Today’s song is from the movie ‘Krishna Sudaamaa-1979’. It was directed by Kedar Nath Agrawal for ‘Sangeeta Productions, Bombay’.
‘Krishna Sudaamaa-1979’ was a mythological movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 07.08.1979. This same movie was then again submitted to the censdor boaard after adding three more songs. And this version titled as ‘Krishna Bhakt Sudaamaa’ was passed by the Censor Board on 26.11.1980.
The older version of this movie has eight songs whereas the new version has eleven songs.
‘Krishna Sudaamaa-1979’ has Bharat Bhooshan, Bani Kumar, Master Rajesh, Master Sushobhan, Master Ravi, Amar Nath, Roopak Muzumdar, Bibhuti Mukherjee, Manik Dutt, Jairaj, Geeta Dey, Asha Sharma, Raj Rani, Kumud Bole, Madhu Gaur, Tapti Bannerjee, Polin Chatterjee, Bharati Devi, Sumita Vishwas, Seema, and others. Anand Marathe had a special appearance in this movie.

‘Krishna Sudaamaa-1979’ has eight songs which were all written by Kavi Pradeep and music was composed by Neeta Sen. The singer for this movie included Usha Mangeshkar, Aarti Mukherjee, Anuradha, Bhupinder Singh, and Gautam. Singers Asha Bhonsle and Mahendra Kapoor were the singers for the three additional songs added to the ‘1980’ version.
As mentioned above the music composer for this movie was Neeta Sen. She has already made a debut on this blog with the movie ‘Baba Taaraknaath-1980’. It was the movie with the same title in Bengali in the year ‘1977’ that gave Neeta Sen her first break, as well as fame and commercial success. Her name became famous as music composer of repute in the Bengali film industry. ‘Baabaa Taaraknaath-1977’ in Bengali was a huge hit and its music composed by Neeta Sen became hit too. We had already posted one song from the Hindi version of this movie here on the blog recently.
Neeta Sen was one of three women music directors who achieved significant success in the Bengali films and non-film music. The other two are Ashima Mukherjee and Bansari Lahiri. These three are known as woman music directors of repute in Bangla film Industry.
Born in 1935, Neeta Sen was a trained (in Indian classical music) classical vocalist and a music director from Calcutta (nowadays Kolkata). She was the second child of parents Jagdish Bardhan and Abha Bardhan. They were three sisters and a brother. Neeta Sen started her initial career with All India Radio where her focus was primarily on Modern Bengali Music. She went on to become an accomplished figure in Bengali music film as well as non-film music. Her notable works in music direction includes ‘Baabaa Taaraknath-1977’, Golap Bou (1977), Nandan (1979, ‘Krishna Bhakt Sudaamaa-1979’(Hindi), Seeta (1980), ‘Sonaar Baanglaa-1982’, ‘Baabaa Loknaath-1994’, ‘Pahari Phool, Rokto Joba, etc. Her song composed for the movie ‘Baabaa Taaraknath’ (Bengali version) became very popular songs. Singers like Asha Bhonsle, Aarti Mukherjee, Hemanta Mukherjee, and Bhupinder Singh have sung under her baton. Neeta Sen was also known as a ‘music teacher’ and many vocalist learned music under her and got trained under her baton. Well-known singers like Sreeradha Bannerjee and Ruprekha Chatterjee got training under her. The famous ‘jaatraa’ actor Bina Dasgupta was also associated with Neeta Sen who composed songs for the ‘jaatraa’. Neeta Sen made her debut in Hindi film music by composing music for the movie ‘Krishna Bhakt Sudaamaa-1979’.
Neeta Sen worked closely with the renowned Bengali lyricist Gouriprasanna Majumdar. When Gouriprasanna Majumdar passed away (in 1986) Neeta Sen founded the ‘Gouriprasanna Smriti Samsad’ to keep his memory alive. Neeta Sen was married to Sunil Sen and they had a daughter and a son. Her granddaughter Rimjhim Sen is in fashion designing and associated with Hindi Film Industry.
Neeta Sen passed away on 01st April 2006, after suffering from colitis cancer. She dedicated herself to work composing devotional songs for ‘television serials’, ‘devotional films’ and ‘devotional music albums’ in the last phase of her life.

In the song, God is being beseeched to send rain as they are suffereing from draught.
Though India gets considerable rain during the monsoon season, but some parts may receive inadequate rainfall as well. There are incidences when some parts were reeling under floods while other parts were suffereing from drought.
Let us pray that all region and parts of our country gets good rainfall and help the farmers get good crops this year. Let the rainfall be in the required quantity- neither less nor excessive as both situations bring misery to the population.
I could not find the video of this song. Th lyrics of this song was noted by me long back and it was lying pending for the write-up. The video of this movie was also not available in the past andh I guess it has becomeavailable now. But I have to watch it, so I can’t say much about the picturisation of this song.
