‘Poonam’ (1981), was directed by Harmesh Malhotra and starred Raj Babbar, Poonam Dhillon, Shakti Kapoor, Madan Puri, Pinchoo Kapoor, Kalpana Iyer, etc.
Three songs from this movie have already been posted. This will be the fourth out of seven songs.
The story of Poonam is:
The film revolves around Poonam (Poonam Dhillon), a young, beautiful, and innocent village girl who lives a peaceful life with her family in a close-knit rural setting. Her charm and simplicity make her beloved by everyone around her.
Dr. Ramesh (Raj Babbar), a city-bred, idealistic and compassionate doctor, is posted in the village as part of a medical outreach program. He is dedicated to serving the poor and underprivileged and soon wins the hearts of the villagers with his kindness and selflessness. During his stay, he meets Poonam, and they gradually fall in love, drawn to each other’s simplicity and values.
However, their budding romance faces opposition due to social and class differences. Ramesh comes from an affluent, urban family, while Poonam is a modest village girl. Ramesh’s father (played by Shreeram Lagoo), a proud and status-conscious man, disapproves of the match, hoping to marry his son into a wealthy and influential family.
As the emotional conflict deepens, Poonam must navigate the challenges of love, societal expectations, and familial pressures. The story takes an emotional turn as Ramesh finds himself torn between his love for Poonam and his loyalty to his family.
The film is rich in emotional drama, exploring themes of true love, sacrifice, class divides, and the eternal struggle between heart and duty. The climax hinges on whether love can overcome the rigid barriers of society and if Ramesh and Poonam can ultimately unite.
“Aa Hum Bhi Jawan Hai Sanam” is sung by Dilraj Kaur & Bhupender Singh. The song is written by Anjaan and composed by Anu Malik.
On screen it is Kalpana Iyer lip syncing in Dilraj Kaur’s voice, and later on Raj Babbar lip syncs in Bhupinder Singh’s voice.

Lyrics:
aa aa aa
hum bhee jawaan hain sanam
dil bhee jawaan hai sanam
kaise mohabbat na hogee
aa aa aa
hum bhee jawaan hain sanam
dil bhee jawaan hai sanam
kaise mohabbat na hogee ee
aa aa
hum bhee jawaan hain sanam
dil bhee jawaan hai sanam
kaise mohabbat na hogee
ho o o
mehboob aisa
jab saamne ho
jawaan dil se kaise
sharaarat na hogee ee ee
aa aa
hum bhee jawaan hain sanam
dil bhee jawaan hai sanam
kaise mohabbat na hogee
dil aayega aana hai jahaan
ho o roke rukega jaan-e-jaan aan aan
yeh ae hota raha hai yahaan
ho o yeh hota rahega yahaan aan aan aan
aaa dekhenge hum bhee kabhee
dil pe hamaare teree
kaise inaayat na hogee ee
aa aa
hum bhee jawaan hain sanam
dil bhee jawaan hai sanam
kaise mohabbat na hogee
mohabbat kee baaton mein
kuchch dum naheen hai
mohabbat qayaamat se
kuchch kam naheen hai
maseeha naheen hai
koi dard-e-dil ka
mohabbat se badh ke
koi gham naheen hai
jo o hona thha woh ho gaya
hey woh ranjh-o-gham bhool jaa aa aa
dil
dil kisee se laga
woh hai pyaar gham ki dawa
aaa
de de mujhe dil ke gham
phir tere dil pe sanam
aisi qayaamat na hogee ee
aa aa
hum bhee jawan hain sanam
dil bhee jawaan hai sanam
kaise mohabbat na hogee
mohabbat hai dhokha
dagha aashnaayee
wafa ka sila hai
yahaan bewafaayee
yahaan boojhe kyun hum
sanam ??
ibaadat mohabbat kee kab raas aayee
aa aa
na bewafa hain sabhee
aa mere dil mein kabhee
phir yeh shikaayat na hogee
aa aa
hum bhee jawaan hain sanam
dil bhee jawaan hai sanam
kaise mohabbat na hogee
ho o
mehboob aisa
jab saamne ho
jawaan dil se kaise
sharaarat na hogee ee
aa aa
hum bhee jawaan hain sanam
dil bhee jawaan hai sanam
kaise mohabbat na hogee
