The movie had Sunil Dutt,Vyjayanthimala, K.N.Singh,Premnath,Keshav Rana,Mridula Rani, Madhvi, Bela Bose, Gajanan Jagirdar, Bipin Gupta, Zul Vellani, Randhir, Sushila(dancer), Salochana(senior)aka Ruby Mayers, Panchotia, Narindernath, Baburao Pendharkar, H.Prakash, Narbada Shankar, Kamal Mohan, Nazir Kashmiri, Kapoor, Dhruv Kumar, Gopal Dutt, Brij Bhushan, Ranbir Raj, Rakesh, Nimbalkar, Krishan Mehta, Ratan Kumar, Awtar Singh etc in it.

Today (6 february 2015) is the 100th birth anniversary of Kavi Pradeep (6 february 1915-11 december 1998). Here is a song from “Amrapaali”(1945) as a tribute to him.

Today, the 13th of August, is the birthday of one of Hindi cinema’s big stars of the 1950s and 60s, Vyjanthimala.
If one were to go by her recorded year of birth as 1936, today is her 77th birthday. While recording this fact, I could not help observing that two other legends of the same period, Waheeda Rehman and Nutan, are also recorded as 1936 born. Somebody up there must have been in a liberal mood in 1936 to decide to send these three to Planet Earth in the same year!

Sometimes when I think back at how my taste in movies and songs has changed since I was a young boy, I can hardly believe that I’m the same person who, way back in the 70s, used to squirm in my seat whenever I’d hear one of those Lata Mangeshkar solos. 😉
