I may think that I know a lot about old Hindi movies and their songs, but I often find myself humbled as I find my knowledge to be quite insignificant and inadequate vis a vis the knowledge possessed by the visitors of this blog. 1963 was a year when Hindi movie music was at its pinnacle. There were countless musical extravanzas that were released that year. Just thinking about the names of the movies boggles the mind. “Marine Drive” (1955) is a B grade movie starring Ajit and Bina Rai. And like all such movies, this movie too had A grade music. The movie and its music may not be very well known today, but the music is wonderful to listen to, if one digs up the songs of this movie.

I have discussed as many as five songs from “Bandi” (1957) in the past. Here is a song from this movie that begins immediately after the opening credits are over. So this song just misses out from becoming a movie opening song.

Here is a song that can be called an iconic song among iconic songs. “Aa jaa ab to aa jaa” from “Anarkali” (1953) is one of the most well known songs in Hindi movie history. It is from “Anarkali” (1953) the original “Anarkali” movie, which came seven years before the other Anarkali movie namely “Mughal e Azam” (1960).
