Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2 –post-3 (1981)

(Celebrating Pancham’s 86th Birth Anniversary 27.06.2025 – 1)
——————————————————————————————————

Today 27th June 2025 is the eighty-sixth birth anniversary of the genius music director Rahul Dev Burman. He was born on 27th June 1939 and he passed away on 4th January 1994. Today on his birth anniversary we pay our tributes to R.D. Burman on this blog by covering some songs composed by him. Keep watching this blog throughout the day and attend the musical offerings the whole day culminating into an entertaining rocking party by late evening. 😊

I have mentioned it in in one of my posts on Pancham that I have been listening regularly to songs composed by him on radio or on internet while commuting to & from workplace. It is an enjoyable experience to listen to the songs composed by Pancham as many songs composed by him are my favourites. When I listen to his known songs again that I had not listened to attentively add new dimensions to my listening experience. It could be because I was not able to fully understand the nuances of his music and I was not able to appreciate the music created by him through unconventional ‘instruments’. Revisiting these songs and their foot-tapping music often motivates me and fills me with renewed energy. It is altogether a pleasant and energetic experience listening to the same songs now.

The song being presented with this post is one such nice hummable entertaining song.

I would like to mention that today (from my side) I will be going through Pancham’s journey in film industry e.g. his entry, his highs and lows, the year of ‘Sholay’ (also called as the film of the ‘millennium’), the end of seventies, early eighties when people started deserting him-though he keep creating good music, his personal life and incidents therein, his health issues, and his fight back- the comeback before the goodbye.

In these posts we will not go through what has already been written about R.D. Burman and that is available in plenty of ways in all types of media.Facts or names associated with his life incidences will not be covered either, except covering his collaboration with Gulzar Saab – the relationship that was all including friendly, professional, personal and more than that.

Let us start the day with this rocking introduction song imagining the entry of the ‘Prince of the Music’ on the screen of Hindi Film History in ‘1961’ with the movie ‘Chhote Nawaab’.

In this post we have a song sung by Kishore Kumar from the movie ‘Jail Yaatraa-1981’. Vinod Khanna lip-syncs the song and we can see many others present in the picturization of this song.

‘Jail Yaatraa-1981’ was directed by Bhappi Sonie for ‘Kala Niketan, Bombay’. Vijay Maria & Praveen Bali were the producers of this movie, and it was passed by Censor Board on 07.09.981. Story and Screenplay was written by Sachin Bhaumick while Dialogues of this movie were written by Kader Khan. Editing of this movie was done by M.S. Shinde.

The cast of this movie has Ashok Kumar, Vinod Khanna, Reena Roy, and Amjad Khan. They were supported by Anwar Hussain, Aashu, Heena Kausar, Shivraj, Jyoti Bakshi, Jayshree T., Anajana, Shetty, Dhoomal, Rajan Kapoor, Beena, Abimanyu Sharma, Brahm Bharadwaj, Katy Mirza, Birbal, Jugnu, Manhar Desai, Keerti Kumar, Madhup Sharma, Rishi Raj, Keshav Rana, Mushtaq Merchant, Gurbachan, Vandana Shastri, Amarjeet and others. ‘Jail Yaatraa-1981’ has five songs composed by R.D. Burman. The lyrics for all the five songs were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Singers for this movie’s songs are Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Bhupinder Singh, and Lata Mangeshkar. As mentioned above today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar.

here comes the ‘shahzaadaa’ of music …sangeet kee duniyaa mein apnaa hain raaj, hai naa jee
