This rare song is from the 1982 movie “Log Kya Kahenge”. It was produced & directed by B R Isharaa and starred Naveen Nischol, Shabana Azmi, Shatrughan Sinha, Sanjeev Kumar, Aruna Irani, etc.
The synopsis & story is:
The film centers on a woman named Roma who is forced into a pre-arranged marriage with a widower. She quickly grows to detest her husband, his son, and the life that has been imposed upon her. Seeking an escape, she begins an extramarital affair with another man.
The situation escalates when her stepson discovers her with her lover. To prevent the stepson from revealing her secret to her husband, Roma tragically kills the boy. As her mental state deteriorates, she ultimately goes on to kill her husband as well, descending into insanity.
The film’s title itself refers to the common societal stigma and “stress-inducing” expectations placed on women in Indian society, particularly concerning marriage and expected behavior.
This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, written by Naqsh Lyallpuri and composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
It is picturized on the lead pair Shabana Azmi and Navin Nischol.
It is a classic romantic duet that beautifully expresses the feelings of two people who feel incomplete without each other. This is in sharp contrast to the film’s dark and dramatic plot of adultery and murder.
