Today’s song is from film Taj Mahal (1941).
In the last few months, I have written articles on films of the early cinema i.e. from the decade of the 1930s. In these articles, I have introduced few unknown or less known heros and heroines of those times, to our readers. Some of these are Vijay Kumar, Ram Singh, Shankar Rao Vazare, Gul Hamid, Prakash and heroines like Menaka, Radha Rani, Meera Mishra, Meera Devi etc. Today also we will learn about yet another less known hero of the silent and early talkie films – Master Khalil Ahmed.

“Taj Mahal” (1963) was directed by M Sadiq for Pushpa Pictures Productions. The movie had Pradeep Kumar (playing Shahjahaan), Bina Rai (playing Mumtaz Mahal), Rehman (playing Jahangir), Veena (playing Noor Jahaan), Jeewan (playing Shaharyar, son of Jahangir and a contender for the crown), Lata Sinha, Balam, Helen, Minoo Mumtaz, Mohan Choti, Sulochana, Sujata, Rajen Haksar, Jabeen Jalil, Murad etc in it.

I have posted over a thousand songs in this blog so far. Most songs are 3 to 4 minutes long and their lyrics are about 200 words long. But this qawwali is nearly ten minutes long and its lyrics runs into 800 words !
