“Dafaa 302-1975” was directed by Chand for Fine Art Pictures, Bombay. It was produced by B. Gupta who had also done the photography of this movie. The title referred to India Penal Code Section 302 (section of murder)’. Chand who directed this movie wrote the story of this movie. This was a ‘रहस्य-प्रधान’ or suspense thriller movie.
The online version of this movie has the censor certificate with date of its passing by the board mentioned as 4th May of 1972. However as per Geet Kosh this movie was passed by censor board on 24.02.1975. Elsewhere also the year of this movie is mentioned as 1975. This movie has thus completed its 50 years.
Regulars ofthe blog are aware that we have been celebrating the completion of 50 years of movies since the beginning of this decade 2021-2030.In very year of this decade we take up the missing movies of the year that had completed 50 years.
We are in the year 2025 so we are taking up movies of 1975 in this year.
1975 was a memorable year for the Hindi film industry. This year is remembered for some milestone movies of Hindi cinema like ‘Sholay’, ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’, ‘Deewaar’ etc. Movies like ‘Geet Gaataa Chal’, ‘Julie’, ‘Mausam’, ‘Chhotisi Baat’, ‘Rafoo Chakkar’, ‘Sanyaasi’, and ‘Pratigyaa’ were the other top successful movies of that year.
1975 was an important year in the history of Independent India as well. It was in this year that emergency was imposed in India. However I have no specific recollections vis a vis emergency. I was a child just above seven years old and my memories of those days were limited to movies and their songs.
I have fond memories of watching movies like ‘Sholay’, ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’, ‘Rafoo Chakkar’, ‘Sanyaasi’, ‘Dharam Karam’, ‘Do Jaasoos’, ‘Do Jhoothh’, ‘Himaalaya Se Oonchaa’, ‘Raftaar’, in theatre during the year 1975. I still remember watching these movies either with parents or cousins in the theatre. I even remember movies of 1975 that I did not get to watch but they became unforgettable because of their songs that got played on loudspeakers and radio all the time. ‘Geet Gaataa Chal’ is a case in point. I watched this movie much later on TV.
As far as the movie under discussion is concerned, I was neither aware of this movie not its songs in 1975. But when I browsed through its songs recently I found a couple of songs thatappeared familiar to me. In this process I also watched some part of this movie. Since this movie is a suspense thriller movie so throwing more light on this movie will be kept in abeyance for now and will be dealt with in future posts while covering other songs from this movie.
Since this movie didn’t fare well at the box office so its’ songs too remained lesser heard. The two songs (the song under discussion and the one I presented earlier) are good songs according to me and I found them enjoyable while listening to these songs and watching their video.
The cast of this movie included Randheer Kapoor, Rekha, Premnath, Aruna Irani, and Roopesh Kumar, with Jairaj, Poornima, Faryal, Madan Puri, Asit Sen, Chandrashekhar, Namrata, Mohan Choti, Jagirdar, Coco Cola, Bindu, Maruti, Murad, Jagdish Raj, Kirti Behl, Bhalla, Dinanath, Randheer and others. Ashok Kumar and Ajit had friendly appearances in this movie.
Editing is done by P.S. Wagle. Lyrics are by Indeevar and music is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Playback singers for this movie are Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey and Suman Kalyanpur.
One song from this movie ‘Dafaa-302’ has been posted on the blog in the past. Today I am presenting the second song from this movie which is a ‘Qawwaalee’ song and that is my favorite category of songs.
Aruna Irani and Premnath lip sync the song. Roopesh Kumar and many others are also present in the picturisation of this song.
Qawwaalees of movies of 1970s tended to be muqaablaa qawwaalees, between two parties, such as rivals or rival gangs. Then there were ‘husn aur ishq’ qawwaalees, or ‘qawwaalees’ in ‘villain’s den’ where the ‘good’ would be challenging the ‘evil’ and threatening him of dire consequences. 🙂 A Qawwaalee in the second half of the movie would often be a signal of the movie reaching its climax. :). The qawwaalee under discussion falls under that set pattern as it marks the beginning of the climax of the movie.:)
Let us enjoy this song which is penned by Indeevar and composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Manna Dey and Suman Kalyanpur are the singers.
Enjoy.
