Today I present a roothna-manana song by Mohd. Rafi Saab “Haseen Zulfon Ka Rang De Do” from the 1969 film “Beti”. The song is written by Shakeel Badayuni and composed by Sonik Omi.

“Beti” (1969) was a K P S Films Production. It was produced by K P S Singh and N P singh and directed by Harmesh Malhotra.

The movie had Sanjay Khan, Nanda, Rajendra Nath, Asit Sen, Madhumati, Shyama ,Sulochana Latkar, Kamini Kaushal, Raj Mehra, Kishore Sahu, Dulari, Jankidass, etc in it.

This movie had eight songs in it and four songs have been posted in the blog. So this then becomes the fifth song to be featured here.

Beti tells the story of a devoted father and his deep affection for his daughter, highlighting the societal pressures and moral dilemmas that arise as she grows up. The film examines the emotional bond between parent and child, particularly focusing on the father’s protective instincts and the daughter’s journey toward adulthood.

Story in detail:

The narrative centers on a middle-class family headed by a principled and caring father who dotes on his young daughter. She grows up in a loving environment, sheltered and cherished. As she matures into a young woman, her beauty and innocence attract attention, bringing with it both opportunities and dangers.

The father, deeply attached to his daughter, becomes increasingly anxious about her future—especially regarding marriage, reputation, and the influence of outsiders. Suitors begin to appear, and while some are genuine, others have questionable intentions. This creates tension, as the father struggles to balance his desire to protect his daughter with the reality that she must eventually lead her own life.

Complications arise when the daughter becomes emotionally involved—either through love or manipulation (depending on the version of the narrative often described)—leading to misunderstandings and distress within the family. The father feels betrayed and fears for her honour, while the daughter faces emotional turmoil and societal judgment.

As the drama unfolds, truths come to light: the sincerity (or deceit) of those around her is revealed, and the daughter’s character is ultimately vindicated. The father comes to terms with the inevitability of change and learns to trust his daughter’s judgment.

The film resolves on a reconciliatory and emotional note. The father and daughter are reunited in understanding, and she is settled—typically through marriage—into a secure and respectable future. The story reinforces traditional values of family unity, trust, and the sanctity of the parent-child relationship.

The song is lip synced by Sanjay Khan who is addressing Nanda, also seen on screen.

Song-Haseen zulfon ka rang de do (Beti)(1969) Singer-Rafi, Lyricist- Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Sonik Omi

Lyrics:

ae haseen ae mahjabeen
roothh kar jaana naheen
haseen zulfon ka rang
de do
jawaan rukh ka nikhaar de do
haseen zulfon ka rang de do
jawaan rukh ka nikhaar de do
kuchh aur tumko
haseen bana doon
agar mujhe ikhtiyaar de do
haseen zulfon ka rang de do

yeh mast aankhein
yeh lab gulaabee
mahaktee sansen
nazar sharabee
yeh mast aankhein
yeh lab gulaabee
mahaktee saansen
nazar sharaabee
mahaktee saansen
nazar sharabee
luta ke mujh par
yeh sab khazaane
mujhe khushee kee bahaar de do
kuchh aur tumko haseen bana doon
agar mujhe ikhtiyaar de do
haseen zulfon ka rang de do

yeh naaz-o-andaaz chhod bhee do
na yoon sataao
kareeb aao
yeh naaz-o-andaaz chhod bhee do
na yoon sataao
kareeb aao
na yoon sataao
kareeb aao
tadapte seene pe haath rakh do
dhadakte dil ko karaar de do
kuchh aur tumko haseen bana doon
agar mujhe ikhtiyar de do
haseen zulfon ka rang de do

laga ke kaajal
racha ke mehndee
mere hee gulshan mein aaoge tum
laga ke kaajal
racha ke mehndee
mere hee gulshan mein aaoge tum
mere hee gulshan mein aaoge tum
zara main khud ko bhee ab saja loon
tum apnee baahon ka haar de do
kuchh aur tumko haseen bana doon
agar mujhe ikhtiyaer de do
haseen zulfon ka rang de do
jawaan rukh ka nikhaar de do
khaseen zulfon ka rang de do
