Today’s song is from the film Safar-1946. This was a film made by Filmistan, directed by a comparatively new person-Bibhuti Mitra. The lyricist was G S Nepali and composer was C.Ramchandra.
This was C Ramchandra’s first film after joining Filmistan. His friend, Kavi Pradeep, who was close to S Mukherjee of Filmistan, had brought C Ramchandra to this company. Now it was imperative for C Ramchandra to make his first film a musical hit, to establish himself, impress the owners and earn respect.

I was a bit surprised to note that Mohammed Rafi had to struggle for nearly 5 years to establish him as one of the leading male playback singers in Hindi film industry. It is said that he recorded his first song for a Punjabi film as early as 1942. It took him another 2 years to get his first song in a Hindi film ‘Pahele Aap’ (1944), a duet with Shyam thus beginning his long lasting collaboration with Naushad. It took another year for him to get an opportunity to sing his first solo song ‘ae dil-e-nakaam tamanna’ in ‘Hamara Sansaar’ (1945) followed by ‘teraa khilonaa toota baalak’ in ‘Anmol Ghadi’ (1946), the latter one under the baton of Naushad.

My readers may have noticed that I have been discussing lots of songs written by Indeewar these days. My readers (if they are interested in cricket) may also know that world cup cricket is also being played these days. so, to borrow a term from cricket, Raja ( a fellow cricket enthusiast) has also noticed that I am giving Indeewar much of the strike. The idea is to help Indeewar complete his century of songs in this blog.
