“Main Masoom Dil Masoom” by Asha Bhosle is written by Javed Anwar and composed by Usha Khanna. This song is from “Alibaba And Forty Thieves” (1966).
Four out of seven songs have already been posted on the blog. Here’s the fifth song.
“Alibaba And 40 Thieves” (1966) was directed by Homi Wadia for Basant Pictures, Bombay. This movie had Sanjeev Kumar, L Vijayalaxmi, S N Tripathi, Veena, Amarnath B M Vyas, David Abraham, Indira, Tabassum etc in it.

We are celebrating the 79th birthday of Usha Khanna, the only female music director, shall we say with a sizable films and number of songs to her credit. Ameerbai Karnataki is the other female composer I can think of. This field as some technical fields in the film industry has been dominated by males. The reasons for this could be socio-political. As the musicians were mostly men, so it is understandable. Like I said the technical side is dominated by males in this industry. There are very few female director’s also. No cinematographers that I have heard of, recently if someone has entered the fray I don’t know.
Usha Khanna’s career statistics are impressive, better than even major well known music composers. Imdb is listing 141 films from 1959 to 2016, that is five and half decades.

I think it is time to go back to the pavillion, meaning my comfort zone. Or I should say my favourite comfort zone of Rafi songs. I have been ‘ beating about the bush ‘ for the last one year and writing posts of various series. ‘Chandni raaten’ is still going on, as far as I know. Some songs are lined up for it, but I have not been able to find enough enthusiasm to write a post for some time. Mere khayaalon ka tu hi khudaa

I was aware of a movie called “Alibaba Aur chaalis Chor” (1979) which was an Indo-Soviet Union Collaboration. But I was not aware that a movie on the same well known Arabian tale was prooduced in 1966 as well. This movie , titled “Alibaba and forty thieves” was a Basant pictures Production and it was directed by Homi Wadia. The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, L Vijaylaxmi, Veena, Tabassum,David Abraham, B.M.Vyas,Indira Billi, S.N.Tripathi, Kamal Mehra, Kishan Mehta etc in it.
