When one thinks about a drunkard going past a deserted street at night, then what Mukesh song appropriate to the occasion occurs to one’s mind ? Is it Zindagi khwaab hai (Jaagte Raho) ? This song was picturised on Motilal, who was a distant relative of Mukesh.

It is practically impossible to talk of actors or hit films of Bollywood of the early 70s and not speak of Rajesh Khanna in the same breath. He was synonymous with Bollywood hit movies at that time and though other heroes did manage a few hits between them, he was THE towering figure amongst them all at that time.

When you are young, you only like to listen to “modern” songs and hate listening to old songs calling them boring. Here is a song that was old even by my standards of 1970s when I was growing up. But show me a song that could be more modern than this by now 51 year old song.

There are few actors in Hindi cinema of yesteryear who evoke as much passion in film-lovers as Shammi Kapoor. He came into cinema at a time when pathos ruled and emotional tragedies, a la Devdas, were the order of the day. Although he made an effort to fit in, he was thankfully (for all of us) a miserable failure in his efforts.

When I was growing up in the early 70s, Kishore was easily the dominant male voice in Bollywood. He was everywhere and with every new movie he seemed to only deliver more hits.

Manoj Kumar who played a patriotic Indian named “Bharat” in his movies from late 1960s onwards played a different “Non-Bharat” kind of role in “Beimaan” (1972). Beimaan means Dishonest and Manoj KUmar played the title role in this movie.
