This song was almost edited out of the movie by its producer Vijay Bhatt who thought that this song, showing Hindu festival of Janmashtami had no place in this movie, but he was convinced by others that Akbar’s wife Jodhabai was a Hindu and so showing this song made sense.

I have already posted a memorable Kishore Kumar song (Mere mehboob qayamat hogi) from this movie called “Mr X in Bombay”(1964). This movie starred Kishore Kumar and Kumkum.
I am not sure what the movie was like, but it seems to me that Mr X, the main character of this movie could become invisible, just like the hero of “Mr India” (1987).

Many of the songs in Bollywood movies are based on folk music. This particular song was based on a folk song from the village of the grandmother of Lata. And in fact Lata herself suggested to C Ramchandra to use this folk music.

This is a lovely song in all respects. The movie is “Phagun” (1958 ) and the song is an O P Nayyar composition sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist.
