(Debutant Movie – Mahimaa Shri Raam Ki-1981)
In this post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Mahimaa Shri Raam Ki-1981’ alias ‘Sati Bindumati’.This devotional movie was directed by Satish Kumar for V.B. Enterprises, Madras, and Bombay. R.B. Rahi was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie included Jayshree Gadkar, Abhi Bhattacharya, Mahipal, Manhar Desai, B.M. Vyas, Mohan Choti, Gopi Krishna, Padma Khanna, S.N. Tripathi, Uma Dhawan, Jayshree T., Meena T., Hercules, Jeevan and others. Kanan Kaushal had a special appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 09.01.1981 (Bombay Centre) and it was again passed the Madras Centre of Censor Board on 08.04.1981 (as per information given in Geet Kosh Vol-VI). This movie has five songs written by B.D. Mishra and music for this movie is composed by Govind-Naresh. The singers for this movie are Mohd Rafi, Govind Prasad, Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar, Dilraj Kaur, and Mahendra Kapoor.
This movie ‘Mahimaa Shri Raam Ki’ was initially an un-released movie from the decade of seventies . In Geet Kosh Vol-V (1971-1980) this movie is mentioned under the section of un-released movies.
If one goes through the volumes of Geet Kosh one can notice that there are many films which were not released due to one reason or other. But the songs for them get recorded. Since the films were not released their songs didn’t reach the music lovers, even though they were released on records. Fortunately for us many of these songs are now available on internet. In the past I have presented a few songs from such movies.
I was specially looking for a Raam Bhajan on the occasion of Deepaawalee, and that is how I located this song. Subsequently I noted that this movie was released in 1981. Despite that, the movie ended up as an obscure film and its sonhs too failed to get popular. Audio of these songs area available but videos are not available. There is so lilttle information and so much confusion that some links of this song still mention it as a rare song from an unreleased movie ‘Mahimaa Shri Raam Ki-1977’.
Knowledgeable readers are requested to throw light on this movie and its songs.
Fortunately for us a beautiful devotional song from this movie is available for our listening pleasure. Rafi Saab and Govind Prasad jee are the singers of this song. Lyrics are by B.D. Mishra and music is composed by Govind-Naresh.
