#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
—————————————————————

Today on 24th December 2024 we are celebrating the birth centenary of the legendary singer Mohd Rafi. He was born on 24th December 1924. On this occasion we are presenting songs sung by Mohd Rafi. Initially I was looking for Rafi songs remaining to be posted from the decade of forties i.e. 1941-1950 and I decided that later on I will move simultaneously 50s to 80s. I even had couple of movie-titles noted for this purpose. However it so happened that the songs I presented so far are the songs from movies where Rafi Saab had sung only one song or a movie like ‘Alakh Niranjan’ which have more than one Rafi song, but none of these was posted still on the blog. As the day progressed we saw Rafi songs from the decade of ‘sixties’ and ‘seventies’ have already come up. So I am not sure if I am going to take songs from the 60s, 70s or 80s now.

Today on 24th December 2024 we are celebrating the birth centenary of the legendary singer Mohd Rafi. He was born on 24th December 1924. On this occasion we are presenting songs sung by Mohd Rafi. As I mentioned in my earlier post today I am trying to post Rafi songs starting from the decade of 1941-1950. With this song I move to the decade of 1951-1960. Here is a song from the ‘1957’ movie “Paisaa” which was a movie of social genre. It was directed by Prithviraj Kapoor and it was his home production for ‘Prithvi Theatres, Bombay’.

Today’s song is from a ‘Social’ film Chaar Chaand-1953.

Actually there was nothing ‘Social’ about this film. It was a simple, worn out story of a Raj Kumar and a wicked Vazier (Dewan). They both love the same girl. Additionally, there was an identical pair of sisters too, to add masala to the story.

Today’s song is from the film Shamsheer-1953.

Just 6 years after India’s independence, the Hindi film industry was working normally. Young and enthusiastic directors were trying out their hands at a variety of films. The country was stabilised and it looked with wide eyes at the changes in the world. Italian Neorealism was becoming popular among filmmakers all over the world. There was enough material in India which needed films depicting Neo-Realism, so that the social ills could be rectified.

I have mentioned it several times that after posting the century post in the blog, I heave a huge sigh of relief and start relaxing, secure in the knowledge that the next century post was far far away. But the next century post occasion arrives way earlier (it seems to me) than expected. It demonstrates that posting 100 articles is not such a daunting task if one just avoids DOT days and posts one or two articles in a day.
