Here is a song that is barely known to people like me who actually lived through the era when this movie was released. The reason why this song is unknown are many, for one, this movie, “Talaash” had the misfortune of being released simultaneously with Aradhana. The songs of Talaash, though great in their own right, suffered in comparison with “Aradhana”. Most of the songs from this movie were very nice to listen to, but the problem was, they became forgotten with time.

This particular song is a classical music based song, and ordinary public can be counted upon to keep away from such music. But now, with the benefit of hind sight, and after one listens to the song a few times, this song starts growing on it.

It is often said that Madan Mohan made the best use of Lata’s voice. And he certainly did so. But what about this song ? The music of this song is by S D Burman. Listen to this song and tell me, has Lata sung any better, and sounded any better, than she does in this song ?

The lyrics of Majrooh are profound- couched in simple words, and just reading the lyrics hardly registers anything in one’s mind, but once Lata gives voice to these lyrics, one is left spellbound. The way her voice move up and down and sideways, like an expert driver driving on topsy turvy terrain, that leaves one wanting for more of this song.
