Wow! What a song this one is. I have been listening to this song for a long time. In my younger days, when I disliked “old” songs, I still subconsciously felt that this song was special. And now that I have no such dislikings, I find that this song is an incredibly melodious song.

I was aware of a movie called “Naatak” (1974), but there was another movie of this name in 1947. “Naatak” (1947) had a very young Suraiyya in lead role. So she obviously sang her own songs in this movie.

Suraiyya, who ruled the roost as am actor-singer gradually ran out of steam in 1950s. The fact that she would sing only for herself meant that as her demand as an actress fell, she stopped getting singing offers as well.

“Jeet” (1948) was a movie starring Suraiyya and Dev Anand. This movie, which had an idealistic storyline, which was in line with the enthusiasm that Indians felt about the prospects of their newly independent nation.

I associate “Parwaana” (1947) with songs of K L Saigal, though in my younger days, “Parwaana” for me meant a movie of 1971 where Naveen Nischol was the hero and Amitabh Bachchan the villain.

“Vidya” (1948) had Dev Anand and Suraiyya in lead roles. Suraiyya was the leading singing star of that time and she sang her own songs.
