Film “Dil hai ke manta nahi”(1991) was another one of Mahesh Bhat movies, made like a “Chitrahaar”, with ten songs, including one double version song. From what I see in the trivia about this film, it is about adaptations galore. The story is adapted from American film “It happened one night”(1934), which is a tradition of sorts with hindi film right from early 50’s.
A few other Hindi films were also inspired by the same film – “Nadan” (1951), “Chori Chori” (1956), “Nau Do Gyarah” (1957), “Solva Saal”(1958) and “Basant” (1960). Similar plots were used in other Indian films as well – “Chaowa Pawa” (1959) in Bengali, “Chandhrodhayam”(1966) and “Kadhal Rojave” (2000) in Tamil, and “Hudugaata” (2007) in Kannada.
The only song from the movie posted here has the original soundtrack of the song from “Nau do Gyarah” 1957, playing in the background in a scene in a garage, where Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt dance to it, with Aamir khan singing along.
The singers are Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal. Lyrics are written by Sameer and composers are Nadeem-Shravan. There are others songs adopted from folk and western music.
One of those party songs, to express the angst of hero, Raghu Jaitley, a journalist. The story starts with Raghu Jaitley given the job of tracking and covering the story of runaway heiress, Pooja. The editor Boss Tiku Talsania is also present in the party. Actually, the film is all but over, by the time this party song is happening. The runaway heiress is back in town, is now by compulsion accompanying her beau (the Tennis star?) to the party. The same one, she earlier thought herself in love with, and ran away in the first place to be with him.
Misunderstanding and communication gap created by circumstances are between Raghu and Pooja. It is perceived as a bewafayi by Raghu and he sings this song, and not in any mood to hear and understand Pooja’s reply, when she is answering him.
It is a good situational song, a typical composition by Nadeem-Shravan. The story is a musical journey to a happy ending, as the story is adopted from so many preceding movies.
