My regular readers may have noticed that I classify my songs based on the place where the song is picturised. Thus we have had car song, rail song, even elephant song, in this blog.

This particular song is a bathroom song by my definition because it is sung in a bathroom. Unlike most bathroom songs which are sung by amateur bathroom singers, this bathroom song is sung by no less a singer than Lata. What is more, this must be one of the sweetest and most melodious songs that Lata must have sung in her career. At least that is what I have always felt about this song.

Rajendra Kumar was known as Dilip Kumar clone, and he was quite a successful one at that too. In fact, Rajendra Kumar was popularly known as “Jubilee” Kumar because most of his movies used to celebrate at least Silver jubilee (25 weeks in a movie hall) and even more.

This song is a very well known song and a song that has the ability to move its listeners. Of course I am talking about the audio. I had not seen the picturisation till now. Now that I have seen the picturuisation, it turns out that the picturisation is quite moving too.

In Bollywood movies of 1960s and 70s, there were certain hit formulas that were adopted by all movie makers without fail. One of the hit formulas was a cabaret song by Helen. I have not counted them, but I am sure there are many such cabaret songs performed by Helen. Quite a few of them have been very popular during their time and some can even be called to have become timeless and evergreen.

“Dil ek Mandir”, regarded as one of the celebrated melancholic movie in Bollywood industry is full of sad songs to match, almost all of which went on to become very popular and in fact evergreen. I have already posted a couple of songs from this movie in this blog. This movie had one nice song after another coming out as if they were coming out of some assembly line.

I am sure when this song first appeared on the air waves, it must have taken everyone by storm. Listening to this audio itself is such a wonderful exhilarating experience, and when one watches the video of the song, the roof has no option but to fall down.

Here is a Mukesh song with a difference. Yes, it is not a sad song. It is a happy song.

This song is from a by now forgotten movie called “Naadaan” (1971) and it was picturised on Navin Nischol. This song was reasonably popular at that time. But as I have repeatedly mentioned, 1971 was the year of bumper crop of outstanding songs, and many nice songs found themselves edged out in popularity stakes. In other less competitive times, the same songs would have fared much better.
