‘Amrapali-1945’, a movie of historical genre was directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal for Murli Movietone, Bombay. The cast of this has Prem Adib, Sabita Devi, Jeevan, Arun, Jagdish, Badri Prasad, Sankata Prasad, Gulab, Kabeer and others. This movie has eleven songs written by Kavi Pradeep under the name of Miss Kamal B.A. Music for ‘Amrapli-1945’ was composed by Saraswati Devi.

Geet Kosh Vol-II (1941-1950) mentions the name of the singers for eight songs. Ameerbai Karnataki sang six solo songs. G.M. Durrani and Khan Mastana sang one solo song each. Out of the total eleven songs of the movie, six songs have already been posted on this blog. The first song from this movie to appear on this blog was ‘is duniyaa kee pagdandee par’ and it was posted on 06.02.2015.

Our inhouse cinema encyclopaedia Shree Arunkumar jee has given information about this movie on the blog and I am reproducing that excerpt here:-

“the film story was by Ramchandra Thakur. Actually, this was based on Thakur’s own famous novel Amrapali. The dialogues were by Munshi Dil. The film, made under the banner of Murli Cinetone, was shot entirely in the Andheri studios of Lakshmi productions. The story of Amrapali is a real story, which took place in the times of Gautam Buddha. Although the original novel of Ramchandra Thakur depicted the reality in his book very nicely, the film story was twisted and under the guise of taking ‘Cinematic liberty’, the main events of the story were drastically changed, twisting the history. Comparatively, the film ‘Amrapali’ made later in 1966 was much better. At least it did not change the original story. Amrapali or Ambapalika’s story is mentioned in old Pali language Texts and Buddhist literature.”

Today I am presenting the seventh song from this movie which is in the voice of Ameerbai Karnataki. It is a nice romantic song where a girl is expressing her feelings of falling in love. Lyrics are Kavi Pradeep and music is composed by Saraswati Devi. Let us listen to this eighty years old romantic song. Only audio of the song is available.
