“Chor Sipahee” (1977) was directed by Prayag Raj for Producer Shyamsunder Shivdasani. The story was by Pushpa Raj & the screenplay was by K.B. Pathak. The dialogues were written by Prayag Raj himself. The music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal & the lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi .

The movie starred Shashi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi, Durga Khote, Asrani, Aruna Irani, Kader Khan, Ranjeet, Om Shivpuri, Mac Mohan, Narendra Nath, Leena Das, etc

“Chor Sipahee” is a crime-drama about two brothers raised on opposite sides of the law – one becoming a respected police inspector and the other a feared underworld don. Their lives collide when fate reveals their blood relationship, forcing them to confront loyalty, justice, sacrifice, and redemption within a corrupt social system.

Story:

The story begins with Mrs. Khanna, a poor but principled widow, struggling to raise her two young sons. Due to circumstances involving poverty and social injustice, the brothers are separated in childhood.

Raja, the elder son, grows up in harsh surroundings and gradually falls into the criminal underworld.

Shankar, the younger son, is raised with strong moral values and eventually becomes an honest police inspector. Neither brother is aware of their shared past.

Years later, Raja Khanna emerges as a powerful and feared criminal known as Raja Dada, operating smuggling and illegal businesses. Though a criminal, Raja has his own code of honor and often helps the poor.

On the other side of the law is Inspector Shankar Kumar, a disciplined and upright officer determined to clean up the city. Ironically, his toughest assignment is to capture Raja Dada – without knowing they are brothers.

The personal lives of both men become complicated:

Raja is married to Bharti, who is unaware of his criminal identity.

Shankar develops a relationship with Priya, who encourages his dedication to justice.

As Shankar closes in on Raja’s operations, tension builds. Repeated encounters between the two men are marked by mutual respect and rivalry.

The turning point comes when Mrs. Khanna, now elderly and ill, recognizes both men and reveals the shocking truth: Raja and Shankar are brothers.

This revelation deeply affects both:

Shankar is torn between duty and family.

Raja is shaken by guilt and regret, realizing how far he has strayed from his mother’s values.

Determined to redeem himself, Raja decides to dismantle his own criminal empire and expose bigger villains in the system. He assists Shankar secretly, providing crucial information to bring down powerful corrupt figures.

In the climax, Raja confronts the main antagonists. He is mortally wounded while ensuring that justice prevails. Before dying, he clears Shankar’s path and restores his mother’s honor.

Raja dies redeemed in his brother’s arms. Shankar fulfills his duty as a police officer while honoring his brother’s sacrifice. The film ends on a bittersweet note, emphasizing that justice may come at a heavy personal cost, but redemption is always possible.

This is a villain’s den song and is lip synced and performed by Vinod Khanna and Shashi Kapoor. We can also see other actors like Asrani, Ranjeet, Dinesh Hingoo, Leena Das, etc

naadaan hai tu jyaada na bol
apne taraazu mein mujhko na tol

inke aage tere sach ka kya mol

sach se jyaada naheen cheez koi keemtee

kis baat par youn machalta hai tu
kyun is gareebee mein jalta hai tu
kyun is gareebee mein jalta hai tu
masti mein girta sambhalta hai tu
masti mein girta sambhalta hai tu
kyun in andheron mein chalta hai tu
chalta hai tu

haan
lekin andheron mein chamak jaaye rushnee
hum donon mein agar
ho jaaye dostee
chor sipaahee mein
hotee naheen dostee

teree sharaafat hee to daulat teree
laalach ke is marz ne chheen lee

teree to bas thi i naukari
woh bhi tere farz ne chheen li
haan

hotee nahee dostee
ho jaaye dostee
hotee naheen dostee
ho jaaye dostee
