Here is a song that is barely known to people like me who actually lived through the era when this movie was released. The reason why this song is unknown are many, for one, this movie, “Talaash” had the misfortune of being released simultaneously with Aradhana. The songs of Talaash, though great in their own right, suffered in comparison with “Aradhana”. Most of the songs from this movie were very nice to listen to, but the problem was, they became forgotten with time.
This particular song is a classical music based song, and ordinary public can be counted upon to keep away from such music. But now, with the benefit of hind sight, and after one listens to the song a few times, this song starts growing on it.

1960s, the golden era of Bollywood filmy songs saw hundreds of memorable songs. They drew from folk music, theatre etc. The lyrics were often shayari.
Here is a song where the lyrics and music was totally drawn from real down to earth life in UP/Bihar. In this song, people gather around a village gawaiyya, and the song being sung talks about what a small bird ( muniya) does to the stuffs of halvayi, bajaj, and panwaadi. The song is accompanied by fast paced music on harmonium and dholak that rises to a crescendo towards the end of the stanzas as well as towards the end of the song.

A very moving tale of an Afghani Pathan living in Calcutta, leaving his wife and young daughter behind in Afghanistan. This story was written by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, and I had read it in my Hindi textbook during my school days.
It was the first time I read such a moving tale. I could fully empathise with the feelings of the Afghan towards the young Calcutta girl who reminds him of his daughter.
