Today’s song is from the social film Minister-1959.
The 1950s and the early 60s was the period in which the Hindi film industry churned out films which tried to glorify the impractical approaches to real problems, under the guise of Indian traditions. This was in line with what Nehru espoused as Socialism. Unfortunately, it took the Indian public farther from reality and instead of advancing, we went back another two decades. It was only after the war with China in 1962 and demise of Nehru in 1964, the wheels turned the right way slowly after winning the war of 1965 with Pakistan, under the leadership of Shastri ji, India knew and understood what was necessary for the country to progress. After Indira Gandhi took over and implemented certain strong measures, the influence on Indian people changed for the better.

Rafi Sahab’s Legendary Associations – 13

15th August, 2023 – Independence Day
“2023 15 August
As we know, India is going to celebrate 77th Independence Day on 15th August 2023 and this day marks the memory of the end of 200 Year British Rule. On this day, all the religious leaders, political leaders, prominent personalities and Students deliver Independence Day Speech 2023 and pay tribute to freedom fighters.”
This is the result Google showed on searching 15th August, 2023. Fair enough. I thought it to be this way and the sitting diety of the World Wide Web is also correct and succinct. This diety has almost run its course and is in the final leg of its life circle “as a diety”. We have relied on it long enough and it served us best as it could.
So we commemorate India’s 77th Independence Day and pay tribute to freedom fighters, with this song from the film “Minister” (1959). As the title suggests, the movie must have been on politicians.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 64
————————————————————————————–
This date ten years ago (viz 7 July 2012) saw six songs from six different movies getting covered in the blog. Here are the details:-
| Blog post number | Song | Movie (Year) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6189 | Baadal dal se nikal chala | Hamaari Baat(1943) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 6190 | Taqdeer jagaa kar aayi hoon | Dulaari (1949) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 6191 | Hello hello hello mizaaj to huzoor ke hain achche | Minister (1959) | 3 songs covered out of 6 by now |
| 6192 | Ho gaye barbaad hum | Ramman(1954) | 5 songs covered out of 10 by now |
| 6193 | Haal e dil hamaara jaane na bewafaa | Shrimaan Satyawaadi(1960) | Movie YIPPEED by now |

Here is another fun song from the film “Minister”. Two months ago the post another song “Aji Biwi ko ghar pe bitthla ke” from this film appeared in the blog. The song I am discussing now will be the third song from this film. This is a “telephone song” sung by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle. Music is by Madan Mohan and Lyricist is Rajendra Krishan. Unfortunately, I dont recognise the two actors who are lip synching this song. The song is funny enough, just like “mere piyaa gaye rangoon”. Bhagwaan Dada is seen only briefly during the song. Telephone songs have their own appeal as the the singers are required to be on the opposite ends of the line. But in this song, though it starts in a telephone booth and ends there too, the protagonists are singing it with each other and roaming around outdoors.

This time I have found a very rare duet sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mohammed Rafi. It is from the film “Minister”(1959). The song is written by Rajendra Krishan and composed by Madan Mohan. I have not heard or seen this song before. But it is a nice and funny song performed on screen by Tun Tun and Bhagwaan. It is the eternal fight between husbands and wives, which holds good across cultures world wide. Wife accusing husband of being irresponsible and careless and husband complaining that wife is always ready for a fight and doubting the husband at every turn.

I have posted over 100 songs composed by Madan Mohan in this blog. It means that over 10 % of all Madan Mohan songs have been included in this blog. I hope that a time will come when almost all songs of Madan Mohan will be available here. In fact I hope that some day almost all the songs of all the great music directors will be available here.
