“Naatak” (1975) was produced by C D Shah and Harish Upadhyay and directed by Sohanlal Kanwar for Filmland Production, Bombay. The movie had five songs in it. Four songs have been covered in the past. Here are the details of these four songs:-

Mera rang mera roop…raaja sach bolo main kaisi lagti hoon 14260 11-Apr-18

As can be seen, the movie made its debut as far back as in 2012. That song remained the only song from the movie in the blog till 2018 when the next three songs were covered in the blog.

Here is the fifth and final song from “Naatak”(1975) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Lata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

The song is picturised as a “diversion” song on a very pretty looking Snehlata, who is seen trying to distract a very young looking Subhash Ghai.Yes, this is a song where Subhash Ghai figures as an actor.

I have not watched this movie so I am not fully sure what is the background behind this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

With this song, “Naatak”(1975) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-Jo main chehre se ghoonghat hata doon (Naatak)(1975) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

jo main chehre se ghoonghat hata doon
to chhuriyaan chal jaaye
jo main chehre se ghoonghat hata doon oon
to chhuriyaan chal jaayen
aankhen upar se neeche jhuka doon oon
aankhen upar se neeche jhuka doon
to teer chal jaaye
jo main chehre se ghoonghat hata doon
to chhuriyaan chal jaayen

meri mohabbat meri jawaani
meri mohabbat meri jawaani
in donon ki hai lambi kahaani
meri mohabbat meri jawaani
ye kahaani jo tumko suna doon oon
ye kahaani jo tumko suna doon oon
to raat dhal jaaye
jo main chehre se ghoonghat hata doon oon
to chhuriyaan chal jaayen

nazron pe kitne parde hain naqli
nazron pe kitne parde hain naqli
chehre ke peechhe chehra hai asli
nazron pe kitne parde hain naqli
jo main wo roop tumko dikha doon
jo main wo roop tumko dikha doon
to rang badal jaaye
jo main chehre se ghoonghat hata doon
to chhuriyaan chal jaayen

meri adaayen andaaz mere
meri adaayen andaaz mere
parde mein hain ye sab raaz mere
meri adaayen andaaz mere
jo main ye raaz tumko bata doon oon
jo main ye raaz tumko bata doon oon

Here is the fourth song from “Naatak” (1975) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

This song is picturised on Mausami Chatterji as a “get together party” song. Vijay Arora instruct Mausami Chatterji (or is she Shehlata ?) to appear “ban thhan ke”, viz with make up on, but she appears withut make up, viz by painting her face with black shoe polish apparently. 🙂 Needless to mention, this puts Vijay Arora in an embarrassing position.

The song can be described as a “Raja” song as well, seeing that the word Raja gets used in the song as many as thirteen times. 🙂

Song-Mera rang mera roop…raja sach bolo main kaisi lagti hoon (Naatak)(1975) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

mera rang mera roop
mere gaal mere baal
meri chaal mera haal
zara dekho
o dekho na

tumne jaisa socha thha
kya waisi lagti hoon
tumne jaisa socha thha
kya waisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon

tumne jaisa socha thha
kya waisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
kaisi lagti hoo
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon

mehfil mein jo aayi
ik nazar mein sabke dil mein
mehmaan ho gayi
mehmaan ho gayi
mehfil mein jo aayi
ik nazar mein sabke dil mein
mehmaan ho gayi
mehmaan ho gayi
dekha apna chehra
aaine mein to
khud pe
qurbaan ho gayi
qurbaan ho gayi

mujhko ye maaloom na thha
main kaisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
kaisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
bolo na

mere achche sainyya
tum meri khaatir
thhodi si takleef to karo
takleef to karo
mere achche sainyya
tum meri khaatir
thhodi si takleef to karo
takleef to karo
honthon se nahin to aankhon se kahin
tum meri
taareef to karo
taareef to karo

saare kahte hain
main pariyo jaisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon

tumne jaisa socha thha
kya waisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
raaja sach bolo
main kaisi lagti hoon
sach

Sabse buri sharaab hai (Naatak)(1975) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

sabse buri ee sharaab hai
main hoon buri sharaab se
sabse buri sharaab hai
main hoon buri sharaab se

sabse buri sharaab hai
main hoon buri sharaab se

mere baaare mein
ye khayaal hai janaab ka aa
mere baare mein
ye khayaal hai janaab ka
main ek khila hua
phool hoon gulaab ka
ho lipte huye hain
is kadar
kaante magar gulaab se
sabse buri sharaab hai
main hoon buri sharaab se
sabse buri sharaab hai
main hoon buri sharaab se

wo hai deewaana
jisko bhi mujhse pyaar hai ae
wo hai deewaana
jisko bhi mujhse pyaar hai
tauba hai yaaron
mera koi aitbaar hai
ho kaise suna doon aapko
kisse hai kuchh kharaab se ae
sabse buri sharaab hai ae
main hoon buri sharaab se
sabse buri sharaab hai
main hoon buri sharab se

koi na koi
ilzaam mil jaayega aa
koi na koi
ilzaam mil jaayega
kahin na kahin mera naam mil jaayega
ho padh kar fasaana dekh lo
koi kisi kitaab se
sabse buri sharaab hai
main hoon buri sharaab se
main kyun inhen pasand hoon
poochhe koi is janaab se
sabse buri sharaab hai
main hoon buri sharaab se

Hullo Atuldom

Yesterday (27 march 2018) was World Theatre Day. I learnt about this in the morning yesterday, as I was listening to the Vividh Bharati. Apparently, this was initiated in the year 1961, by The International Theatre Institute. It is celebrated annually on 27thMarch.

We have a number of actors in Bollywood, both past and present, who started their acting career on stage. Many of them never miss an opportunity to go back to act in a play or theatre reading etc. “We cannot forget the immediate response that we get from the audiences” is the most heard sentiment from these actors who keep going back to do theatre. And then, we have had actors who have performed ‘in front of the camera’ as they would perform ‘in front of a live audience’ – remember Sohrab Modi and Prithviraj Kapoor (in some of his initial movies). But the later generation of actors adopted different styles for theatre and movies. Also improved sound systems in theatres must have helped in later years; when one didn’t have to speak in ‘loud booming voices’ so as to be heard in the last rows.

Today with this post I am thinking of Farooque Shaikh who also did a lot of theatre and who would have been 70 on 25th March, just two days back (he passed away in 2013). I also remember Om Puri who was a product of National School of Drama along with Naseeruddin Shah. And yes, how can one forget our dear Shashi Kapoor and his work in bringing theatre to the layman through his Prithvi Theatre also helping many theatre groups in the process by giving a platform to exhibit their art.

Yesterday’s Indian Express (online edition) has an article on how the Twitterati are celebrating the day- http://indianexpress.com/article/trending/trending-globally/what-is-world-theatre-day-twitter-reactions-5112818/. The article begins with Shakespeare’s famous quote from “As You Like It” –

“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts.”

Strangely or coincidentally the song that I zeroed in for also says exactly the same thing. I had thought of it the moment I heard about the ‘World Theatre Day’. Then I sat through looking up articles on the internet and I referred Wikipedia for additional information and in the process landed on what Indian Express site had.

The song is written by a lyricist – Anand Bakshi – whose work I admire because he is one of the poets who puts the common man’s thoughts in poetry format (there are few more lyricists who do that but more on that later). The music is composed by Laxmi-Pyaare and playback is by Asha Bhonsle for Moushumi Chatterjee, whose presence is making Sulochana and Raj Mehra uncomfortable, while Vijay Arora and Nazeema are visibly squirming (would like to know why 😉). Then there is Jayshree T. dancing and Hari Shivdasani enjoying himself. There is also Snehlata (in white saree) who seems to be the happiest among the girls at the party. There are some more familiar faces in the party, which I am unable to name immediately. I request other readers to please help add more names to this video clip.

The film is directed by Sohanlal Kanwar and is one of the movies that has Subhash Ghai in its cast.
