I had thought that Rafi-Lata duets were all posted in the blog. I have looked in the list some years back, trying to find a duet of these two for the Rafi series. Among the old songs of 50’s and 60’s there were none to be found. Only one film in the 60s had a song, which was a mythological movie and the song audio video was very bad. Even then I had saved it but eventually posted that group song from “Kranti” and that was that.
Then out of the blue I saw a duet posted by Sadanand Kamath Sir. Then I realised, that I may not have gone through the whole list, and left the job halfway, losing hope. For once, I gave up too soon.
After the Lata solo from ‘Charas”, youtube has been throwing up Dharmendra-Hema Malini songs, a few of them are not posted. Especially I have a cache of Rafi songs on Dharmendra. I did not need this now, as I want to revive the ARR series and some 90’s songs I want to post.
Their time will also come, as this is now time for this Rafi-Lata duet from “Chaacha Bhateeja” (1977). The composers are Laxmikant-Pyarelal, with their trusted lieutenant Anand Bakshi. Except for the first part of the mukhda, the song lyrics are heavy on slang or tapori words of “mumbaiyya” dialect. Here Hema Malini is asking Dharmendra to pay up for the loss he has caused, by breaking 20 bottles and 30 glasses. Not having seen the movie I don’t know, if she is selling them in that basket which she throws into the sea. Dharmendra has a fishing boat, where Hema Malini accosts him. So naturally he breaks into this song saying, “what if I have broken your glass items, I am planning to make a glass house for you.” That’s sweet of him, but Hema wants none of it, saying she is happy in her “Jhonpda”(hut). The terms “La rakh de”, chal rakh de” and “haan rakh de” mean “pay up”, while “Rokda” is cash.
Moreover, there is a line “tujh ko raam kasam laage jo ek paisa bhi chhode”, meaning no discount, full money to be returned.
It is not an unknown song but somehow remained to unposted. Just my luck. Trust the team of L-P, AB and Rafi-Lata to turn a money dispute situation, Wasuli song in a melody.

kar loongee wasool main
qeemat har cheez kee
kar loongee wasool main
teree zulfon ke liye
le aaoongaaa phool main

le aaoongaaa phool main
ho main tere in baaton mein

tera sheesha ka saamaan
maine toda meree jaan
to kya huaa aa
to o o kya huaa a
tere rehne ke liye main
sheesh mehal banwaaoongaa
sheesh mehal kya karna hai ae
achha hai mera jhonpda
laa rakh de
haan rakh de

Atul ji,
Thank you for finding and including the audio song with extra stanza. The stanza actually has the word wasooli.

Nahm Ji, The background to this song is that Hema Malini owns a small local desi sharab adda/dukan. Dharmendra comes over there and has a fight with some local goondas. This fight causes the destruction of 20 bottles and 30 glasses. So that’s the context of this song.

Thank you for giving the context of the song situation. Dharmendra is chacha and Randhir Kapoor is the Bhatija in the movie, I knew that. I have seen only the odd song.
Female characters owning /running sharab adda was in vogue in movies for some years. The last I saw of it, was in ‘Sagar”.
Thanks and regards.
