan; Khan’s paternal grandfather was a school teacher with a Pashtun zamindar background while his paternal grandmother was an Arab; tracing her roots to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and she was also a niece of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. So that makes the activist of the Indian Independence movement & India’s first Minister of Education ‘Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’ Aamir Khan’s Great Grand Uncle.

Recently, in 2024, Aamir’s son Junaid (from his marriage to Reena Dutta) made his acting debut in a period drama film ‘Maharaj’. Aamir also has a daughter from the first marriage. From his marriage to Kiran Rao he has a son.
Aamir Khan is famous for not attending award functions; but is a winner of 9 Filmfare Awards, out of 32 nominations, including the Best Actor award for ‘Raja Hindustani’ (1996), ‘Lagaan’ (2001), and ‘Dangal’ (2016); the Best Actor (Critics) award for ‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006); the Best Film award for ‘Lagaan’, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ (2007), and ‘Dangal’; and the Best Director award for ‘Taare Zameen Par’ He has won four National Film Awards: as an actor in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ (1988) and ‘Raakh’ (1989), as producer of ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Madness in the Desert’ (2004), and as director and producer of ‘Taare Zameen Par’.
‘Lagaan’ earned an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards in 2002.

He is known to be very choosy about the type of films he is associated with; and has been seen in some commercial (masala) films which have good content like ‘Ghajini’, ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin’, ‘Fanaa’ etc. He has been a co-actor to almost all the heroes of the late 80s; but film-fans are yet to see Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan together in a film.

Today on the occasion of the actor turning 60 we are having a song from the 1999 film “Sarfarosh” which was an action thriller film written, produced and directed by John Matthew Matthan. The film, based on true events regarding state-sponsored terrorism taking place in India during 1990s, starred Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan and Sonali Bendre, alongside Mukesh Rishi, Pradeep Rawat, Akhilendra Mishra, Makrand Deshpande, Shri Vallabh Vyas, Govind Namdev and Surekha Sikri. The soundtrack and musical score were composed by Jatin–Lalit and Sanjoy Chowdhury (son of legendary Salil Chowdhury giving the background score). Lyrics are penned by Israr Ansari, Nida Fazli, Sameer and Indeevar.

Vocals for Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan and Sonali Bendre were supplied by Jagjit Singh, Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik, respectively. The album also features the vocals of Kavita Krishnamurthy, Roop Kumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam.
‘Sarfarosh’ revolves around an IPS officer’s quest to eradicate cross-border terrorism. Arms-trafficking also was woven into the plot. The film also touched upon how experiences during the Partition of India effected the mindset of those who were in the eye of the turmoil of those days. It spoke of how the actions of some people, who are still scathing from the aftermath of the partition, are not benefiting any people of any religion.

The film released just before the Kargil conflict when tensions between India and Pakistan were high (the was broke out just days after the film’s release). The film became commercially successful at the box office. The movie received praise for its cast performances, technical aspects, action sequences, music and script. The film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film, and was screened at the International Film Festival of India.

I was helped by Peevesie’s Bhabhi in selecting the song for this post (thanks for helping me with song selection). I asked her to think of an Aamir Khan song she likes and she mentioned a song featuring Sonali Bendre & Aamir Khan. (I am yet to ask her why she likes it).

In the film the song begins at a picnic, when the pair are still college students & the complications of life are yet to set in. Part of the song has Sonali fantasizing/ day-dreaming. The song is sung by Alka Yagnik and Aamir has himself given the voice for the words he utters.

(I don’t know if this was the song that Peevesie’s Bhabhi had in mind)

Wishing Aamir Khan all the best for his future on his 60th birthday.

Song-Is deewaane ladke ko koi samjhaaye (Sarfarosh)(1999) Singers-Alka Yagnik, Aamir Khan, Lyrics-Sameer, MD-Jatin Lalit

Lyrics

Is deewane ladke ko koi samjhaaye
pyaar mohabbat se na jaane kyun ye ghabraaye
is deewaane ladke ko koi samjhaaye
pyaar mohabbat se na jaane kyun ye ghabraaye
dard-e-dil
jaane naa
paas main jitna aaun
utnee door ye jaaye
jaaye
haan jaaye
is deewaane ladke ko koi samjhaaye
pyaar mohabbat se na jaane kyun ye ghabraaye

rang na dekhe
roop na dekhe
ye jawaanee kee dhoop na dekhe
arz hai
kuchh majnu bane
kuchh raanjha bane
kuchh romeo
kuchh farhad huye
is rang roop ki chaahat mein
jaane kitne barbaad huye
vo dekho

ishq main iske baawree hoon main
ye bhala hai to kya buree hoon main
ye ladka
hai phir bhee
jaane kyun sharmaaye
jaane kyun sharmaaye
haay sharmaaye
is deewane ladke ko koi samjhaaye
pyar mohabbat se na jaane kyun ye ghabraaye

jaantee hoon main
ye tadapta hai
pyaar mein iska
dil dhadakta hai
jise dekho dil ki dhoonee ramaata hai
are ye mandir naheen hai
shivaala naheen hai
haseenon se keh do kaheen aur jaayen
mera dil hai dil
dharamshaala naheen hai

ye akele mein
aah bharta hai
phir bhi kehne se ye kyun darta hai
sach kuchh bhee
bole na
jhoothhee baat banaaye
jhoothhee baat banaaye
haan banaaye
is deewaane ladke ko koi samjhaaye
pyaar muhabbat se na jaane
kyun ye ghabraye
dard-e-dil
jaane na
paas main jitna aaun
utnee door ye jaaye
jaaye
haan jaaye
is diwane ladke ko, koi samjhaye
pyaar mohabbat se na jaane
kyun ye ghabraaye

phool khilte hain
bahaaron ka samaa hota hai
aise mausam mein hee to
pyaar jawaan hota hai
dil ki baaton ko
honthon se naheen kehte
ye fasaana to
nigaahon se bayaan hota hai
