Sometime in early 1980s, I had heard a non-film song, ‘mohe aayee na jag se laaj…..ke ghunghroo toot gaye’ which was rendered by Pankaj Udhas. A completely unexpected departure happened earlier in the day. Very much in the saddle, and very much in the busy prime of his career, Om Puri passed away suddenly. The amount of intensity he packed into his characters, and in his dialogue delivery, it seemed he was going to last forever on the screen. Sixty six years they say. Goodness, it just seems like yesterday that Bhikhu picked up that axe used to cut wood at a cremation ground, and brutally attacked his own sister.
