Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 14
Continuing my series, I come to the 14th song – “Reshma Mera Naam Hai” sung by the ever versatile Asha Bhosle. This song is penned and composed by Ravindra Jain for the movie Toofan released in 1975.
It was directed by Kedar Kapoor for ‘Sargam Pictures (Pvt.) Ltd., Bombay’. The movie had Vikram Makandar, Priyadarshini, Roopesh Kumar, Jagdeep, B.M. Vyas, Jeevan, Jayraj, Trilok Kapoor, Sajjan, Rajan Haksar, Abhijit Sen, Rajan Kapoor, Kirti Kumar, Shetty, V. Gopal, Shriram, Ramlal, Vijay Khanna, Urmila Bhatt, Praveen Pal, Meena T., Bhanumati, Sujata and others.
Toofan tells the story of twin brothers separated at birth, each raised in vastly different circumstances. One grows up to become a magician, mastering the art of illusion, while the other becomes a superhero, driven by a sense of justice.
Unaware of each other’s existence, both brothers embark on separate quests to avenge the injustices inflicted upon their respective fathers. Their paths eventually cross, leading to a powerful confrontation and a revelation of their shared past.
Toofan tries to make a unique blend of superhero elements and traditional Bollywood storytelling, offering audiences an engaging tale of destiny, identity and justice.
Today’s song “Reshma Mera Naam Hai” is a lively dance number that encapsulates the spirited essence of Bollywood music from that era. This track stands out for its catchy rhythm and empowering lyrics.
The song is lip synced and danced upon by Priyadarshini. We can also see Roopesh Kumar, Rajender Nath and the hero of the movie Vikram Makandar.
