This day that year-24 July
————————————–

A few days ago, songs were discussed from movies called 26th January and 25th July. We all know the significance of 26th January. But what is the importance of 25th July ? Reading about the story in the article tells us that unlike 26 January, 25 july was an imaginary movie. It was an imaginary action movie.

Today is 24 July. If a movie called 24 July will ever be made, it will not be an imaginary movie. 24 July is a very important day in the history of India. In my opinion it is as important a day for India as 15 August and 26 January.

This is the second film in succession having a title, beginning with only a number, from which I have discussed songs. Surprisingly, as per the Film Title Index book by Hamraz ji, there are as many as 53 films , whose titles start with numericals, during the period 1931 to 2012. I am not considering film titles starting with “Ek”, because though a number, it is written in words – for example Ek thi Ladki etc. Such films are actually 206 in numbers for the same period. Let us take a look at a few film titles from the lot of 53 films….

Hindi songs in Bangla Films: 27
—————————————–

One of the many Bangla films in which Uttam Kumar paired with Supriya Devi was ‘Bilambita Loy’ (1970). The film was directed by Agragami. The star cast included Uttam Kumar, Supriya Devi, Nirmal Kumar, Deepa Chatterjee, Asit Baran, Tarun Kumar, Bimal Mitra etc. I have watched the film with English sub-titles on an OTT platform.  The film’s English sub-titles are not as good as they ought to be. They are also not properly synchronized with the scenes. Within these limitations, I could make out the story of the film as under:

Hindi Songs in Bangla Films – 1

It is a well-known fact that Shailendra wrote maximum number of songs for the music director, Shankar-Jaikishan (around 365 songs) out of about 750 songs he wrote during his life time. The second in line among music directors was Salil Chowdhury for whom Shailendra wrote around 105 songs. The third place was taken by S D Burman for whom he wrote around 70 songs. There were others music directors for whom he wrote songs albeit in comparatively lesser numbers. They were Roshan, S N Tripathi, Hemant Kumar, Anil Biswas, C Ramchandra, Ravi, Dattaram, and Kishore Kumar.

“25th july” (1951) was indeed the name of a Hindi movie. This movie is so obscure that its details are not available anywhere apart from HFGK. And for the time being I do not have access to HFGK. I will update the details of the movie later.
