“Ahsaas”(1979) was directed by S K Suri for Sippy Films, Bombay. This movie had Dina, Parwez, Rakesh Bedi, Kiran Vairaaale, Sahil, Reetarani Kaul, Chaand Usmani, Leela Mishra, Sundar, Mohan Sherry, Asha Potdar, Arun Desai, Deepak, Raj, Sanjay Kaushik, Ashok junior, K S Deshpande, Dinanath etc. The movie had special appearances by Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Parveen Babi, Simmi, Bindu, Simple Kapadia and Amjad Khan.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 9

We have two movies that qualify to be covered Under the ‘Blog Ten Year challenge 2010-2020’ today (26 february 2020). One is the ‘1958’ movie ‘Chaubees Ghante’ and the other movie is from the ‘Seventies’ i.e. ‘Ahsaas-1979’.
‘Ahsaas’ was released in ‘1979’ that is when I was above eleven years old. Since the movie was released with ‘restricted viewing’ means we had no chance of watching and discussing this movie among out not yet adult friend circle.

Bappi Lahiri is a music director whose name is to this date associated with “Disco” music. He is also regarded as one who hastened the end of the golden era of HFM.
It may sound ironic that when one has to discusses Bappi Lahiri’s better compositions in HFM, one discusses his non disco songs, many of them from his pre disco phase. Even the great compositions of Bappi Lahiri during his “disco” phase were non disco songs. It was not “Disco Dancer” (1982) songs, but non disco songs from “Namak Halal”(1982), “Sharaabi”(1984) and “Aitbaar”(1985) that are fondly remembered to this day.

Kuchh khone ko dil karta hai

Few people today remember this movie called “Ahsaas” (1979). This movie was a quicky movie produced by G P Sippy in the interim period between his two big movies viz. “Sholay” (1975) and “Shaan”(1980). “Ahsaas” (1979) was produced with newcomers with names that no one had heard of. Who were the lead pair in this movie ? Frankly no one seems to recall including me. It was one of those few movies that I had watched first day first show ! And what a disaster of a movie it was. Now others who are into watching first day first show (FDFS), like for instance Santosh Ojha, watch blockbusters like “Trishul”. On the other hand, it is my misfortune to watch dud movies like “Ahsaas” (1979) and “Shalimaar” (1978) in FDFS. Bahut naainsaafi hai.

“Sholay” was the biggest blockbuster hit of Bollywood when it was released in 1975 ? It was produced by G P Sippy.
