Blog Day :

6347 Post No. : 19671

This is the title song of Ham dil de chuke sanam(1999), the second musical triumph of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This movie and songs were a runaway hit. I have written as many as 4 posts out of 6 songs posted in the blog.

Song Date of post
Jhonka hawa ka 12 August 2012
Tadap tadap ke is dil se aah nikalti rahi 16 April 2013
Mitti pe kheenchee lakeeren rab ne 27 April 2013
Dheel de dheel de de re bhaiyya 15 January 2016
Chaand chhupa baadal mein sharma ke meri jaan 19 October 2016
Albela sajan aayo ree 25 May 2019

I was glad to see that the title song is not yet posted, and “aankhon ki gustaakhiyan”, is also not posted. So that can be remedied soon. Having written 4 posts for the film already, there is not much remaining, that I could say here.

With 9 songs, this movie is like a live parade of songs. It was a good collection of different mood songs, composed by Ismail Darbar. This was Ismail Darbar’s debut as a music director. A few inspired and adapted songs, but the 90’s decade was the decade of adaptations and copied songs, rehashing of old melodies into new ones.

Album Awards:

1999 – Filmfare Awards – R.D. Burman Award – Ismail Darbar
1999 – National Film Awards – Best Music Direction (Songs) – Ismail Darbar
1999 – Filmfare Awards – Best Background Score – Anjan Biswas
Song Awards:

1999 – IIFA Awards – Best Male Playback Singer – Chand Chhupa Baadal Mein – Udit Narayan
1999 – Filmfare Awards – Best Male Playback Singer – Chand Chhupa Baadal Mein – Udit Narayan
Impressive list of awards to this film’s music team.

Kavita Krishnamoorthy is accompanied by Mohammad Salamat and Dominique Cerejo. Mehboob Kotwal is the lyricist.

This song is filmed on outdoor locations in Europe, France to be specific. It plays in the background as Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai are preparing to go to the Salman Khans show, where Ajay Devgan will fulfill his promise to his wife Aishwarya. He has promised to reunite his wife with her love interest, i.e. Salman Khan. There is a very emphatic scene in the movie, when Ajay Devgan confides to his father, about this plan. The father tries to dissuade him from doing this, as it cannot be done. No one can be this self-less. But Ajay Devgan tells his father that true love is not about happiness of self, but about the eternal happiness of the one you love. He says he cannot bear to see his wife suffering. That is true love indeed.

On the other hand, Salman Khan and his mother played by Helen, are also preparing to meet Aishwarya, as she is coming back to him. But Aishwarya has other ideas, she has decided that she belongs to Ajay Devgan, as his wedded wife. Ajay Devgan has also managed to convince her by his unselfish acts and behavior that no one can love her more than him. This is very convenient, with less hassle. No divorce and remarriage required as Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai are already married. So, no more songs after this title song, only the second part of “Tadap Tadap ke iss dil se” remained to be played in the last scene of reunion of the married couple.

The taxi Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya are travelling in, passes through a tunnel. This reminded me of the longish tunnel on the Samruddhi Mahamarg, travelled recently for the first time. A similar tunnel is seen in “Tanhaai Tanhaai” in “Dil Chahta hai”. That was in Australia, but here we are in Paris, supposed to be in Italy as per the script of the film, a city here and there does not matter really. But I wanted to know more, so searched and found that Paris has a whole network of road and under water tunnels.

Curiosity aroused, I searched the tunnels info about the Samruddhi Mahamarg. Found this confused google:

The Samruddhi Mahamarg has five tunnels, including the longest road tunnel in India at Kasara Ghat. One of these tunnels is an 8 km long twin tunnel, constructed through the Western Ghats.

Number of tunnels: There are five tunnels in total.

Location: One of the key features is the 8 km long twin tunnel at Kasara Ghat, which is the widest and fourth longest road tunnel in India.

Features: Some sources also mention six tunnels in total, possibly counting individual tubes in a twin tunnel as separate structures. However, the most consistent reporting identifies five primary tunnel structures.

What does a tunnel, here or there matters really. Any highway that takes one from place A to place B is a help. The express way is great, for saving time and traffic hassle of travelling through all those small towns and tier II cities.
