Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2 –post-9 (1982)
Today 3rd July 2025 is the seventy-third birthday of Singer Amit Kumar (born on 3rd July 1952). On this occasion we will be listening to a song sung by him and composed by the music director, with whom Amit Kumar sung the highest number of songs i.e. Rahul Dev Burman.
This song is from the movie ‘Teri Qasam-1982’ which was directed by A.C. Trilokchander for ‘Navjeevan Productions, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 25.05.1982. Titu was the producer of this movie. It had Kumar Gaurav, Poonam Dhillon, Girish Karnad, Ranjeeta, Nirupa Roy, Monty, Paintal, Jyoti Bakshi, Neelu Arora, Najma, Rakesh Bedi, Mushtaq Merchant, Kanti, Manmouji, Birbal, S.P. Chaturvedi, Dinkar Chaudhary, Meghdoot, Bhola, Shivraj, Babli, Gauri Verma, Raj Bachchan and others. This movie introduced Shiv Kapoor. Padmini Kapila and Mukul Agrawal made special appearances in this movie while music director Laxmikant had a guest appearance in this movie.
This movie had six songs written by Anand Bakshi and composed by R.D. Burman. So far three songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. Today’s song will be the fourth song from this movie to be posted here.
After the successful movie ‘Love Story-1981’ I had watched this Kumar Gaurav movie at Akola. I have no recollection of this movie ‘Teree Kasam’ now, but the songs from this movie are nice songs that I have not forgotten. The association of Pancham-Amit Kumar and Kumar Gaurav have given us some very nice music to enjoy and savor. This movie is one such movie.
While presenting the first song from this movie ‘Teri Kasam’ on the blog, Atul ji has expressed his opinion why Kumar Gaurav turned to be a failure after his debutant ‘big hit’ movie ‘Love Story’. Though Atul ji has mentioned that the music of this movie was composed by R.D. Burman but ‘he did not enjoy the songs of this movie’ may be because he didn’t like this movie. But I would like to mention here that I liked all the songs of this movie very much. I do not remember if I liked the movie. All the songs from this movie are very good. However, only one song from this movie made it to the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of that year 1982. This song stood at 22nd position and it was ‘ye zameen gaa rahee hai’.
The annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala-1982’ had as many as ten songs composed by R.D. Burman. Out of these songs, three songs also had the voice of R.D. Burman. However, this year too none of the R.D. Burman songs made to the top three ranks in ‘Binaca Geetmala Annual List’. The list of these ten R D Burman compositions is given below.

2) Bolo bolo kuchh to … Poochho na yaar kya huaa – Zamaane Ko Dikhaanaa Hai (1981)

8) Pyar mein dil pe – Mahaan (1983)
9) Jabse tumko dekhaa – Kaaliya (1981)
10) Jahaañ teree yeh nazar hai – Kaaliya (1981)
Only two movies in the above list are from the same year i.e. ‘1982’. They are from ‘Sanam Teri Qasam’ and ‘Teri Qasam’. 😊
Today we are going to listen to the fourth song from this movie which is written by Anand Bakshi. Kumar Gaurav playing the role of singer Tony lip syncs the song. Poonam Dhillon (as Dolly who is the love interest of Tony), Paintal and Rakesh Bedi (who played the friends of Tony) and the villain Monty are also visible in the picturisation. Monty (as Monty) has a plan to kill Tony during this performance. What happens next will form a part of another post. If possible, we will discuss the story of this movie too, in yet another post.
