“Seeta Aur Geeta”(1972) was released when I was at my most impressionable movie watching stage, though my elders did not share my enthusiasm and believed that kids needed to be shielded from movie watching for their own good. The music of “Seeta Aur Geeta”(1972) was so good that I was dying to watch this movie. My desperate prayers worked and I found myself being taken to the movie hall that was screening this movie. That movie hall was a newly built movie hall (called Sandhya Cinema) and “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972) in fact was the very first movie that was screened in this hall.

“Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972) was a Sippy Films Production. It was produced by G P Sippy and directed by Ramesh Sippy. The movie had Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Pratima Devi, Manorama, Satyen Kappoo, Karan Dewan, Kamal kapoor, Master Alankar Joshi, Ratnamala, Master Ripple, Radhika Rani, Keshav Rana, Mushthaq Merchant, Honey Irani, Roopesh Kumar, Dev Kishen, Ashoo, Asrani, Dulari, Master Ravi, Asit Sen, Harbans Darshan. M. Arora, Abhi Bhattacharya, Suresh, Deepak, M.B.Shetty etc in it.

I sincerely believe that parents should take care of their kids and they should not deprive them of their basic requirements. And what did a kid like me want in 1972 as his basic requirement ? I badly wanted to see “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972). The songs of this movie had such a pied piper like effect that everyone was attracted towards the movie halls screening this movie. My elders too agreed to take me to watch this movie and I was so happy with the prospect of being able to watch the movie and to have the best moment of my life till then.

When I was growing up in a city in 1972, a new movie hall had come up and it was showing “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972). Its song were so wonderful to listen to that I as a pre teen kid dearly wanted to watch the movie. One fine day, I dragged my elders to the movie hall to watch this movie. And what did I see ? The movie was withdrawn the previous day, and the movie “Zindagi Zindagi” (1972) was being shown instead.

I heard this song many a times when this song started playing on loudspeakers and radio in 1972, and then forgot all about it. Now, 35-36 years later, I rediscovered this song again. And only now I have come to know that this song was from Seeta and Geeta. all these days I thought that “Seeta aur Geeta” only had songs sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle.
