“Aaina”(1944) was an R D Production movie. This movie was directed by S M Yusuf. The movie had Trilok Kapoor, Husn Bano, Kaushlya, Yakub, Gope etc in it.

Produced by Kuldip Sehgal,under the banner of Kuldip Pictures Ltd;the film was Directed by O.P.Dutta (Father of J P Dutta of ‘Refugee’ fame). The cast of the film was Nalini Jaywant, Karan Dewan, Rehman, Gope, Kuldip Kaur, Raj Mehra etc.

Today is the Death Anniversary of DEV ANAND.
He was one of those who can never be forgotten. He was the most handsome of the three great heroes of India, Raj, Dilip and Dev. Raj and Dilip grew old, did grandpa’s roles and we digested them. But even the thought of seeing Dev Anand as an old Grandfather was highly disturbing. He forever, remained the evergreen chocolate Hero for people of his generation.

Here is another comedy song from the film Nagina-1951, featuring Gope and Mohana at a party hosted by Heeralal.
Nagina was a film made by Dalsukh Pancholi. He was the man who had to run away from Lahore leaving all his empire of film production. Pancholi studio in Lahore was not just a film making place,it was an Institution for budding artistes in varioue faculties like acting, direction and music. Many actors and actresses started their careers here and then flourished in India later. Names that come to mind quickly are of Pran and Omprakash.

This is a comedy song from film NAGINA-51. The singers are Rafi and Shamshad. This was a Nutan- Nasir Khan film.
Sometime back I finished reading Nutan’s Biography, written by her close friend and noted journalist, Lalita Tamhane. The book is titled ‘ ASEN MEE…NASEN MEE ‘ (I may be…I may not be). Many interesting things which are not well known are mentioned in this book. I will try to describe a part of it, from Nutan’s early career, as I remember. I am sure the number of folks would be very few, those who have not heard the iconic song, ‘Mere Piyaa Gaye Rangoon’ . The film Patanaga comes from the year 1949, which is considered as a watershed year in the annals of Hindi film music. So many wonderful movies with great music and great songs were released in this year, that it became a memorable year in terms of rising popularity of film music in India. The film is produced under the banner of Verma Films, Bombay and is directed by the distinguished Harnam Singh Rawail.

Though I subscribe to three newspapers daily, I rarely go through much of their contents and the newspapers finally end up with the “raddiwala” after a few months. But on saturdays I look forward to these newspapers, rather to one column of one newspaper. It is the “Swar panchami” column of Hindi newspaper “Dainik Bhaskar”. There have been two movies called “Sagaai” that I am aware of. The 1951 movie by this name had Premnath, Rehana, Yaaqoob, Gope, VijayLaxmi, Heeralal, Cuckoo etc in lead roles, where as the 1966 movie had Vishwajeet, Rajshree, Rehman, Prem Chopra, Asit Sen, Durga Khote etc in lead roles.
